    1 - strip all oils and residue from the surface of the metal
    2 - heat the metal slowly and gradually build the colour into the surface

    My burnt titanium tips are fading. Can i just clean them up and re burn them with propane to get that vibrant blue again? Or do i need to sand tje whole thing (erase the current burnt look)?

    • @sentinol8943
      @sentinol8943 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would recommend sanding it. Just because it would get a better result. What I would do is clean it with East her brake parts cleaner, or even just soapy water. Use some rubbing alcohol or acetone and rub it all down. And make sure your wearing gloves. After that, use a wire wheel and go over the entire thing. I would sand it down using a low grit such as 140. Then continue up until probably 2k. Then follow this process. After. You should probably clean it up with some polish but it’s up to you.

  • @JoyeMusiccom
    @JoyeMusiccom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Did you ever try using electricity to color Ti by anodizing? I messed with small Ti parts in water (plus some trisodium phosphate for conductivity). I had to go up to about 100 volts to get the greens and pinks. Blues are around 30-40v as I remember. I think the anodizing produces a really even color that can't be matched doing it by hand. But I also didn't try it on welded parts. In anodizing, there's no heating, so the weld mass is irrelevant. The question is whether the alloy in the weld is different from the part and whether that will color differently.
    Nice work, though!

    So I got a used dirt bike with a titanium fmf system. My cousin convinced my to sandblast the header and I also got the mid pipe vapor blasted. The vapor blasted part turned out great and is still blue. The sand blasted looks like a basic piece of metal. I regret my decision but it's a learning process and I can't go back on it. If I polish out the sandblasted pipe, can I get the same result or does that wreck anything in the metal? The header was also welded by the power bomb. I think it was just some basic wire welding. Looks pretty bad but you said the polish the welds. If I polish that weld, will it have the same result? Is there certain welds that aren't compatible with the titanium turning blue?

    Just keep it a silver. It will be stronger and you won't oxidize the alloy in any way. Nobody gives a shit about the color because nobody is going to look at.

      I work with TI2. You make it weaker when heat it added unless it's added within a vacuum chamber. Once you add oxygen it is prone to future oxidization and failure.

      But as long as you look "cool" (over a muffler?) Then it's all fine

    2:14 titanium isn't steel at all ;) Steel is Iron and carbon and sometimes other elements. Titanium is... Titanium. Sometimes alloyed with other stuff, but it's a totally different element.
