The song as everyone has said was a tribute to his son that died at age 4. The video playing while he was singing was a movie called Rush. It was about 2 cops that went undercover and got hooked on heroin. They lost their jobs but at some point she decides to get clean but she still loved him. And she found him overdosed and managed to revive him till she finds him dead in the park. The movie was sad but knowing the meaning of the song was even stronger.

When I got back, they were talking about taking him off life support, which happened that day...I can still feel exactly the same as I did that horrible day, every time I hear this song...my heart aches, and I cry so hard. It grabs at your soul...💔🌹

I really can't get through this song.....I lost my only sibling in July 2020, my younger brother. and I am the only one left of our immediately original family. I was not prepared for this alternate universe where half of my soul memory check system is gone. this song means so much to people who have lost someone close to them like this. I am a full orphan. in our society, a sibling death is the most ignored form of grief...until it happens to you. You sister or brother is your soul keeper, and when one dies they take their share of your soul with him. They don't mean to, but they just do.

He’s known for his guitar work, and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times(two groups, one solo). As he’s gotten older, he’s gravitated away from the driving rock of his youth to more blues-based music.
It’s a good rabbit hole choice, if for nothing else to see the evolution of an artist over the decades he’s been performing.
Not as necessarily something to react to, but after you’ve listened to some of his earlier music, I suggest setting aside a block of time for ‘Eric immersion’ and listening to the 24 Nights album(I prefer the audio-only version. Yes, the same album has two versions), which is a good mix of rock and blues. He does Old Love and Wonderful Tonight back-to-back... 20 minutes of mmm mmm musical goodness. If you continue with Eric, I’m sure you will get plenty of suggestions for those songs. I usually suggest live versions after hearing the studio. Then listen to the Unplugged album.
Come join us in Clapton-land. We think you’ll like it.😁

Eric Clapton approached a crowd that had gathered around the body of his son. Conor had crawled out of the window in his mothers apartment. Eric stated that he looked down and then walked past his son. That lack of emotion in the moment caused him to suffer greatly. God bless Eric and his little son is at peace in heaven.

I saw Eric in MSG in NYC in 2017. When he started this song there was an audible "aww..".in the crowd. I thought it was an odd choice because it's such a sad reminder. Then I was curious how long it had been since Connor passed, well it turned out the concert was on the anniversary of his passing (March 20). Eric didn't say that, he doesn't talk to the crowd at all, he just plays. Makes me wonder if it's not usually in his playlist, he just did on that special day.

This is what music is supposed to do, make you feel.
Music has power and emotions and feelings. It makes you feel funky, happy, sad, laugh, cry.
But it will always make you feel.
Connors passing from Eric was nothing short of horrific. It showed us that, no matter how wealthy or in positions of power people are, they are not free to live a life from sadness and sorrow either.
    Rest In Peace Connor Clapton.

I have a suggestion since you were so impressed by "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Paul Simon wrote a song about drug addiction called "Everything Put Together Falls Apart." It's short but intensely powerful. I think one reason the Simon and Garfunkel version of "Bridge" was so much more emotional than the Elvis version was because Simon wrote it for his wife. BTW, I love your channel.

Eric Clapton is one of the Old Gods of Rock. He's the only 3-time inductee at the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame (as a soloist, and as a member of both Cream and the Yardbirds). anything you listen to by Clapton is going to turn your head, and not all of his music is so sadly-charged.

If you want to hear a song that'll just tear you apart, (yeah, I know. Who wants that? Well, sometimes it's good to remind ourselves that we still have a heart) listen to Janis Ian's "At Seventeen." To me, the most moving song I have ever heard, to date, and I'm 64. I've heard A LOT!..I still tear up with it, 45 yrs. later.
