GTA 4 was a masterpiece and one of the best games of it's generation. I can't count how many times I played through the story. A game with real heart and soul.
Remember that the online mode has no anti-cheat. You gotta be a lil careful since older gens can be modded easily. Its not as bad tho. Its nothing like gta 5 online on pc where you get caged and ddos'ed
GTA IV is so unique and niche, like a cult classic. I love the way it encompasses 70s - 00s New York through music, cars and the general environment. I mean you can tell there are big movie influences in the atmosphere and aesthetic I mean Donnie Brasco, Juice and even the Russian film Brother 2, it's just beautiful. And you said it, grim and uneasy just like New York through those eras. It's a shame how this game had its soundtrack, pretty much the soul of the game ripped out, and recordings are all muted by default now. Horrific. For 2008 this game was perfect and I rememeber being a kid not being able to play it just made me so hungry for it that I appreciate it so much direly. Strong bias and passionate love for GTA IV. I swear the online mode, the only area ever used was at the Airport. Again, as he says it was barebones and very minimal but you made your own fun, and even imagination. And I somehow had years of fun on 360, times when BenBuja and Machinima were owning TH-cam audiences
GTA 4 was made by the "original" Rockstar/DMX design team in Edinburgh - the core team who made 1 and 2.. you can tell the difference. GTA SA and V is made by the US team. GTA will be great nonetheless.
I just started playing Episodes from Liberty City again on my Ps3! Having lots of fun, GTA IV is just amazing. Screwing around with the physics alone keeps me busy for hours. Weapons also have a lot more impact than in GTA V and civilians don’t die as easily so you can have epic fistfights.
@@Mannysosa223 all of the side missions in San Andreas suck. Trucking, quarry, etc. only thing San Andreas had over IV was gambling. Which gets boring very quickly. Pool, air hockey, and Hi-Lo are much more fun to play.

Everyone these past years have been SCREAMING for a GTA III, VC, and SA remaster while I was wishing for a GTA IV remaster. No shade on the OG, but GTA IV and its Episodes have been one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had in my childhood, and it’s a shame rockstar treats it like some black sheep. While I fear if they ever do remaster the game, it’ll end up with the qualities of the “definitive edition,” I hope Rockstar and other developers learn from their mistakes and redeem themselves
Currently playing & the story is 10x more developed! Very nostalgic. Also LOVE the rag doll mechanics. Fun fact: as a kid I didn’t know you could set a waypoint on San Andreas so I too knew exactly where to go or how to find things. I use to drive to the country to take the highway that one way was San fierro and the other was las venturas.
Except for some textures, Gta 4 really looks and feels like it released after Gta 5, and being chased by griefers is a lot of fun because it always starts some long and fun pursuits across the city, whereas in 5 you get blown up or at best it becomes a 1v1 sniper fest without any car chases
Do you know this game has a pilot community? Over the years people have reputations being the best in 1v1 dogfights etc the skill gap in piloting is massive

You explained this game perfect. I loved the online back in the day and it is very true it takes a lot of skill to fly, aim and shoot from the chopper and I’ve always been proud to say I got really good but not close to the best. GTA pilots on this game deserve respect bc they have true skill the whole experience takes tremendous skill unlike gta 5. I’ve played a couple of times here and there recently and need a lot of warming up but it’s still very fun to play I plan to play more on Xbox.
I have a friend who was literally so good with it that he’ll circle you from above and just annihilate you with those bullets . Whenever I rode with him I deff felt protected 😂

I’m that good too when I first started playing back in 2012 I thought the pilots had auto aim bc of how it seemed like they could lock onto a car or person but no I learned that it takes pure skill to do that and there is zero auto-aim. Till this day there is not another game that has required the type of skill it takes to fly and fight in a chopper in gta 4

I thought it had the best graphics when it first came out. I first had ballad of gay Tony then that got lost. Somehow ended up buying the game again with all the dlcs. Wasn’t a big fan of lost and damned but the rest was history for me. That first mission when you get to drive Tony’s Mercedes’ was a spectacular experience.
@Mike GTA V is full of script, the vehicle damage is script for example and there are much more stupid scripts. GTA V vehicle physics are worse than gta san andreas, you couldn't climb a mountain with a front wheel drive car in san andreas... but in GTA V any car can and there is not much difference between the cars, 4x4 vehicles performs worse in dirt roads because there is a script that makes them slower, which is sad since gta V is the GTA with more rural areas.
I think other people prefer gta v because it has more customization and the driving is abit fun, because customization in gta iv was an after thought, you couldnt even change your hair style for example. And of course the graphics and location. I personally prefer Los Santos(LA) more than Liberty City(NYC). These two games both have strong aspects and weak aspects so to me they are equal because of that. And before you say in a gta 5 fanboy, nahh, im actually a RDR1 and RDR2 fanboy, never did fanboy on gta ever
@@anonymous_dot_com2326 i feel like even with that, gta 4’s multiplayer just lets you do what you want, you can create a game mode racing tdm, rockets and grenades ect ect, or everyone can just run around the map, getting revenge (grudge matches) doing drag races, blowing each other up, trying to jump from a helicopter onto the tip of the tallest building, playing the game where someone runs away and you have to shoot them with a. Sniper, pushing people and npc’s off a cliff, using a helicopter to fling cars miles away, or chucking stickies out a car window to blow people and their cars up. Their is just so much you can experiment with and do in the multiplayer. And the police never comes you never get gang raided you never have to buy a vehicle. And the physics are just great which ads allot to gameplay. They could defiantly add more like cheats custom physics map building, but its a fantastic core for a game that is just fun cos of how its designed.

I love it, it's my favorite GTA game and one of my top 10 games ever. It's my go to game whenever I want to cause some mayhem and destruction. The way the game does physics and destruction is just the best. Running over pedestrians and the way they limp or crawl when they're injured is brutally amazing and fun, the meaty explosions, the car crashes feel and look great. Causing chaos is just so satisfying. For me, there's no other game where I can just jump in and cause mayhem and an awesome car chase. As far as car chases go, Driver San Francisco is the only other game that can compete imo. I love GTA 5, i played through the story 3 or 4 times at least but GTA 4 is my favorite GTA so far.
PSA TBOGT is like £13 on the xbox store hosted on your dashboard. If you use the in game marketplace as opposed to the dashboard store it will open up the Xbox 360 dashboard marketplace where it is listed for £6.
I never played a gta game before until 2022 after I beat rdr1 for the third time I wanted to give gta 4 a try. I ended up loveing the game and it's story it is one of my favorite games.
GTA 5 hand to hand combat is where they really messed up for me. Gta4 fighting was so good. And when people were at a lower health they would stumble and sometimes fall when u punched them.
My main issue with GTA IV is the way they changed character movement from San Andreas. The movement in GTA IV and onwards feels like you are trying to puppeteer the character with a string
For anyone looking to get a rgh 360 i can recommend console warehouse. I got one in late 2020 and it's been great. You might have to buy a second kv if trying to go online. My console kv was banned when I got it. Luckily console warehouse sells new kvs for around 6$ usd. Which is the cheapest I've found.
GTA IV was my first GTA game ever. I would play it at my cousin’s house until he gave it to me. I still play it to this day because of the realism of the city and the characters are actually fun to hang out with compared to GTA V where the characters all act the same.
GTA 4 will always be my favorite rockstar game. Right behind RDR2. I had so much great memories playing GTA4 when I was younger. Imo the best gta story. And imo the best physics . Niko I will always be my favorite character.

My Dad play Gta IV too, he bought that game when i Was 2 Months old, when i was 9 years old, he played that game and i watched him playing that game, and he had so much fun with this game, and one day i played it too, i still play this game in 2022 and my Dad too im so proud he didnt quit to play Gta IV :D
I'm old enough to have played all Grand Theft Auto games from the very first game with the overhead camera to the current GTA. GTA 4 has definitely got one of the most compelling stories.

I played this in high school growing up and its been so long i forgot all about the story and everything .. i bought it on steam recently for 6 bucks with not much expectations just knowing i used to love it . Once i turned it on though .. wow did i get a blast of nostalgia … that song SUPA STAR - GROUP HOME brings back so many feelings from my childhood high in my room playing this game while my folks were asleep lmfao .im literally getting goosebumps writing this because this game meant the world to me as a kid. I literally remember at some point thinking to myself wow how have i not got bored of this ..lol . I HIGHLY recommend everyone to replay this game in 2023 its still as good as it was on release date

August 2022 update, the ballad of gay Tony holds up still. Also on pc atleast they added vice city radio to all 3 versions. Still a gem, I hope the game drought ends soon.

If you can afford it, buy The Complete Edition. This edition will include both The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony DLCs, which are as awesome or even better than the original game, I recommend The Complete Edition 100%.
It's funny how groundbreaking GTA 4 was on the new consoles in 2008. Even though GTA5 is graphically superior, it lacked in having fleshed out characters and the world felt empty. Gta 4 had interior locations, great physics and gritty campaign.
Fact: I am a sad bum who knows his way around Los Santos without a waypoint; I know that city better than my home town. GTA IV is my 2nd favorite GTA, only 2nd to San Andreas, being my #1

@@anonymous_dot_com2326 i dont get why goven all the combat interaction in gta 4 are better, enemy’s and police react better, the driving is more realistic with actual weight so cars feel different the destruction and deformation of the cars is more realistic , the free running and climbing is better so theirs always manny ways to interact with a situation, i don’t see how in any way gta 5 could be considered better, to add to all that theirs even a silly system in gta 5 where the police cars gain ridiculous amounts of speed for no reason during chases.
I love it, it's my favorite GTA game and one of my top 10 games ever. It's my go to game whenever I want to cause some mayhem and destruction. The way the game does physics and destruction is just the best. Running over pedestrians and the way they limp or crawl when they're injured is brutally amazing and fun, the meaty explosions, the car crashes feel and look great. Causing chaos is just so satisfying. For me, there's no other game where I can just jump in and cause mayhem and an awesome car chase. As far as car chases go, Driver San Francisco is the only other game that can compete imo. I love GTA 5, i played through the story 3 or 4 times at least but GTA 4 is my favorite GTA so far.
PSA TBOGT is like £13 on the xbox store hosted on your dashboard. If you use the in game marketplace as opposed to the dashboard store it will open up the Xbox 360 dashboard marketplace where it is listed for £6.
I never played a gta game before until 2022 after I beat rdr1 for the third time I wanted to give gta 4 a try. I ended up loveing the game and it's story it is one of my favorite games.
GTA 5 hand to hand combat is where they really messed up for me. Gta4 fighting was so good. And when people were at a lower health they would stumble and sometimes fall when u punched them.
My main issue with GTA IV is the way they changed character movement from San Andreas. The movement in GTA IV and onwards feels like you are trying to puppeteer the character with a string

You might have to buy a second kv if trying to go online.
My console kv was banned when I got it.
Luckily console warehouse sells new kvs for around 6$ usd. Which is the cheapest I've found.

GTA IV was my first GTA game ever. I would play it at my cousin’s house until he gave it to me. I still play it to this day because of the realism of the city and the characters are actually fun to hang out with compared to GTA V where the characters all act the same.
GTA 4 will always be my favorite rockstar game. Right behind RDR2. I had so much great memories playing GTA4 when I was younger. Imo the best gta story. And imo the best physics . Niko I will always be my favorite character.

Gta 4 coming out in 2008 and being that advanced in that time is insane, i played this game up until like 2012
also, i played gta 4 around a decade ago when i was a dumb teenager. now i'm a dumb adult and i think i will be able to understand more of the story more if i play it again today
playing this back as a kid, on a ps3 was so awful because of it being 720p now i have a pc and at 1080p it looks amazing

My Dad play Gta IV too, he bought that game when i Was 2 Months old, when i was 9 years old, he played that game and i watched him playing that game, and he had so much fun with this game, and one day i played it too, i still play this game in 2022 and my Dad too im so proud he didnt quit to play Gta IV :D

I also hate it when when you followed Franklin Trevor or Michael eventually they will start punching you to the ground until you were dead. this is exactly why I like the PS2 GTA games better because they actually treat you right and they are actually much more friendlier than GTA V any day of the week and I don't care if people call me crazy or not, but every single day when my dad plays GTA V online, When he gets chased by police in the game he always gets shot by the window in a car not giving him enough time to even escape from the police which makes it actually more frustrating than challenging when I actually like to play video games to relax. so glad I'm still playing GTA San Andreas with Mods on my PC and GTA LCS on my PS2 with pedestrians following me for years to come because it feels like I have real friends and none of your bullshit GTA online bullshit that doesn't even allow mods for fucks sake! fuck you rockstar please allow Mods for online let us be whoever we want like a Spiderman skin or something!!

I played this in high school growing up and its been so long i forgot all about the story and everything .. i bought it on steam recently for 6 bucks with not much expectations just knowing i used to love it . Once i turned it on though .. wow did i get a blast of nostalgia … that song SUPA STAR - GROUP HOME brings back so many feelings from my childhood high in my room playing this game while my folks were asleep lmfao .im literally getting goosebumps writing this because this game meant the world to me as a kid. I literally remember at some point thinking to myself wow how have i not got bored of this ..lol . I HIGHLY recommend everyone to replay this game in 2023 its still as good as it was on release date

Idk why is there so hate for GTA 4, like fr man whats so bad about praising GTA 4? It was such a good game, Good physics, Good Story, Good Gameplay, Good Details, Good atmosphere (It really feels like your in New York! Even if you put the vehicles density to max!) While in 2013 GTA V is soo boring, the physics, details, sometimes gameplay. I dont give a crap if the graphics was better. GTA 4 Showed that realism and good graphics THAT WAS ALL IN 2008! It's funny how groundbreaking GTA 4 was on the new consoles in 2008. Even though GTA5 is graphically superior, it lacked in having fleshed out characters and the world felt empty. Gta 4 had interior locations, great physics and gritty campaign.
Currently I only have GTA 4 and SA rn but will be getting 5 soon but in all the ones I've played including 5 I think my favorite is probably 4.
