    I've said this before, but a side benefit for me watching you work out of your garage is the relief I feel in knowing that someone's garage is messier than mine.😉
    More importantly though ... thanks for the thorough tutorial.!

    Late comment but this video was very helpful for me installing my SW sump guard. One change is SW must have redesigned the lower rear mounting bracket. No excess spacing on my copy.

    I've got the Heed bash plate. I got two 5mm spacers that go on the bolts for the rear bracket that attaches to the rear engine mount bolts one spacer per side. If I installed the Heed engine guards I wouldn't have used the spacers. You sure you didn't get spacers with the SW Mototech plate? Don't think you should have that big gap at each side of it. Maybe this is addressed somewhere else in comments.

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey :-)
      Sadly I didn't have any other parts come with the guard, it did seem odd that there was such a gap, and even the instructions didn't show any spacers.

    Nice install, and thank you for taking the time to share it with others. You no doubt have saved everyone some time and guesswork! Much appreciated.
    You mentioned looking up some Aprilia OEM torque specs. Perhaps I missed it, but other than the 4 nm on the bump stops, what torque spec did you use for the other OEM bolts that are not provided by SW Motech? That bit wasn't captured in the video. Thanks for your time!

    Nicely done Pete, I hate spannering in the heat, you did well to get through it with the filming as well.
    I've never seen a bad thing come from SW Motech, and that looks a well meaty guard with excellent, strong mounts.
    I live the same nightmare every oil change, have to get the damn thing off and back on! Need both feet under the guard, both hands holding the loose mounts and then I just have to Jedi mind-control the spanners 🤣

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Someone mentioned using a trolly jack to hold it in place, so may try that if I need to refit it again 🙂

  • @andrewthompson1313
    @andrewthompson1313 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very helpful! I am wondering why SW-Motech doesn't make an alternative mounting bracket that is compatible with the OEM crash bars. A similar bracket except the inside diameter (I.D.) fits over the outside diameter (O.D.) of the OEM crash bar mount. That would appear to provide proper support. Perhaps the issue would be limited ability to make it fit tightly.

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  ปีที่แล้ว

      I also believe that due to how slow Aprilia were to get the crash guards produced, none of the aftermarket companies were able to see how the official engine guards mounted. Still, even with my modification, they both seem to take abuse well 🙂👍

  • @markfortin8286

    Man that looks good. I know all too well about working in the heat. I’m just happy it’s below 100(F) today. Think it’s 98🤣.
    Man everything except 1 item i have got from SW Motech came with instructions in German. Glad they offer instructions on the website. The only thing i have issues with is the center stand for the ‘22 AT. I had to slightly modify it to keep from hitting my swing arm and the springs are very weak. I bought SW-Motech products for my Africa Twin. I've regretted it ever since. Their stuff only works with their own products, whether it be crash protection and bash plate or hard or soft bags. I now recommend to friends and others to find a better option.

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is fair enough. I managed to find a work around to get the sump to work with the Aprilia crash guard, but imagine it would be frustrating to find things not possible to make work. • @iangriffiths9930
      @iangriffiths9930 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The more I think about this the more it’s bugging me, it’s either very poor design by Mo tech or designed to make you buy the crash bars. Surly Mo tech would know the customer who buys this will probably already have crash bars fitted? I know it’s not my bike or my decision but it just seems poor that you have had to modify you oem equipment for aftermarket sump guard?

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@iangriffiths9930 sadly it took Aprilia way too long to get their crash bars out to customers, so for an aftermarket company to know how they were going to design them wouldn't be possible. Also most people have been put off the Aprilia crash bars as they are smaller than the aftermarket options and very expensive. Aprilia accessories are stupid money, the panniers and top box are around £3k+ Even BMW are cheaper!

    It's a right pain in the clack filming those kind of things hey mate most people don't know the struggle 🍻 Good job sticking at it in the heat though looks like a good bit of gear, one less thing to worry about when riding 👌

      Absobloominlutely, super faff filming when you don't have a Biker Chick to help you out! 😁
      It certainly looks a good bit of kit, even if I did have to get the angle grinder out to cut the crash guard 🙂

    What tires did you put on?
    Are they Tubeless or TT?

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Roberto, I got my dealership to fit Motoz Tractionator Adventure tires to the bike before I collected it. They lasted around 4500-5000 miles. I now have Motoz Tractionator RallZ fitted. The bike takes tubeless tires, it doesn't have innertubes.

      I know it's tubeless, but many also ride tires with tubes.

      @@robertorebe7246 you should check out some of my trail ride videos, there are quite a few on my channel with the Tuareg 660, it gets pretty slimy & wet in winter in the UK

    I am considering the Tuareg for a middleweight adventure adventure bike to replace my 2012 R1200GS. Somewhat concerned about quality control and reliability. Any issues you have encountered?

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Paul, I've never owned a BMW to compare it to, and this is my first Aprilia, although I have owned 2 Moto Guzzi bikes (still own one of them) who are from the same company (Piaggio Group), they were perfect for reliability and so far my Tuareg has been spot on, I have given it some abuse too, covering long distance rides on tarmac, camping with it, and trail riding some pretty gnarly trails and the bike has taken it all in it's stride with no reliability issues. I am on several Facebook groups and forums, have not really heard many horror stories on reliability on the Tuaregs.... Main thing people complain about is the heat from the catalytic converter, where they say it is uncomfortably hot... although I don't find mine any hotter than my GSXR. I have had a slight stutter/hesitation from the engine at set speed on a neutral throttle at 30mph and 40mph, which a few others have noticed, but it is intermittent and I've found it less of an issue on mine since fitting heated grips, but it does still occasionally happen.

      @@HippoDrones - Thank you for sharing these details. I have seen/heard similar about heat and mapping at neutral throttle. My experience on other bikes is that you learn to ride around them and forget about it. Encouraging to hear you have had a positive ownership experience.
