I think Dan Gilroy’s script is my favorite of the various versions of the script I think the idea of having Superman’s robot nanny/guardian “K” resurrect him, make his powers & costume, and being revealed to contain the life essences of Superman’s dead Kryptonian parents is a very interesting idea

I have my own version of the script. So Superman's life is pretty much perfect, he and Lois are about to get married and even have a kid on the way. Then suddenly brainiac invades earth and demands Superman surrenders himself or he will kill him. Superman then gets the help of Batman and wonder woman to take down brainiac. Brainiac takes a sample of Superman's blood and retreats. Brainiac then creates doomsday on the mothership and after completion the mothership lands on metropolis. The Trinity appears and brainiac realeases doomsday. Wonder woman hits doomsday but she is backhanded and flung halfway to the other side of metropolis. Batman tries to use some kryptonite and stabs doomsday, but it doesn't do anything to him, since brainiac altered Doomsday's blood to be powered up kryptonite and not weakened by it. Batman is then grabbed by doomsday and crashes into a building and passes out. Superman then fights doomsday. the two are evenly matched and incredibly strong, but doomsday keeps getting stronger and eventually pumbles Superman to the ground and mortally wounds him. Superman gets up and punches out Doomsday's heart, killing him. Superman does a victory yell but collapses afterward. Brainiac takes Doomsday's body and retreats again. Batman gets up and sees Lois holding Clark's body and sobbing deeply. Bruce Wayne then holds a funeral for Superman and after everyone pays their respects, even lex luthor, Batman and wonder woman tell everyone to have hope, for even though Superman is dead, the leauge is still active and will help protect metropolis. Supermans body is then thrown to the sun and the leauge take on brainiac and a fully revived Doomsday. Doomsday is still to strong and the leauge loses. Supermans body then absorbs enough solar radiation that he comes back to earth and takes on doomsday. Superman tries to punch Doomsday's heart again but he ends up hurting his hand. Doomsday now can't be killed the same way twice. The two have another epic battle while Batman takes on brainiac in the mothership. After a long fight Superman grabs doomsday and takes him to the sun and eraticates him. Batman deafeats brainiac the mothership is destroyed and Superman lives a happy life with Lois.

My dad was listening to part of that documentary as I was watching it and, not being the comic/animation geek I am, still realized the movie ideas were terrible and didn't capture the essence of Superman. They should get over their animation snobbery and just make a theatrical animated movie. It worked for Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm and plenty of people (myself included) still say it's the best theatrical Batman movie ever made!

As a proper Superman adaptation--and quality of work does not always equal quality of adaptation--I feel it knows nothing about the characters or care and I want a proper Superman adaptation. Then they still sink their money into the 1998 redoing which ends up underperforming, WHEN THEY SPENT MORE ON THAT MOVIE THAN DEBONT WANTED FOR ELLIOT AND ROSSIO'S SCRIPT. I would like to see an episode about the failed Broadway musical of Batman. It is such an interesting idea and there is so much that went into its production that there is an actual cult following that have a dedicated website all about it. I kind of disagree. I still think the 1st Superman movie captured the essence and everything that made Superman great. It told his origin beautifully. Christopher Reeve was the perfect Superman (He'll he was good even in the bad one's). And while yeah I'll agree that the movie has aged I feel like that's just something that in evidently happens to a movie like this. He'll the examples you mentioned Batman(1989), Tmnt(1990), and Spider-Man(2002) also haven't aged perfectly either. They also feel very 80s/early 2000's. But just like the 1st Superman movie they still tell the story and character great.
Huey Woodstock Yes and no. In the shooting script and in a shot scene Zod and his gang are taken to jail. However after Richard Donner got fired, the new directer Dick Lester for some stupid reason dint include it. Making it look like he might of killed him. The Richard Donner cut later on however has him sending him back to the phantom zone.
I thought he just turned Zod and the others over to the authorities. They didn't have their powers, so any man-made prison should've been able to hold them. Anyway, the problem with Superman in movies is that Hollywood doesn't understand the character. Superman is a perfect being living in an imperfect world, which is a very interesting concept when it's done right. He works as a living embodiment of hope because a universe that could create such a physically and morally perfect being can't be all bad. There's something very satisfying about a pure-hearted demigod who just wants to make the world a better place despite all the cynicism and evil around him. That's the angle that Richard Donner took, and that's why his movie is the best Superman movie. And yet, Hollywood seems to think that would be a hard sell. They want to update Superman without realizing that he's a timeless character or that audiences fell in love with him when he was presented as a pure-hearted hero. Every one of their attempts to make a hip, gritty, edgy Superman fail because they don't see that they already have a good thing. Just give us Superman as we know and love him.
This is a great contribution to the legend of this film E-Rod. I agree that Jon Schnepp's doc is the definitive story of this film but I was glad to hear your take on it too :-)

I remember thinking maybe Nic Cage could still work if maybe they made him the older Earth 2 Superman, or Kal- L, instead of Kal-El, who in the comics was sealed away with Lois, Superboy Prime, and Alexander Luthor during Crisis on Infinite Earths. But I'm guessing fans probably wouldn't go for that idea now, despite Brandon Routh getting his second chance as Kingdom Come Superman later in CW Crisis on Infinite Earths, after Superman Returns flopped critically to audiences and critics.

Tim Burton did Batman, was gonna do Superman and later he created his own superhero named Stainboy who appeared in his series of poems called The Melancholy Death Of Oyster Boy And Other Stories and was adapted into his own series of shorts on the internet.

May I recommend the original Scooby Doo script written by Craig Titley in 1996 - which was filed away due to studio politics and replaced by the version written by James Gunn. I read it recently and really thought it was a far better story - although I think it might have made for a better animated film rather than live action - but it could have worked.
Heh well it's taken 20 years but we're finally going to hear Nicolas Cage playing Superman in theaters... because Cage was cast as Clark in Teen Titans Go! To The Movies. Yeahhhhh, not quite the same sort of due as getting Billie Dee Williams back as Two Face in The Lego Batman movie but still happening all the same.
The therapy sessions in the second script could have worked in a TV but not a movie. So yeah I'm gonna disagree with therapy being boring...although the heavenly one would have just been silly. ANd yes the fifth script was the best one. Still I think the Donner Superman movies were the definitive Superman movies at least for me they were.

Maybe you could check out the Spider-Man film that would have been directed by James Cameron and starred Leonardo DiCaprio as Peter Parker.
May I recommend the original Scooby Doo script written by Craig Titley in 1996 - which was filed away due to studio politics and replaced by the version written by James Gunn. I read it recently and really thought it was a far better story - although I think it might have made for a better animated film rather than live action - but it could have worked.

Heh well it's taken 20 years but we're finally going to hear Nicolas Cage playing Superman in theaters... because Cage was cast as Clark in Teen Titans Go! To The Movies. Yeahhhhh, not quite the same sort of due as getting Billie Dee Williams back as Two Face in The Lego Batman movie but still happening all the same.

The therapy sessions in the second script could have worked in a TV but not a movie. So yeah I'm gonna disagree with therapy being boring...although the heavenly one would have just been silly. ANd yes the fifth script was the best one. Still I think the Donner Superman movies were the definitive Superman movies at least for me they were.
