I am so very proud of you Rosie. I started following your blog since you enter the University. I witness all your trials and tribulations during your first year. when you are still struggling to find your footing in the Uni and until now. I felt I travelled this journey with you. Thank you. Your parents must be so proud of you.
Congratulations and well done! It’s an experience you’re never going to forget. BTW back up all your photographs. My graduation got cancelled because of the COVID-19 situation, and all my matriculation photographs are on my phone; somewhere in the cherwell river! Don’t lose yours.
This was very helpful as my Oxford graduation is tomorrow and I’m quite stressed about the whole weird ceremony thing... nice to know no one really knows what’s going on tbh! 😅 sadly i think the weather is going to be the opposite to yours- it’s been nice all week and tomorrow it’s going to rain 😢 so trying to figure out how to incorporate an umbrella into the whole debacle 😆
Congratulations! Yes, we do things a bit differently here in the USA. Generally, at American universities, the president will preside over commencement. The deans approach him/her on stage and declare that all present on the field/grounds are recommended for their respective degrees from their respective schools. Each demographic stands when called, and the president formally declares them graduates of [ABC, XYZ, etc.] degrees. Depending on the university, the individual schools’ graduates then (or previous to the above) attend their specific school graduation ceremony. Here, the dean and perhaps others give a speech; the graduates line up in order; and the school dean reads their names and degrees, honors, and certs as applicable, at which point the graduate crosses the stage, shakes the dean’s hand, receives his/her placeholder diploma, poses for a photograph, and leaves the stage. Long sentence-I know. Loved ones are close in the audience (as opposed to way back in the crowd/stands among tens of thousands at the entire university commencement ceremony). Lastly, we don’t bow, though deans do to the president.
Congratulations on graduating Rosie :) And vlogs like these are inspiring; come and have a go and apply for Oxbridge :) . My daughter who is also state school and watches your vlogs is applying this year for physics at Oxford(she did UNIQ), alongside 4 in her year for history. Well done Rosie :)
Thank you for sharing this, it has helped towards a booklet I am doing on the Oxford hat and its overt meaning. That you had to learn some Latin I found intriguing.
