    Hi Ted like the corner filter. Putting the glass posts at seven inches. What is the size of the sponge width wise.Tugger

  • @RichsFishes

    great video Ted. Whats the PPI of the foam used for this? And maybe I missed it but whats "TFR"? I've always known these as "HMF" (hamburg matten filters)....or does that term exclude the corner setup like this?

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rich's Fishes The filter in this example is 20 ppi. The 'TFR' is a typo... I need to change it on the title, which I will do.

    Hey Ted, thanks for the great video. The only question i have is how much the filter package cost from Swisstropicals for your 55 Gal? thanks

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gloria Behrens I think that the corner kit for a 55 is about $40. They are prices per inch: www.swisstropicals.com/filtration-shop/cornerfilter-shop/

    Thanks for the lovely video Ted! I plan on doing this for 4 40 gallon breeder tanks. Would you be able to leave a link to the glass rods as well as the filter material? Thanks!

    Would it be o.k. to put the corrugated part of the sponge facing outwards where there would be more surface area for mechanical filtration, or not? I like your precise explanations Ted!!

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes... in fact, that is the way Swisstropicals.com suggests that you do it, but I like the smooth wall look better.

    After looking through all the filters, a half moon version of this has got to be my favorite for my 30g half moon. What is your thickness on that poret? My ht is 27in tall and adding thickness is ungodly expensive more than 3in.

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      3 in is too thick and will not bend well. 1.5" is probably as thick as I would go, but as Stephan at www.swisstropicals.com. He will know the best to use.

    in video where is pump flow the water ?

  • @macg1437
    @macg1437 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So Ted I saw your filtration video also. You dont use an airstone for this do you? How is the line attached to pipe so the water moves so well? I like the room!

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use Jet Lifter tubes that I also get from swisstropicals.com The bottom of the lift tube is perforated with small holes, so it produces small bubbles like an airstone

    Should the glass brace be directly over the marker line? Outside or inside the marker line?

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would put it directly over

    Would a filter like this be suitable for an mbuna cichlid tank? Thanks!

  • @jparks6544
    @jparks6544 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I set up a 8 tank rack with these exact corner matten filters. They've been going for 2 years already - perfect system. It's a great system to use with the high-oxygen nitrate eating bacteria. You can hide the hydroton pebbles behind in the corner pocket.

    did you make the jet lifter?
    what's the next step...did we need air stone in jet lifter?
    can I add bio balls inside there also?

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get the jetlifters from www.SwissTropicals.com. Are you suggesting putting bio-balls behind a matten filter? You can do that, but it is probably not necessary. Maybe put mature, cycled bioballs behind a new matten wall to seed it.

    I dont like air pumps is there a way to use powerheads or equipment of the like?

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can... you can attach a small piece of tubing to the outlet of the powerhead and push it through a slit in the foam wall.

    • @nabaus6170
      @nabaus6170 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ted Judy thanks for the video. If you use power head , isn't the current too much for the bacteria to actually do their jobs ? I heard or read that somewhere and I would like to know your thoughts about it

    How do you clean the sponge without releasing all its trapped in the sponge back into the watter

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lift it out of the water very slowly and carefully. One trick is to lower the water first if you are doing a water change. If the dirt flows out of the sponge very easily, then the pores may be larger than needed. Change to a smaller ppi sponge.

    How thick and wide of foam did you use?

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      2" thick. I do not remember the dimensions. Stephan at www.swisstropicals.com sells them as kits

  • @1deaver
    @1deaver 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    can u talk about a recommended pump size?

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +1deaver Pump size depends upon the size of the tank. More specifically, the depth of the water. The JetLifter lift tubes from Swiss Tropicals require relatively little air to be effective. Look for a pump that will push air the depth of the tank, and it will work.

    Can I try in my 125 gallons with powerful powerhead?

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, these will work with a powerhead, but I believe that the matten filters work better with a Jet-lifter tube driving water over the top of the wall. If you want extra current, us a circulation pump somewhere else in the tank.

    • @lr1902
      @lr1902 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok I understood. But what measurements of the jetlifter tube should I use for a 125 gallons ?

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably 20", but ask Stephan when you contact www.swisstropicals.com . You will want a powerful air pump to be able to push air that deep.

  • @EcSsAwS

    Never understood why a person would pay 50bux for a piece of sponge.. Some pipe. And scrap glass strips
    I made the same thing for around 15$
    And I use pieces of plexiglass

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Because not all foam is created equal... Poret foam will last forever because the material is Is not affected by water at all. Cheaper foams will degrade in water over time, especially acidic water.
