It's like when you hear people at shows talk about "band A", and how it sounds like this obscure band; "band B", their friends nodding in admiration of such erudite display... While I almost pass out from the cringe forcing my eyeballs to roll until im staring at my own silhouette defining the shape of reality... Sorry- tangent. Back here, in my example "Band A" is a 2nd wave black metal band from Norway and "Band B" is a mediocre power-core band from California. The underground music scholar up there in my fictional poser bar thinks both bands are death metal...(growling or screeching or any guttural vocals means it's death metal to him, just like any dark acoustic song, whether outlaw country or a Scandinavian pagan folk song, if performed by a single person singing and playing guitar, will invariably make them quip :"sounds like Death in June!"( they have no other reference, nor an educated enough ear but at least they get to bring up Death in June every fucking time they are at a show, so we can be delighted by his take on "death of the author" and how it is ok to support Nazi Ideologues as long as they play music you like and there is enough ambiguity in their art for you to deny any Nazi nonsense if you find yourself with people that are pretty fucking adamant that Nazis and fascism are, indeed, a fucking blight on society and an embarrassment to Humanity as a whole and that no beautifully dark melancholy songs can absolve an artist , the "author", of being a shitty human being .)
