DAVID TURCZAK No. Medicare for All, from every single study out there, costs less than our current system. In our current system, the cost burden falls mostly on middle class and poorer people. In a single payer system you pay a bit more in taxes, but your overall costs go down.

Your population is currently underemployed because the wages are pathetic. 78% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Sanders is proposing raising the minimum wage to a living wage.
as a recent grad making $52k I pay an effective tax rate of just below 23% in Canada and I get universal health care (no deductibles, no copayments for ANYTHING) among a plethora of other things. You don't need to raise the tax rate to 50% at all. A higher population doesn't make any sort of significant difference. The same people will still require health care when they get sick, only this time they won't be worried about medical bills.
and then there's people who say they really like their private health insurance in America, but let's be honest, you're the exception, not the rule.
You'll get a living wage under Sanders, you'll give up some extra taxes, but it's for your peace of mind. free doctor (any doctor) at the point of service whenever you get sick. free at the point of service whenever you decide you want to pursue an education, universal mental health services for people who require them, possibly leading to reduced violence from those people that are set off, making the country itself safer.

The big issue here is the US has a president and a binary outcome of the district elections. What needs to be changed is the votes that are nullified after loosing a district. A party should be able to carry the votes to the end, and a voter should be able to rest assured that even if they vote for a looser then its not all lost.
Implement parlaimentarism, get multible parties. Enable people to vote for the ideals they believe in , rather than vote for the lesser evil. Get structural changes so a candidate with 25 % of the vote will get a saying after the election despite they didnt win.
What OP is saying is the nightmare of a democracy. The apathy or fatalism towards the outcome should be replaced with a certainty that your vote will be represented proportionally to the combined amounts of votes.

Medicare, as it stands today, is the most popular and efficient health insurance program in the country ranked, no private insurance can compete. 64 year olds literally are super eager to get into the program cuz they finally won’t have to be paying for BS private health insurance with high deductibles. It also has crossover appeal because, in case you haven’t noticed, most republicans/conservative voters are old, and when you tell them that their social security will be expanded (Bernie wants to do that) and that their Medicare benefits will be expanded to include dental, vision, hearing aid, and long term/home care, they love it.
