- How to make external aquarium filter using a jar with no leakage like a canister filter but with a pump in the tank.

This filter is placed outside the aquarium but uses an internal power head. The tube is made of medium sized jar and inside it uses a combination of filter media.
This is just an experiment that I applied to my aquarium. You can change all filter media including media arrangements based on your own concept.
How this filter works:
Water is driven from internal power head into the external filter then it will go through the order of the filter media. Clean water will flow back into the aquarium.

The filter is great but I would consider putting the finer white media first and your bio balls on the top so your bioballs do not get clogged with dirt. But great thanks!

Does this not filter from the bottom up? If so i would keep bio balls at the bottom so they agitate the water first, then coarse spongez then slighty finer, then another layer of even finer sponge then the wool type stuff at the top, on top of that yiu want some alfagrog or ceramic media for the bacteria to grow on

The only thing I would suggest is not using a disc to hold the mechanical media, you never know what the top coating is made of. Otherwise great diy video, loved it.

water not coming in jar. i used small jars with DC 3-6V submersible pump. when water go below pump then it stop bcoz in 2nd jar water not come inside from tank.

@@zainniaz6684 Shopee and Tokopedia are from Indonesia. But you can get aquarium supplies from any marketplace. Find one in your country. If you can't, then I would suggest aliexpress or alibaba. They're based in China but they deliver over the globe.

Like how the pump works. First pipe is the inlet and the other is the outlet, it's just designed to make the inlet through the filter media. That is why container must be closed (no leaks)

How does the water came out, where do you buy bio balls it needs cleaning
The filter must be filled with water first because it uses a submersible power head. I'm sorry I didn't record this process. I buy bioball at the market place. It's true, it requires cleaning and can be done by opening the lid. This is just an experiment, all media and sequences can be replaced according to your concept.
So how do you reattach the power cord? Electrical tape?
cheap and dangerous.....tape it. safe and costs like 5 dollars..........a new plug from hardware store. if you made the filter, installing a plug should be a 1 minute job for you.

I am having trouble, the output flow is going faster than the input, and in a short time the water in the canister gets too low for the motor. Any advice?
I still haven't fixed the high output issue... I would advise anyone attempting to make this filter, to run a 24-hour test with an empty spare tank or other container, to see if the water levels remain the same in both the tank and the canister.

First I fill the container with water before the pump is run, then the water will flow continuously through the filter.
Hi, I am trying to do something similar, but placing the pump at the bottom of the container. My problem is that the water is being pumped out much faster than it comes in (even when the pump is set to its lowest power). It is not a strong pump, and I would have expected the opposite problem in any case.
How could I ensure the influx and outflux flows are the same?? I am puzzled here and would appreciate any help!

My tank capacity is 450ltrs. Can I buy dophin c1300 which is 2500ltr/h or should I buy c1000 which is 1650ltr/h
My experience in the community, you should use a power head with a capacity of at least 10 times the volume of water in liters for optimal result. But that is not absolute, but if greater capacity will be clearer faster. Thanks for your comment.

Saat itu saya pake submersible 5W 400L/H mereknya lupa lagi. Kepadatan media filter harus disesuaikan daya power head. Filter ini hanya cocok untuk akuarium kecil.

Of course you can, this is just an experiment. The important thing is that the filter media used and the pump can be placed in the jar.
