You all prolly dont give a shit but does any of you know a trick to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost the password. I love any tricks you can offer me!
@Tomas Kenzo thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
I'm not a dog trainer but a hobbyist and an avid fan of Michael Ellis and Leerburg site. As an English teacher, I find many similarities between training dogs and teaching children. Teaching children involves not only teaching the child him/herself but dealing, managing and encouraging the parents and find ways to let parents enjoy the little hurdles that the child has overcome. Listening to the conversation it sounds like when you are dealing with pet owners, it takes patience and need to have the intuition to see what the pet owners capabilities are. This pod cast teaches us that to achieve success in any genre, hard work, patience, experience, passion and courage to point the finger at yourself is the key.
As a pet parent, I need patience, consistency, small steps on a daily basis with my dog. It won't happen overnight and it's not glamorous. Most of all, I have to love working with my pet in order to eventually get results. Watching and hearing Tom talk about Leerburg and Michael Ellis only reinforces my confidence in the quality of information I am consuming and learning from. Thank you, Tom.
Late to the peanut gallery here. As a longtime GSD lover/ owner, Michael Ellis is one of my favorite trainers ever! I've never done any sort of protection training, but his sensible and informed approach to handling dogs in general was so refreshing after all the "pure positive" nonsense here. I was happy he and his training business moved to my area in California. He and his team have likely saved a number of dogs from euthanasia at the local shelters due to behavioral issues. It was certainly a roller coaster for us here too, what with the devastating fires in Sonoma County and then the "global health issue". You are starting to become a close second favorite Tom :-). Love the lifelong learning displayed by you both.
Hey Tom. I'm happy you took the time to interview Michael. It was well received and greatly appreciated. Michael Ellis is one of my hero's in the canine world. His knowledge and command on dog psychology is matched by few. I have always and would continue to admire his work. A demonstration of his maturity was touched on in the interview by the way he'd handle resistant people. He reiterated the importance of being patient with our clients as people absorb information and develop at different rates. He said that "we" as trainers would have spent significant time developing a particular expertise that we sometimes expect most people to just adopt and follow. That isn't always the case which only reinforces the point to be patient. Another point that stood out was the fact that dog training trends mirror societal trends. Tom brought up the transformative ability of an individual to convey his message in a way that would be palatable to the general audiences. So many dog trainers are just that; good dog trainers with little to no communication skills with people. An integral part of being a successful dog trainer is the ability to communicate with people. Because after all they are the ones to provide you with business and referrals.... not the dog.
Just started a job at a dog daycare. I pick up poop I make sure they don't fight I make sure they dont hump. I also make sure to appreciate the beauty of how they communicate and correct me if I don't come in with the right energy. Your videos helped me feel confident as I've never been with more than 2 or 3 dogs and now am ok with groups much larger than that!
I just love Michael Ellis natural, rational approach to teaching. What a gift for us to listen to him. It's very encouraging for us "layman" dog trainer with our own personal dogs.
You actually turned me on to Michael when you’d mentioned him in one of your vids. He is brilliant. I have a rescued Pit and have become so frustrated with “trainers” in my area- ineffective at best and rip-offs at worst- and let me just say it’s so refreshing to watch both of you. Your collective understanding of dogs, their drives, their fears, their motivations- combined with your own unique philosophies and methods - you guys rock!
I can’t thank you ENOUGH for these videos. I have a newly adopted Akita mix. She is rambunctious and reactive when she’s on walks/runs with me. I was losing my mind and felt like a failure. I have binge watched all of your videos and have picked up tips and tricks. We have purchased every tool you recommend and her “leave it” has become so much better. We know her triggers and have worked with her. Just yesterday she didn’t react to a child riding their bike and she didn’t react to a dog walking with their owner across the street from us. Such a big improvement in less than two weeks. Thank you SOO MUCH!!
Since finding tom I have made strides with my dog, and he has made me really consider becoming a trainer. Training is becoming something I have been enjoying.
"I like this information but I don't know where to put it" I felt this. Being a professional positive trainer for a big corporation, and a balanced trainer on the side...there is SO MUCH I HAVE to compartmentalize. It's tough! Thanks for this, gentlemen. This has been so informative and self confirming that I'm doing what I should have been my whole life. Keep on keepin' on.
I love you guys, I got a golden retriever puppy to train as a service dog for myself after my husband died last year. I have been going through a school up here in NH. My Scout is very smart, but crazy playful, I needed to work hard with him on impulse control and no leash pulling, since he can easily take me out. I got a dogtra colar and it is helping me tighten up his training. He listens better, and obeys quicker. I want him to pass his tests for public access because I need him. Thank you
My mom (former behaviorist) followed Ian Dunbar. If you like this trainer I will start watching him. Tom your very practical and demonstrate great work
As someone who is new to dog training, this is so helpful. I’m working with my first dog now, and your channel has been a massive help from the moment I got her.
Michael Ellis was a pioneer for dog training and dog sports that is comparable to no one I’ve ever seen. Two people I know have been fortunate enough to experience his “one on one” training. I agree with the Michael Ellis’ students... He truly is the BEST!
What a treat for us. Tom and Michael Ellis together talking. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Tom can you please do video teaching us different techniques to work through dog reactivity? i.e. working from a distance praise and treats and how to do some proofing as you get close. How much correction and when so that we don't make the problem worse i.e. dog thinks everytime I see dog I get corrected.

Found a new person to stalk!!😂😂 LOVE THIS!!! Needed every word. Covid also threw me into a change that I felt was a long time coming. I am hoping to shift my behavior therapy from helping families with disabilities to dogs within families and see where it leads! I am so excited to see professional people who have knowledge in the behavior side. What an amazing few days of overwhelming inspiration :) My first time attempting this field a decade ago left me in despair. HOW EXCITING!!!
I worked with a dog trainer that is awesome but with COVID she had me do a lot of videos that I send to her over 1 week and then she can review them. Then we meet via zoom and review what she observed and what I need to do to fix this dogs behavior. It worked really well. Just tossing that out. I will also say that I am an more experienced dog handler and I work will foster dogs with behavior issues. I’m a RN but am working to get get certified. I do everything for free and am in dog rescue. You have really opened my mind to use of other tools such as the prong and e-collar. I’m also already part of the No Bad Dogs Army.
Micheal Ellis is an amazing man and trainer this was so inspirational and motivational as a novice dog trainer starting my career through the Animal Behavioral College
I would be interested in hearing more about this I'm a Canadian and its extremely difficult to become a trainer especially with peta and animal advocates stigma on postive only trainers and banning all tools
Thanks for having this conversation with Michael Ellis, it was really interesting to listen to! You might want to think about cutting back on your "air time" when you have a guest on your channel, as it's typically nice to let the guest have a majority of the speaking time. I understand that this was a conversation, not an interview, but there were times when you talked for nearly 20 minutes without Michael saying much of anything.
I disagree. I enjoyed listening to both of these guys. It was a conversation. This implies both parties speaking. If I wanted to hear only Mr. Ellis I would have been watching his channel.
I was sooo excited to see this! Two brilliant “dog minds” in one place who are BOTH so unassuming and easy to learn from. I have been a customer of Leerburg for years and learned so much from Michael and I’ve been following Tom for a couple years now.
Wow tom, i was just listening to your story of how u got into dog training and it seriously gave me goosebumps. Like I said in previous messages, I didn't know u knew Michael at all. and to see that u guys r friends, being my too favorite dog trainers. And as far as your story, its exactly my story so far. I started training as just a hobby. Working w my own pet dogs at the time and I learned a lot from that experience, making lots of mistakes and learning from them, along the way. Then one day, I came across one of Michaels videos and immediately got interested in Schutzhund/ ipo. However, I never had the money and/or the means to hire a professional trainer to teach me. I began reading/ studying a lot, primarily Michaels techniques. But it was always just a hobby and something I loved doing. However, about 2 years ago, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career, as a professional dog trainer, instead of it just being a hobby, When I came across a video of you. I learned a lot and started watching your videos as much as I could. Then the more I learned from u and Michael, the more my appetite to learn as much as I could, kept growing and growing and eventually made me want to pursue professional dog training career. But I definitely can't afford hiring a trainer, to teach me how to become a professional trainer. I wish I could go to Michaels school Or be able to learn from you one on one. But its around 20,000 to attend his school. I absolutely love and admire the ways u get dogs to respond to you. I know a lot about training and I'm told I'm really good at, by ppl, who see me with one of my dogs! Especially when ppl see how well they're trained, often they will ask me if I could train there dogs. That happens atleast 2 or 3 times a week. I always say no, cause I have this fear that I will fail in training other ppls dogs and not b as good as I thought. So for right now I'm going to keep building my knowledge and techniques the best I can, until I can afford to learn from a professional, I just wanna make sure,, there is no doubt in my mind. And lately, I've been emailing back and forth with Cindy the last few weeks and she invited me out to one of there events or seminars, after this crazy virus stuff is over with. So I just wanted to share that with you. And please if u have any advice as to how I should go about transferring from a hobby/passion, to a career in dog training. So anyway I just thought it was awesome, that our stories have so much in common and it gives me so much more hope, and also reminds me, if I keep working hard at it, it will happen eventually, like it did for you.
PS: AAAAh! Abcpdt... ditto. Lol. Worked under an ex kgb border patrol handler after that.... didn't rip it up, but yup! Had I not done it, I wouldn't have met 'em.
Listened to it twice! I like the over the shoulder shot, even though it feels like I’m eavesdropping... thanks for sharing. I really needed to hear Michael say it’s ok, and better, to go slow
I could listen to Michael Ellis talk about dog training all day long. I'm not familiar with Tom Davis but I am now and will check out more of his stuff.
Michael Ellis is such a progressive in the dog training world. Amazing wisdom and insight. Train the dog in front of you....expose yourself to all methodologies... I could listen to him talk about dog training all day long. Thanks for this interview~!
I Study companion animals, grooming,Behavior, training and so on.I could add a whole list.Im in high school and I absolutely love it. Tom I love your channel your a big inspiration!
Michael and you rock! ♡ Thanks for this! Owning WL GSDs for 15 plus yrs now I long to learn more and hope to get close to your level one day! ♡ Like you Tom, I'm always seeking to learn and understand dogs SO much more!
And I've never taken a online class BUT I have considered one from Michael but not sure which to take to help with my own knowledge on dog training? I love obed but my love has been agility competing. Love flashy tricks or obed skills but do lack in the dept some. Would love to learn more about dog behavior also. Any suggestions? Tks 8)
I listened this this podcast this morning and then came across the video on accident just now. THANK YOU for having this version. There’s a bit more connection and I’m absorbing more information the second time around! 🤘
I truly enjoy your TH-cam dog training video's!!! You're obviously very well educated in your knowledge of the behaviors of our canine friends...thanks for sharing!
Definitely post more about this, I think it’s important to hear the background and education you and other trainers have received. Also the animal behavior from your doggy daycare.... LOVE THIS! One of my favorite things to watch are dogs interacting with each other! And to have your view point is awesome... always thought I was the only one 🙃🐾❤️🐾
Love this video I have been training my 2 yr old GSD and my girl guides me now I have my obedience and great recall and place right I can't believe how much trust she has in me to allow her freedom all taught by studying your lessons I wish I was 30 years younger I would have had a GSD at my side I am now 70 so she is my last
Tom, thank you for really showing your love for dogs by continuing to create content that educates people properly! This is just another example of your dedication to grounded, realistic education for both dogs and us dumb humans, lol!!! Thanks again!
I’m in San Diego myself trying to get into more training aside from my own dogs I have two Belgian malinois and a blue nose pit bull prior. But going to try and volunteer at local shelters with problem dogs to try and get dogs rehomed in a responsible manner. This video is so rad!Michael Ellis and my boy from upstate👍🏻
This is kismet. Love Michael Ellis. Have a bunch of Leerburg vids. This is the first time I've seen two great trainers just chat about being a trainer. Awesome idea Tom, just great.
I'm a dog walker in a small Alaskan town who loves dogs. I initially came to learn more about teaching the dog owners to handle their dogs easier. They see them behave so well for me they want to do it too. Then people see me walking around town and ask if I can help train their dog. What tools work for me don't always work for them. I am always just trying to learn more. My job is to help dogs have the most fun :D thanks for the content!
Great video. I watch a lot of different trainers but you are one of only four I subscribe to. You, Krohn, Cabral, and Gellman. You guys are a cut above the rest. I especially lappreciate the genuine enthusiasm and love you have for the art. It truly is an art. You have taught me a great deal.
Super grateful to have found Michael online early on in my learning and I pray to be able to learn from him face to face one day! My dream is to do his immersion program!
Omg, I can't believe I did not catch this live. I really hope u see this comment. I have watched u and learned from u for a few years now tom. U r one of my favorite dog trainers that I learn from and look up to. However, w that being said Michael ellis is everything I want to b as a dog trainer. He is the reason I got into training, specifically Schutzhund/ ipo and Protection dog training in general, 17 years ago. I would say 80 % of what I know about training, is from him! I just found out a few months ago that u were friends with forrest micke, another trainer I have learned a lot from. I had no idea you learned from Michael. Then to see my notification alert tell me its both of you together, pretty much my idols, I absolutely lost my mind. I'm not trying to sound corny man, I'm just super excited to watch this!!
Tom, what, where can i find good information about reading dogs? Videos, etc... That clearly defines what the dogs are displaying. Great podcast with Michael
I want to get into dog training more officially instead of just helping locals around me but as you both pointed out. It's more training the human than training the dogs.
Been watching Micheal Ellis on Leerburg for more than 10 years...,love this. Been watching you since my agility plans fell thru...need for tips on my current dog a handful..could not believe it when I found this video. Thanks alot Tom! Thinking about a Dogtra......did order the clickit black prong...been using regular but too hard for older hands.
Love this style of video! Michael is so knowledgeable. It's amazing how much you can learn from one authentic exchange. Excited to look into the work of the other trainers mentioned. 🙌
@@tomdavisofficial 100 percent! Dog training is SO kinesthetic/visual: In watching the dog's body language, and in teaching others. Your videos are really hitting the nail on the head as far as visually breaking things down. 👌
Thanks so much Tom! This is a dream come true for me... I am absolutely intrigued by dog training and have been working with the shelter I volunteer at to get a training program going. I'm sure you know how tricky that can be. I think folks might listen to me a little more if I was a professional trainer...
This will be so helpful because I plan to be a dog using in the future. I'm still deciding what methods I like and which ones I don't. You have been so helpful in my process. You're the best!
yes! more of this! These are so great to learn to correct my own training mistakes. I'm really interested in boy language and behavioural insights, have been looking for this kinda stuff for ages. So appreciated
What is good and bad....all depends on the dog but more importantly the human....Love watching these videos by Tom. Too many times I "feel" like I see going to a prong collar. I don't think they are bad, but I would APPRECIATE to see the progression from flat, to martingale, to slip, to prong, to e-collar. Educational and how to progress as a at home (amateur) dog trainer/handler.
I was just certified as a Animal Behaviorlist bout 6 months ago, I've always been really good with dogs recognizing body language and acting in cordinance, it just came natrual but I had no foundation of Knowledge Operant Conditioning, reactivity etc I had no idea So Im stuffing my brain with as much as I can fit, when I watch your vids its like the GIF of Lucy stuffing her face with chocolates.
I gave your TH-cam channel to my niece she has a beautiful black with some tan German Shepherd that she needs to teach her dog social skills. Guinness is very sweet with her children but after watching so many of your videos I feel she would really benefit from you.
Really interesting on how dog training is changing. My concern as the owner of a leash reactive dog, I am wondering how we will be able to expose our dogs to other dogs or people. Trainers have vast resources to help us expose our dogs safely. Again, thank you for all you do for us!
You should do a video on how to approach a new dog . Would be a helpful video for a lot of people. I got a gsd that's super friendly but sometimes she doesnt like it when people rush over to pet her and reach above her head and I gotta tell them to slow down and let the dog come to them
THIS IS NEW FOR ME GUYS IF YOU LIKE IT LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW! 👇🏻👇🏻❤️🙏🏻AND FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM @TOMDAVIS
Michael Ellis is one of the best in the world hands down! Thank you!

I so wish I had done his training school instead of college.
Never too late, lol!!

I got to train with Michael back around 2004 when I was in TX at Triple Crown Dog Academy
Thanks Tom. This was as close to me talking to Michael as I've gotten. Well done again, sir.
PS: AAAAh! Abcpdt... ditto.
Never knew much about Michael Ellis so it was interesting learning more about him.
Agreed, it was awesome! Thanks for watching Ben!
Michael and you rock! ♡
Thanks for this!
Tks 8)
Would say one of the top.trainers in the United States. If you follow leerburg.com there others too.
Notice how now that Micheal Ellis is on he doesn’t he his channel is the coolest, shows he has respect
I listened this this podcast this morning and then came across the video on accident just now. THANK YOU for having this version. There’s a bit more connection and I’m absorbing more information the second time around! 🤘
I love podcasts in video format!! I love podcasts because I like listening long form, but I like watching the interactions!!
Absolutely love the way this was done! Wonderful job as usual Tom, thanks for continuing to do quality work
Very cool!!!! I'm from Santa Rosa and didn't know about this at all~now i do! And i have a new puppy🎉🐾🎉
I'm in the Napa Valley! So glad to know Michael is so close! 😆
I truly enjoy your TH-cam dog training video's!!! You're obviously very well educated in your knowledge of the behaviors of our canine friends...thanks for sharing!
Michael Ellis is so good! You have come so very far!
Thanks Chris! Hope all is well.
Thanks so much Melissa!
Great because this is where I’m at…learning all I can.
Wow. Cool discussion guys. Excellent.
Good advice for any business
Wow!! Great trainer!!! I remember him from Leerburg, but I didn't know that he lives here in my hometown Santa Rosa, Ca!!!! Thanks you.
Brilliant video thank you so much I'm just a pet owner wanting to give my girl the best I can, loved listening to the both of you x
Thank you so much for this! YES! Show me more videos like this! LOVE Michael Ellis, and love your videos
Super grateful to have found Michael online early on in my learning and I pray to be able to learn from him face to face one day! My dream is to do his immersion program!
Thank you Tom for an amaizing podcast.Hugs from Norway to both Michael and you!
Grateful to have these 2 to watch on repeat! Thank you for the invaluable knowledge 🐾❤
Yes I’ve been waiting for this !!
YAY! Thanks for watching Carlos!
you are a great dog trainer you really care about the dogs and their mom and dad!
Love this! My two favorite trainers!
Thank you been pondering a "career" change... or just adding a skill.
thanks for watching! much love!
I really like seeing this kinda format
Thank you
such a great discussion. thank you
Absolutely please do more of these
Thanks for watching Allen!
Love this style of video! Michael is so knowledgeable. It's amazing how much you can learn from one authentic exchange. Excited to look into the work of the other trainers mentioned. 🙌
Yes, that;s what i was looking for, I am so visual myself, I learn best off watching!
@@tomdavisofficial 100 percent! Dog training is SO kinesthetic/visual: In watching the dog's body language, and in teaching others. Your videos are really hitting the nail on the head as far as visually breaking things down. 👌
You guy's are great ty
I hope you will add a visit to Michael On your tour. Santa Rosa is beautiful and I live here 😉
Thanks so much Tom! This is a dream come true for me... I am absolutely intrigued by dog training and have been working with the shelter I volunteer at to get a training program going. I'm sure you know how tricky that can be. I think folks might listen to me a little more if I was a professional trainer...
wow, thank you, so happy for you to watch!
This will be so helpful because I plan to be a dog using in the future. I'm still deciding what methods I like and which ones I don't. You have been so helpful in my process. You're the best!
Glad it was helpful!
Two great trainers!
Omg, i been trying for years to become a trainer and have no idea how to get certified and stuff. This is awesome.
yes! more of this! These are so great to learn to correct my own training mistakes. I'm really interested in boy language and behavioural insights, have been looking for this kinda stuff for ages. So appreciated
Loved listening to both of you bouncing ideas back and forth. Another great video.
I’m so glad I found this video of yours!!! I love you both so much! So much great info and I’m gunna find a daycare to sign up with now!! Lol
Thank You for GREAT GREAT CONTENT!
THANK YOU Romana for watching!
Yes, more!
I watch both of your channels. Great podcast guys
More please! This was great!!!!
Waiting on my Dogtra collars to get here!! So excited! Love the interview banter style videos/podcasts 👌
YESSS thank you for watching!
I was just certified as a Animal Behaviorlist bout 6 months ago, I've always been really good with dogs recognizing body language and acting in cordinance, it just came natrual but I had no foundation of Knowledge Operant Conditioning, reactivity etc I had no idea
So Im stuffing my brain with as much as I can fit, when I watch your vids its like the GIF of Lucy stuffing her face with chocolates.
I got a gsd that's super friendly but sometimes she doesnt like it when people rush over to pet her and reach above her head and I gotta tell them to slow down and let the dog come to them
Ask them to wait till your dog is ready and not to stroke or pat the top of the head. My Collie is a working dog and I rarely let anyone touch her.
More more more!! Love this!!
really loved this! thank you! I have a huge collection of micheal ellis dvds.
a great combo.. i watch you guys both!!! Love dogstra
