I think i'm the modern day wifi version of goldilocks. I live a house that's just a bit too big for one router, yet not big enough to justify the 3 mesh systems sold by others. I feel this would be just the right amount of mesh in my life to enjoy my porridge for breakfast in the mornings...

Bought one of these off amazon the other week and connected it up today.. Amazing difference with the wifi connection in the house now. Considering buying a second for the AIMesh as my room is the furthest away from the modem and eith stone walls I need to leave doors open to get the signal down there.

I had the same dead spot in my new kitchen diner extension. Was getting 110mb download in my living room, but this dropped to 20megabits in the new extension. And lots of buffering. So bought the Power-line plugs to extend my WiFi via the electrical circuitry. One plug connected to my VM router and second one in the extension. Now getting more stable download speeds of just over 50mb/sec download. Upload around 5mb, which is down from max of 6. Still I think Power line is also worth considering and picked up a set of 2 for £40 on amazon.

I changed my Virgin Media Super Hub 3 for an Asus AC3200 and whilst is is a more consistent signal I do not notice a real speed increase for wifi. I was looking at an Asus powerline gadget but it is expensive so I may get a second asus router and try this out. I have quite a large house and the connection is at one end and It is unrealistic to move it to the middle of the house.
The best thing I have found about Asus routers is how intuitive their software is. After struggling with the VM SH3 and not being able to do anything I was so happy when I could actually change settings and it made a difference. Once I split the 3 bands into separate SSIDs everything just worked as it should

Back in the day, my modem had to use the
Dial-up Wide-Area Network Game Operation (DWANGO) service to play DOOM. It was an early online gaming service to play the multiplayer game and was measured in BAUDS!! Ah yes, and we played Duke Nukem too this way!! Kids, you JUST don't understand the way it was back then!! To use the service, we wound have to pay a fee and run the DWANGO client software which would dial into a DWANGO server. Initially, a phone number in Houston, Texas had to be dialed, but soon a number of servers in other cities were also set up. Yes, you DIALED a number to match to another modem on a server! However, DWANGO's dial in approach was soon overshadowed by online multiplayer through the increasingly popular "Internet" and the service ceased operation in October 1998 as our internet (still dial-up, mind you), took off!! BOOM!!!
