Chavez said out of his own mouth that Taylor was the toughest fighter he ever fought!!! I'm pretty sure that what monster man was talking about.
Possibly the greatest fighter at 140/147 I've ever seen. He certainly would give Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Marvin Hagler, Flloyd Mayweather, Tommy Hearns, a very hard time. I think he beats sugar ray, hagler, and mayweather without a doubt. I just wish Taylor would've boxed, he was capable of being an invincible boxer but instead wanted to be a brawler. He could've just boxed julio cesar chavez and won the rounds easy without taking damage, guy just had too much fight in him. All the true boxing fans mention him as one of the greatest, just wish he got more credit mainstream (not that boxing is mainstream anymore, though. Its more like a past-time)
Chavez sr is one of favorite boxer, but I agree with you if Taylor could had been unstoppable.. the guy had it all, maybe even to much heart for his own good..
Meldrick Taylor did defeat Chavez no matter if the ref screwed it up for him, but he paid a big price in that fight. Some of you think that Taylor would have gotten hurt if they didn't stop it but it's not true. There's no way in hell Chavez could have landed one more punch on him with a second left in the fight.
Julio Cesar Chavez: Won 6 world titles in three weight divisions First ballot International Boxing Hall of Famer records for most successful consecutive defenses of world titles (27) most title fights (37) most title-fight victories (31) most title defenses won by knockout (21) longest undefeated streak in boxing history(13 yrs) Most consecutive victories without a loss(89-0) ranked #50 on Ring Magazine's list of 100 greatest punchers of all time Named the 6th greatest fighter of the last 50 years by Ring Magazine One of the strongest chins in boxing history Who's this stuttering Meldrick guy? Never heard of him.
Julio Cesar Chavez: First stepped up in class in his 40th fight..... ****FORTIETH FIGHT**** (Against fringe contender named Adriano Arreola) on September 1st, 1983, when he made his American debut on the undercard of the Bobby Chacon & Rafael Limon bout in Sacramento, CA on December 11, 1982. In that bout he fought a club fighter from San Jose, CA named Jerry Lewis with a record of only 10 professional fights and a fighter he already stopped in 5 rounds easy two months prior. It took him a little longer to do the same in the rematch. In his 37th bout he fought a COMPLETE tomato can named Javier Fragoso with a reported record of 0-2-0 on the undercard of the Jose Luis Ramirez & Edwin Rosario bout in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Combine that with 9 so-called fighters with ZERO PROFESSIONAL FIGHTS and it's one of many proofs his record is inflated! I could actually keep going. I tallied up the combined records of the fighters he fought from his pro-debut up until his first title shot, including those 9 fighters with ZERO pro fights..... and it is CLEARLY PADDING A RECORD!!! Julio Cesar Chavez Gonzalez was protected early in his career by his fellow countryman and manager Ramon Felix (Who happened to be on the local Culiacan boxing commission, Chavez's hometown!!!) In his 12th professional fight, he got a first round disqualification loss overturned into a KO win, as The Ring Record Book and Pugilato both have documented this corruption. He was protected by not only his promoter Don King but by another fellow countryman, Jose Suliaman and his wretched WBC organization and he benefitted from it 6 times!!!!! Miguel Ruiz, Rocky Lockridge, Juan LaPorte, Meldrick Taylor, Pernell Whitaker and the rematch with Frankie Randall, where he quit on his stool and the fight was allowed to go to the scorecards. It should have been a TKO (RTD) loss for Chavez, but instead he was given a technical decision. ALL OF THESE FIGHTS WERE GIFTS and four out of those six were with black fighters!!!!! That's what enabled him to have records in consecutive defenses in world titles, wins without a loss, title fights and title victories..... and he STILL doesn't come in first in the longest win streak without a loss in the history of the sport. He was also known to have ducked "Terrible" Terry Norris when that fight was talked about in the early 90's. Who is this Meldrick guy as you ask!!! He the toughest fighter Chavez EVER fought as he said himself!!!
Cesar Gomez Respects to Meldrick Taylor! Not a boxing fan if you don't know him. AND I'M MEXICAN! If anyone needed to dethrone Chavez, I wouldn't of minded if it would of been him.

Chavez landed his bombs all night and Taylor still stayed on his ass like a fly to shit, continued to outscore him and he couldn't win a round to save his life, that's a fact!!! Chavez said out of his own mouth that Taylor was the toughest fighter he ever fought!!! I'm pretty sure that what monster man was talking about.
Thank you and yes that is what i meant
monster man No problem.
Sad to see him like this I went to school with him and his twin brother just made me cry
Is this Angie the nurse?
I Wish Taylor the best!
God bless Meldrick TNT Taylor❤
Xox
If HBO and his commentators had a chance to make him fight jc Chavez again they would do it,regardless of the consequences.
This man was a 2 time world champion
Its more like a past-time)
I know Julio was loseing but 1 distraction can be dangerous
Chavez sr is one of favorite boxer, but I agree with you if Taylor could had been unstoppable.. the guy had it all, maybe even to much heart for his own good..
Nobody 130 to 147 would beat Floyd , cancel that
We will never know about that, there has been a lot of 130 to 147 greats in the history of boxing that never fought Floyd! Styles make fights!!!
+Marcus Horne real talk Floyd is from another cloth 💯
What he say ??
Yes sir, the champ lives AND WILL CONTINUE to live on Marc.
LOVE YOU MELDRICK, GOOD TIMES AT COUSIN RONNIE AND RUBY HOUSE AND AUNT ALICE HOUSE THANKSGIVING DINNERS. FAMILY FOREVER
True Legend!!!
He was already hurt. Refs are supposed to look a a fighter's condition, not the clock.
Wow... unbelievably sad. You're still a champ meldrick 🤛💪
Damn sad to see such a great warrior slurring his words. Respect to you meldrick youll always be a champ
We'll only know when he's gone.
Taylor was never the same physically or mentally after the Chavez fight 🙁
A great Champion with the heart of a lion. Much respect to this man
so sad... such a great champion... he put his life on the line and paid for it dearly.

ranked #50 on Ring Magazine's list of 100 greatest punchers of all time
Named the 6th greatest fighter of the last 50 years by Ring Magazine

Who's this stuttering Meldrick guy? Never heard of him.
Julio Cesar Chavez:
First stepped up in class in his 40th fight.....
Bascorasco - not cool. Taylor is the man. #Respect.
Cesar Gomez I'm not Meldrick but thanks for the love G! ;)
Cesar Gomez Respects to Meldrick Taylor! Not a boxing fan if you don't know him. AND I'M MEXICAN! If anyone needed to dethrone Chavez, I wouldn't of minded if it would of been him.
canibusnj Chavez had an early loss (by dq) that was mysteriously wiped off his record before he moved to the US. But even with that said, the man was a GREAT fighter and denigrating him like you do (obviously because of his bout with Meldrick) makes you look uninformed.
i wish him the best, fast great boxer...
My best Regards and Health To Taylor much Respect ✊🏻 ✊🏾
Slurring and all, he's better off than his teammate, Pernel Whitaker... RIP Champ
