    Just got a 198, best shave ever, with sensitive skin. 2 uses so far, very easy to get the hang of it. I noticed the blade tapers from the slant bar, so with a little dexterity it's an adjustable razor w/o the need to adjust it.

    Alright mate!!! (LOL!) Another wonderful video!
    What can I say? Thanks for the acknowledgement at the start! It made my day and really cheered me up.
    I have to say that I'm in constant awe at the speed and dexterity with which you flash the steel around your face and your handling of the Slant is no exception. Astonishing! It just shows me how much I still have to learn but that's all part of the fun!
    From the UK to the USA, my humble thanks and keep up the excellent work my brother.

    Hello Geofatboy, I recently purchased this razor from AMAZON and using it daily with Gillette 7o'clock super platinum blades and I don't feel it an aggressive razor but this me a very nice and close shave, I would say that this is a more efficient razor and I really love to start my day with it.

    Hi Geo, great videos. You and Nick have been my tutors in Wet Shaving. My first shave was fantastic, I got a Merkur 34 HD with Astra Blade. I want to spend more time with it before jumping to the 37C slant. I definitely would love a slant.
    Just one thing, sometimes we the viewers would like to see your face closer when your are done shaving.
    Best regards!

    Have this. This actually feels very good on my face. The hair on my neck is like heavy gauge wire and no matter the direction I go, there is always a little stubble and it's a mess when I wear a dress shirt-lot of red bumps. I use feather blades and that has made a difference but still the neck isn't shaven close enough for non irritated skin from dress shirts. There's an answer just not found it yet. My soap and pre shave oil is D.R. Harris. I use a Omega boar brush and use a ceramic shaving brush. I always use two hot shaving towels, apply the oil, then soap and start shaving. Any suggestions?
    Eventually I will be changing to a Thiers Issard 6/8" full hollow straight razor and then no hair will escape, but until then would like much better results.

      The heat open the porous and the skin became like a orange skin. Plus the heat open the blood vessel and we get more blood volume and more blood near de skin. Then we going to have a rougher and softer skin. The rough skin it more resistance to the blade but at the same time it is softer because of the heat. As a consequence of this, the blade will remove more skin. The heat also caused that more blood to be closer to the skin as well. Avoid the heat it is your first step. If you need any advice reply me. I am here to serve you.

    I just got and used for the first time my Razorock German Slant 37 head with my Merkur 25C long handle. It's much more aggressive than the Merkur 25C head. You have to be super careful with it. I am an experienced wet shaver (20 years).

  • @Chris24436
    @Chris24436 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm making a great update from yesterday. The reason that the with the grain pass was so poor is because I'm an everyday shaver, so my hair was already very short. The merkur blade isn't as bad as I thought. It gave me slightly more burn than the feather did. My problem was with the premo shave cream. It dries very quickly, so you have to constantly re wet it. It's super slick and works very well when you do that. My skin and is quickly adapting and I can shave ATG for the first time in my life. It mows through my armpit and chest hair like butter as well. You won't regret that switch to safety razors.

      +geofatboy I still use it and love it. I won't be going back to cartridge-style razors. Feather's are still my favorite, I always come back to them. I also really like Astra's, and Silver Blue's are good too. Feather's are a mean blade, and I find if I have any skin imperfections like a small bump or anything, I'll nick it, so if my skin is shitty for a few days I'll go with a different blade. I like the 39C as well, and although it is my first and only DE razer, It always does the job and I never felt like trying anything else.

    I own the Merkur 37C, I also own the 39 C "The Sledgehammer", and two of the older Merkur Slants. I will agree that "Slant bar" razors offer a different feel to their shave. I disagree that this is too aggressive for novices. Like in all razors, I urge caution, or she will bite you.! Solution.? Don't be careless.! And, you will be one happy camper if you want close shaves. BTW, I highly recommend Geo's "Icing Down" post shave when you use the "slant Bar". It gets as close as a STRAIGHT razor!

    These vids are excellent. I unfortunately don't have the cash to try every razor on the market so I would like your input on the slant razors. I currently just bought a Merkur Futur and am getting closer shaves than I ever had before, but it's still not perfect. I'm in search of the closest shave possible without having to use a straight razor. Do the slant razors give you a closer/better shave than the standard adjustable DE razors do? Thanks GEO

      The 39C is heavier with a longer heftier handle.
      Just place the razor on the skin, perform the shaving stroke, do not apply added pressure.

    I purchased a 37 a little while ago, much like other guys from a little group of traditional shavers, and I think noone finds this razor agressive. Very efficient, but gentle. It has become one on my 2 most regulars, the other one being a Progress that is much more demanding according to me. I am much more careful with the Progress, that I never used over 3 but still leaves me sometimes with little bloodspots. Anyway, the point is that I do not understand the "bad" reputation of the 38.

    • @borbetomagus
      @borbetomagus 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I started out with a EJ DE 89 and also found it too mild. The Merkur Progress is an excellent adjustable razor that goes from mild to aggressive. Slant razors are worth trying (there are a variety of inexpensive options), but my current favorite is the Mühle R41. Honestly, I don't find it as aggressive as many claim, but it might not be a good idea to jump directly to that razor. Outside of the Merkur Progress, look into buying just razor heads and a good handle (iKon Special Edition, iKon OSS or (my favorite) Maggard MR5 - check lengths).

    I noticed you said newcomers multiple times. I was wondering how long you think it takes for someone to advance past the title of newcomer. I've been using the 34C and like it very much, it's a great beginner razor, although, after 3-4 days, I get to the heavy growth state you were at in the beginning of this video. I want to believe I have used a double edge for a long enough time, about 4 months, to advance to this more aggressive, slant type razor, but I am unsure if 4 months is anywhere close to enough experience with one to progress. Thanks

    I was a little joke, that use the same razor with you is a honor for us. So, if you start to sell, used razor at a reduced price, I'm sure it can find buyers too. This shaving brush is so beautiful).

    This is the smoothest razor I own I do not find it aggressive at all...I think technique is the key.

    The only shaver that allows me to shave against the grain on the middle of my neck and on my chin is the braun series 7. It gives me a shave comparable to an against the grain pass with my merkur slant and even closer on my neck. I must have very coarse hair and an extra sensitive neck.

    • @geofatboy
      @geofatboy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +blah More than likely your angle is not correct and you are irritating your skin. Most people who claim to have "sensitive" skin are doing something wrong in their prep, blade, angle, or other part of their shaving routine.

    • @Chris24436
      @Chris24436 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +geofatboy I've been using cremo shave creme applied with my hands. I'm very new to old school shaving products. A cartridge and canned cream never allowed me to achieve an irritation free shave, which is why I was using the series 7. Wet shaving is more fun and makes my face feel cleaner/fresher.b

    I think this would be the ultimate 'drive by' razor. When you want a DFS in one pass. Some folks say not too aggressive but damn efficient.

    Is there much of a difference between the 37c and the 39c?

    • @knightmare1015
      @knightmare1015 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just the handle. The 39C has a longer and heavier handle.

    And your razor 'eats up' the cream on your neck so cleanly. I find when i stroke my neck some cream is left here and there and so it hasnt been shaved over :(.

      Hello, Ghosh how are you, Ikon slant razor is really costly and 39c is also costly, how ever I purchased this razor in a scheme for about 3200/- rupees and this is not aggressive for me as said in the reviews rather gives me a comfortable shave.

    @geofatboy Not being sarcastic in the least. It really is the truth. Performing a clean shave on four or five days of growth is especially a relaxing and satisfying endeavor. I should also mention that your spacious washroom in the blue hew and slight echo also creates a serene environment. Nobody can mess with you there!

    I don't understand why everyone says this razor is so aggressive. WTG was a complete waste of time for me and even less aggressive than my cheap van der hagen razor. The included merkur blade didn't seem to do so well, so I put in a feather and it did a great job against the grain. The van der hagen shaver and blade made my face look like hamburger meat, but the 39C/feather combo allowed me to shave comfortably against the grain.

    • @geofatboy
      @geofatboy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      So It didn't remove anything on your WTG pass? I wonder why that is?

    • @Chris24436
      @Chris24436 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +geofatboy It did remove hair, but I had a far from smooth shave and visible stubble. It however did great ATG and didn't eat my face up. I think I'll try the muhle r41 for more aggressiveness. Unfortunately I bought the 39C on amazon because I didn't know about your website.

    I'm a beginner and had no problem with it. I think you just need some common sense; don't put any pressure behind it. Saying certain razors should not be used by beginners is said a little too often. This isn't rocket science people. Glad I didn't waste money working my way up to the king.
