  • Part two: into the water
Following on from Part 1, we now take to the kayak on Moreton's Leam.
Constructed in 1478-90 by John Morton (Moreton) during his bishopric at Ely, he was later Lord Chancellor and was made a Cardinal.
The leam was cut from Stanground (NGR TL 2080 9735) to Guyhirn (NGR TL 3973 0298). About 1631 it was improved and remade by Cornelius Vermuyden.

Looks like a fantastic paddle! Love the variety of camera angles - very inspiring. I can tell a lot of work went into that and it shows. Great stuff.

Hello there! Love this video! Do you know if you can paddle all the way from Guyhirn to Peterborough?

Hi. Thanks appreciated. Now that’s a question, at the moment no, not easily anyway water level to low in parts and lots of water plants etc.. Giving it thought and if you monitored the area, high water levels then yes as forms part of the wash.
There’d be sections of portaging (Stanground sluice. (Peterborugh embankment to Stanground - Nene - start of Morton leam) plus other sections along the way.. the whole route as I said would really be water level related..
28 secs into this video your see the bridge I went under th-cam.com/video/e6XiKr2oHUA/w-d-xo.html would be an adventure and a half
