    Totally fell in love with this one. Easy to ride, leans great and plenty of power. Very comfortable as well. I'm 5'9, 140 lbs for reference.

      PeterDad60 it doesn't matter how big your bike is. It's still hard to be seen. And I ride a fatboy with aux headlamps. I still get people pull out in front of me. And it's because they got their phone up the damn side of their heads.

    The headlight is AWESOME! It's mean, looks like if Arnie ran the Fat Boy through the T-1000 in Terminator 2 and something got stuck to the front light. I love that transition between the old and the futuristic

    I've got a 2013 Fatboy with 43,000 miles on it...Runs like a raped ape...I didn't like the changes to this new machine, at first but it's beginning to grow on me...I'm going to test ride the thing before I pass judgment on it...As a long time Harley rider, it's the only FAIR thing to do!

    I generally resist any updates on Harleys. I like the old stuff. At least old now. I have a 2001 Fatboy. I love the Deluxe and softails in general but I am ok with the updates. I may change my mind when I see them in person but I feel it is time to progress a bit and give new riders more of what they are looking for. Not totally, but a little bit. I feel that with this refresh it will revive some of the stale aftermarket stuff you have been seeing for years. Same stuff since the hayday of the OCC and biker buildoff. Nothing is new or fresh. This will open the doors for new and creative items for Harley and the aftermarket. If you want an old style softail, go get one. The market is flooded with them. And the market is becoming stale. Why buy a new bike when it's the same as all the barely rode new ones out there. Give it some time. If they suck, then you can hate on it. I hope the best for Harley.

    • @twiggyb67
      @twiggyb67 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are right. Traditional enthusiasts seem to be shunning the changes in `18....But a lot of them unfortunately are aging and retiring from riding. Harley`s sales have been down for this reason. They have to infuse the new with the old to bring the younger generation into showrooms. I love the 18 Fatboy. I am 55 myself.

    • @toddoverby5538
      @toddoverby5538 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am 47 and have been riding Harleys for 20 years. I hate change but I want to see American motorcycle manufacturing do well. I did not want to see Victory go away either. I will tell you this, I was at Sturgis this year and saw a lot more Indians than I ever thought I would. They're not for me but if everyone rode what I like, I wouldn't like it anymore anyway.

      Like your sentiments guys, and i'm right with you and nearly ready to drop my dime on a 2018 114 FatBoy. I had an '07 96" FB before and a 14 103" switchback in the middle, I think the old looks is cool still, but stale. I'm in two minds on the headlight, but no one else around here has one, so I'll keep it.

  • @ut1004bp

    I will point out to you, since you mentioned it twice about the easy pick up off the side stand, if the tires are low profile (as they are) they tend to do less lean angle on the kick stand.. Tall tires sizes require shorter kickstands (incase you have a flat while parked the bike doesn't fall over).. Nothing magical about the shallow lean angle for it has short or low profile tires, when you lift your weight off the bike the springs raise the angle alittle more. A couple comments on the looks, that clutch cable and The right side passenger foot peg looks totally out of place. I didn't hear a comment on engine buzz/vibration at higher rpms, which is what i'm curious about(?)

    The varied reactions are perfect as H-D desperately needs to get out of its traditional target group and attract themselves to new customers. So if the "old" H-D customers dislike the new models.....many new ones will like them. Target achieved.

      On a $20k + bike at that. I had a 2013 FXDB that I bought brand new, just sold it last week. It was a good bike, never had any issues with it, but the breaks were a joke. And that bike doesn't weigh as much as this one prob does. They (harley) talks a good game of wanting to attract the younger generation, which is fine, but most of them don't have the $18k to plop down on a street bob. Harley is totally out of touch with the pricing of these bikes.

    • @diamonddavemusic
      @diamonddavemusic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was hoping the reviewer might give us some feedback on the braking ability of this 2018 model. I used to ride a 2003 Fatboy and braking was always sketchy! A bike this big should have dual disks up front IMO. I agree.

    • @Dude_Virus
      @Dude_Virus 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, their logic is weird. Streetrod and Roadster get dual disc but all the heavy ones get single.

    • @rcud1
      @rcud1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't need a second front disc, ride one and you'll see. Great brakes. -edit... Compared to the older ones I should say.

    Weird, this used to be my favorite bike. Then this look came out and I didn't like it at all. I got drawn by the road glide ad then POW! The 2018 heritage was it. Now I'm actually, after some time, starting to like it again. The heritage though is beautiful along with the road glide. Still am not shelling out 30k for one so I'll stick to the one I have now.

    interesting fast the FAT BOY was named after the 2 BOMS drooped on Japan in world war 2 the Little Boy and the Fat Man also the badge on the tank is cause the bike is a tribute to VETS so that why they wont change it the holes that were in the wheels on older models were suppose to be bullet holes but in 2018 model they moved the bullet holes to the strip on the tank going to the seat but over all i really like the new look i think its a Awesome bike i have test road one and it was great ok well that is all what up blockhead

  • @grayboo212
    @grayboo212 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    09:51 That’s a Dyna you’re on that is shaking. The engine is rubber mounted which is completely different than a Softail (at least prior to the 2018 models). The Fat Boy you are riding in this video has always had counter balancers, all Softails do. It has nothing to do with the new Milwaukee 8 engine. I’ve been on an 05’ Heritage now for over 10 years. I always get somebody at a gas station telling me that they don’t like Harleys because of the shake at idle. I always say “me neither, that’s why I bought a Softail”. Then they say “but that’s still a Harley so it shakes”. Then I fire it up and ask “what shake”. Sure, there is some vibration but it does not “shake”. Not at all. Sometimes I’m even asked what I did to it to make it not shake. I personally dislike that shaking because it makes my hands fall asleep at stoplights. I’ve test ridden all of the new Glides that now have a counter balancer and, in my opinion, they are leaps and bounds better to ride than previous models. That shaking is mostly gone.

    The new Fat Boy looks kind of like a cross between a Breakout and Suzuki M109. In fact, even the Fatbob is starting to look a bit Japanese. I realize that this has nothing to do with the bike, but I love the beat in the beginning. Was that directly from Chuki's youtube channel, or was it something custom and specific? I've searched high and low, well before the date this video was published, and for the life of me I cannot find it. The man is a machine, and his titles are not exactly easy to index. Thanks much.

    The whole headlight housing needs to go. It’s a vrod fatboy baby and it’s didn’t turn out well imo. The traditional Harley rider isn’t the prime market anymore so a lot of changes are coming I believe. I love road kings but fat boys have always been a close second until this year.

    Save your money and for a few dollars more get a bagger like a Road King, SG or RG, Much better ride on a touring frame.

    question on the fatboy.....the left gas cap is no longer a gas guage ... so is it cosmetic now? or is a, actual gas cap again ???

    Having a mono shock set up is not good for the mechanic or the customer because it's about two hours labor to put a battery in because the mono shock is above it plus you have the battery to buy

    Why do you always tell people to watch out for motorcycles, but then you're running every stop sign you see? lol

    Klingt wie ein umfallender Sack voll Nüsse! ( VW-Käfer mit 1200 Cubic und 34 PS?) Wo, oh Gott, ist der Harley-Davidson-Sound geblieben? Dem Fortschritt geopfert? Doch der lautet doch "eMobility"!

    I was stoked when I saw this bike online - always had a soft spot for the FB model, even though I have preference for HD tourers and own an M8 SG. Dyna's? Have no used for them. Not going to miss them. Thus, I delighted when I heard my local HD Dealer was holding a large 2018 model demo ride, less than a week before I first saw the new FB - so I headed out last Sunday to the ride. Low and behold, the had a 114 M8 FB in the line-up, couldn't contain my excitement. Unfortunately, it was big disappointment. I thought HD would have done a better job engineering the vibration on this thing - it left me with the impression that it would shake itself to pieces after a year of riding. On the upside, the torque was incredible. Opinions on the new line my vary from rider to rider, but IMHO, I wish the bike (FB 114) rode as well as it looked, because it's a horny looking monster. I really was bummed after my time with the new FB.

    Harley-Davidson has come a long way since 2014 and even further with their new motor in 2017 which quite frankly is a motor they should have designed 8 years ago. Now with the new softail line, new lighting, new technology etc etc.
    Why is Harley-Davidson still using a chain primary drive system in lieu of a gear drive primary? That huge chain is something that’s been a maintenance issue along with its chain tentioner for years and then they put a outdated chain system on a new bike and motor.
    Harley-Davidson could should and will go to a gear drive primary and can use the current primary cover for traditional appearance.

    The new lumphead engines. Last few Harley engine designs haven't had nicknames for their rocker covers. This one looks like it has lumps on the covers. Lumpheads. Hmm

    I like Harley motorcycles to a point. I own one myself. I have to say they are now quick enough to have fun on in my day to day ridding. Talking stalk bikes and not v-rod. (prior sport bike rider) but now that Harley has pushed there performance further they need the breaks to match. I test rode a 2018 Street Bob 107 the other day. Where I live the elevation is over 6000 ft. so power performance is hampered and I am not a big guy at 190# although I constantly had the feeling that I had more power than breaking capability. I don't need sport bike level of breaking just breaks to match the bike from factory. I know the buyer can put on a dual front disc setup on the Street Bob but the point is they should not have to. I do realize Harley does have bikes with more breaking power but if Harley is going to compete they need to adapt to the buyers and as there products improve they need to improve the safety as well. I am well aware that there is some guy out there that has a bike that runs 9's on the street that only has a rear break. I don't care. Give me better breaks Harley. Additional notation... The new suspension setup on these bikes is excellent. Good job Harley.

    Don’t worry about scrubbing the floorboards, I ride a fatboy and can counter steer 30 degrees before this happens even when I scrub the bottom of the floorboards nothing happens the bike just keeps cruising through, I had a hard transition from my V65 magma to the fatboy until I learnt how to trail break changed my cornering technique forever 👍🇨🇦

    These HD bikes should be 150-160hp and 140ftlbs for what you have to pay for these ... Should be on par or faster than the Vmax and M109 and others for the crazy prices on these

    I don't like the head light, and I have ALWAYS hated the solid wheels. If that bike had a 7 inch bucket headlight and spoke wheels, or a good looking mag wheel, I would really dig it. I'm old school I guess, I love the DELUXE, I think it's the best looking bike they build now.

    Does anyone know the Horsepower figures on the 107 and 114? I guess I'd like to know say the 0-60mph time of like the 2018 114 Fat Bob vs a modern sport bike like the Z800 or something.
