No but seriously, I'm learning to play lead on Hawaii Five O and I appreciate all the extra little licks and bends. He makes it all seem so darned easy. (Not that it's a difficult tune, honestly, but Nokie looks like he could play it in his sleep. Maybe he could. Whereas the rhythm guitarist is just about breaking the sound barrier with his right hand!
In 1968 or some time around then Nokie said he had left the band. If that was the case, he really missed the boat on that one. Jerry was an outstanding guitarist in his own right and didn't miss a beat when he joined to play lead with the Ventures.
I saw The Ventures 2 times in live performance. I asked Gerry did he play lead guitar on Hawaii Five O. He said he did the lead on Hawaii Five O. While on here Don Wilson told me that Gerry was one of the best picker around.
What's shakin on the big island Chin? Yeah, book em Danno. Love the Venturers. Roll down my car window and jam, as people look and smile and I'm like making dance moves, lol.
@@kelseymathias3881 Thanks. I play these songs on the school bus , I'm a charter driver, grab the broom, start surf dancing and playing air guitar, sing when they reboard. The kids love it, never saw driver jam before. See also video of Manchurian Beat, I love that song . Ginza Lights , blue dawn. The Ryders are great too.
@@leslienagy6053 Manchurian beat is one of my favorite songs, especially bass covers. Also love Ginza Lights....and the Ryders are fabulous...they always do a Christmas song and end with saying "God Yul" 😂😂You sound like the best school bus driver ever!
@@kelseymathias3881 Just wanna make folks smile, show them the 60s music. Surf instrumentals , best music ever. But next up I'm planning to do Give it Up by KC&the sunshine band, show them some disco shuffle moves from the 70s, lol. Recently came upon a song by the Fathoms, called She's the One, I performed that too. Check it out ! I also gave inspirational speeches once in a while to the HS teams, good advices of life. They thank me. Dont know why I do , just do something positive. The Ventures, surf and 60s take my sadness away when I'm down and go thru hardship. I also think ELO& Jeff Lynne is a music genious. Jeff Lynne's ELO live at Wembley, or Calling America, latitude 88 north, so many good songs by them, check out the videos. P.S. I said to the team I took last week....I'm Leslie, and your in luck, cause this is the rock n roll bus. One time I answer the bus radio, by saying.... Yeah, this is the psychedelic mellow yellow magical mystery tour bus, what's grooving down sugar mama? Lol. Forgot the Locomotions.
@@leslienagy6053 We (especially kids) need more people like you Leslie. Speaking of ELO...great song is Hold on Tight....perfect for times like these when so many people are feeling angst. God bless you!

I understand that Gerry McGee played lead guitar on Hawaii Five-O single !!
