yea, but tbh havok is also good even by todays standards. most AAA games have worse psychics than Source 1's Havok Source 2 is obviously an improvement, but that doesnt mean the previous one was bad. they needed more precise engine so you can better manipulate objects in VR (tho Garry's mod rotating wasnt bad either)
yeah they have to add sound simulation also like actual vibrations coming from the collisions of the objects, there are papers written about exactly that!
@@Lethal_Spoon Ok it exists but now every game made by valve will be done is source 2 and Garrys Mod is more a sandbox for people to fuck around in Source 1 than a game
@@Lethal_Spoon listen what I mean by that is now new games will be done on a source 1 engine they will be made on source 2. Games like tf2 garrys mod cs:go will maybe get a upgrade to source 2 if valve wants to do it
Imagine how this would play out with Half Life 2 physics. The glasses would just shatter as soon as the thing is picked up (Granted, that's usually because objects that are picked up immediately zip in front of the player at a high speed breaking anything in the way)
The coolest part is how they actually seem to have weight up against the inside of the box Like when you picked it up the Second time sideways they didn't just slide out of the side of the crate they fell with it till they hit the floor That's some good shit
One problem I've seen showcased in another video displaying the physics in Source 2 is the fact that collision becomes really wonky when objects are colliding at fast speeds, sometimes passing right through solid objects...
I see someone's been watching Goutrial's videos haha. I'm not too versed on the in-depth aspects of Rubikon in Source 2, but it doesn't seem like an engine issue, more of a computational issue. I'll quote one of the top comments on the video you got your info from: "The part where stuff glitches if you move too fast isn't even a problem with the engine itself. The reason why, is that you have to decide how many times per second a physic engine updates. If you pick a low value you are more likely to have bugs like that. If you pick a high value you will need more processing power, but have less glitches. That is at least what I have experienced playing with rigid body simulations. So in the future when computers get even faster they might up that value." - MythenKanacke So in the end, Source 2 is still an amazingly well-optimized engine the will most likely just get better. I mean, it already seems to have beaten Source which uses the dated (yet impressive) Havok system.
Wonder what Gary has for us. will it support VR manipulation from HL:A ? or just the HL2 controlls. maybe you will be able to switch from VR controlls to HL2 controlls
Yeah, Havok didn't really like having objects in objects. I mean, if you didn't move it too fast it would work, but the moment the objects start going around fast enough it goes critical and implodes.
Actually you can make the same in HL2, but with small amount of objects, firstly i saw it in Ravenholm with the use of gravitt gun. Im even screenshotted it to my Steam profile.
It actually does, the heavier the object the more it lags behind your movement and if you pick it up too fast you'll drop it. This way they trick you into picking up the heavier things more slowly. I actually felt like lifting something heavy when moving barrels and crates around in HL:A
There's two problems I have with source 2's physics; -the bottle breaking, bottles don't f*cking explode when dropped on the ground, only the part that actually hits the ground breaks. And even considering that, I think bottles in alyx are still way too fragile, they break from very short falls and slight impacts. -most objects are really stiff, even latex gloves or boots. Everything is just rock hard
I can already hear what its like if it was in source 1
