Hey man, I've been singing for about 6 years and I'm always on the lookout for new information to improve further and I must say that your teaching style is awesome. Extremely easy to understand and straight to the point!
I wish you all the best my man and hope that your channel blows up fast. :)
Cheers dude, happy to help and thanks so much for the kind words, made me smile!
Really cool video. "It doesn't have to sound impressive" I've been struggling with that for
years, and it's great to hear a great singer/teacher like you saying it. You're not saying it to hide a lack of technic or power etc, but because it's actually common sense, and I believe i'm not the only one who " forgot" that. Thank you.
this is one thing that made me sing much much better, not thinking I have to impress people all the time and realizing just singing in a clean simple way will always suck people in.
You started singing I started crying 😭 I love this song so much and you sounded so good. Hit me right in the feels lol
hah sorry! I really don't want to spoil your make up :D
Love the heart shaped music box at the end.
Thanks for the video Carl. This one like many others gives me inspiration to keep going due to the fact "I get it" . Also thanks for your generosity in sharing. Its a big road ahead for me but I"m hanging in there! Cheers from a former pom in the land down under.
I love this explanation of technique. I always try to get my students to learn how to keep their voices "still" - as in not changing the acoustical space even when the vowel changes, and not changing the compression. Your explanations are truly scientific :D On a side note, you can maintain the acoustical space and compression (holding the voice "still") by adding some more intensity (air plus compression) if you wanted the top of the register to sound more "pressed" (emotionally intense) rather than blended. Obviously this is stylistically and genre determined. For example, Adele's A4sharps and B4s (when she is belting or singing with intensity) are not blended - she maintains the compression and acoustical space but adds air and compression to make them more intense.
It's really a challenge trying to get these ideas out there in a way that anyone can latch onto and understand because this is such basic stuff in a sense, but sadly so easily overlooked by struggling singers once they go down the rabbit hole of technique and all the jargon.
This video was very helpful, thanks! I just did a recording and concentrated on keeping even compression throughout. My singing sounds much better than before!
Brilliant. Thank you Carl.
Wow man, I started getting what singing is about thanks to you. Please keep posting new ones. I have a request for you: Ed Sheeran :-)
The power of nuance.
^truth^
yeah it's all about the simple details
Love your channel. Have you ever checked out andy shauf or sufjan Stevens? Would love to hear you analyze them
Another well explained Lesson! Thank youououou~~~~
Could you do a video about maintaining the compression or keeping vocal chords connected throughout your low and middle range? It’s my main problem in singing.
This is everyones problem to one degree or another when they start lessons, will have a think x
Carl Wehden Thank you so much!
6500 + subscribers congratulations @carlwehden this channel is getting speed but don't forget your old subscribers lolz
na dude I wont forget, hopefully I can continue to grow, would love to get this channel up and rolling properly.
More excellent information Carl, thank you 🎶
cheers Jimmy dude great chat last week
I really love your tshirt
Carl your voice is gorgeous.
These are the true fundamentals of singing. 👌🏾😊
cheers rocachick hope you're well
Also, can you please make one for singing low.
Excellent
cheers!
There's an indie pop/rock band called Hippo Campus that have a really interesting lead singer. In complete contrast to Isakov, he seems to use a lot of different timbre(s?), and I've never really been able to break down what he does to make his voice stand out the way it does. I know you've done videos on a lot of really prominent voices, but I think he'd be interesting to analyze, if you are ever looking for more material haha.
(P.S. great video, I think this is one of my biggest vocal struggles)
cheers dude will check this out now and see if I understand it.
this band is really good dude, cheers
I'm glad you like them, thanks for checking them out!
Could you make a series where we would send you records and you would talk abt whats wrong and what could be improved (like adam neelys how not to suck at music)
yeah I've done some of these before, if you have something for me feel free to drop me an email and I might cover it. carljohnfranz@gmail.com
