- The sanctioning of EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu by parliament's ethics committee has drawn mixed reaction. The committee found Sivhambu in breach of the MPs ethics code for his failure to disclose R180,000 he received from his brother's company. The EFF has, however, rejected the decision and threatened to take legal action.
Pauli Van Wyk from Daily Maverick has reported extensively on allegations around the EFF and alleged links to VBS money. She explains.

Journalists are reporters. They are ethically restricted from opening criminal offense against newsmakers. Their mandates revolve around exposing this type of stories so that other authorities follow it up.Whoever feel offended are the ones to take her to court if they believe that her story is false and malicious.... Journalists don't do that they report so that authorities follow up. That's the basic practice in journalism. By the way, the EFF should never expect or call any journalist to give evidence to the police because they are always the first one accusing everyone else exposed in a similar manner. That's not the job of journalists. Educate yourself on the role and where journalists' mandate ends.... where have seen journalists laying criminal offenses against newsmakers? Some of you should learn to inform yourself before jumping to comment on things you are not well educated....The media are called forth estate for being self regulated industry with the mandate to push boundaries in reporting and inform the public, the domain of dealing with criminal case don't belong to them....
you may put it in that way but you should also re-educate your self that here In South Africa, investigative journalists, are like any other citizens, they can provide information or evidence to the police if they have relevant information about a crime or potential wrongdoing. There is no specific law that prohibits investigative journalists from cooperating with law enforcement agencies or sharing information that may be helpful in solving a crime or conducting an investigation .the EFF is in no position of opening cases since the court has declared that there is no such evidence that the stole the money so polly must do the right thing and stop making noise

Pauli is not under obligation to share her evidence to law enforcement unless she's indicted to do so, that's why the media is self regulated industry, hence they're allowed to operate independently without being censored by anyone to do what they want. Investigative journalists only indicted through court to disclose information for purposes of cooperating and allowing authorities to tap into the work of these journalists.
