36 years on, still my favourite THFC performance - WHAT an evening. Have had the pleasure of getting to know David Pleat over last few years, he rates this as the finest performance of his 1986-87 team, and received handwritten from John Lyall a few days later congratulating him on the match (such a classy gesture).

Was there in the North Stand - can still see the goals happen in my mind - what a great night this was.

From a general point of view too, how times change, biggest crowd of the season for a league cup tie and two full first teams going hell for leather.
Would never happen now. Football was brilliant back then.

@Camden Mario thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

Possibly the best team we had in the 80s? Semis in the lge cup. Final of the fa cup. And think we were runners up in lge that year too? Went down hill a bit after that.

@@simondelaney6483 Doesn't surprise me. Liverpool were the best team of the decade. Even Everton had their best days too as I remember?

@@joebuck8231 Yes Everton were a top team during that era

If Waddle stayed when Lineker signed, I think we would have had a brilliant chance of winning the league.

You look at the two saves that Ray made and have to wonder why it was Peter Shilton rather than him who had played in the World Cup in Mexico. Throughout his time as England manager Bobby Robson’s judgment on keepers appears suspect.

Shilton was crap, the Joe Hart of yesteryear and absolute shite at facing pens.
