I appreciate the deck review. First off, Dreadhound is there as a Sry Konrad that won't immediately make you the arch enemy, though with this deck if I was really pushing power level I think Sry Konrad is very scary cause it also triggers on stuff leaving as well. As for power level, I'm probably going for a mid power level. I definitely want to keep this Insect Kindred themed cause that's what I find most cool about Amzu, but I want it to be a competent deck at the same time if that makes sense. Overall, Really appreciate everything you do, and keep up the good work.
Just built and played my first game last week; aimed for mid-tier, figured I could adjust power later on the fly.. here's a few a few things that stuck out to me: 1) Ramp or reliable cost reduction is crucial for a 5cmc commander, Amzu probably wants to etb a turn or two later than your average 5 drop so you have things in the yard to target, but without her this is just basic reanimation/recur. 2) Crawling Infest/sensation and Rutstein do serious WORK in this deck, self mill is the easiest way to keep the graveyard full and see the most of your deck. Amzu pays off when cards leave but adding some payoff for cards entering (via mill or from anywhere) isn't a bad idea, I have Canonized in Blood in mine, but descend in general is a good keyword to try and include.. 3) Cards like Currency Converter operate at a way higher clip in this deck than your typical Aggro red draw/discard/repeat deck. whenever you discard for any reason, you have the option to exile the discarded card- this instantly makes a bug, and if you can do it off turn you can potentially get 4 bugs per cycle, that's a lot of value above expectation, but it gets better. The exiled cards aren't gone forever, you can tap currency converter and put target card exiled with it back into the graveyard any time, free of cost! So if you have reanimation you can refill good targets at will, and in the case of graveyard hate the converter works as a stash spot kinda like foretell for cards in your hand.. on top of all that, you get a 2/2 rogue if yoou put a creature back, or a treasure for land refill if you want to do that! oh and the converter can trigger itself if you pay 2 and tap: draw and discard... seriously seems tailor made for Anzu. anything that rewards you for filling or emptying your graveyard independant of anzu is probably an auto include, even more so if it can trigger itself or other pieces on the battlefield
do you have a decklist anywhere online you’d be willing to share? looking at building Amzu and sounds like you have some great ideas and insights. Thank you!
What if I shuffle my Graveyard into my library would that trigger Amzu??? Like mill 20 cards ohh I milled ulamog I am going to shuffle my Graveyard back into my library that's insects leaving the Graveyard right???
Cutting hornets nest is crazy. It might as well be a ghostly prison at times, completely deterring someone from attacking you
