Hi. This was my deck. Thanks so much for the review! Again, this deck is primarily to be played in a duel commander format where starting life total for both players is only 20 life. A couple of points here: 1) I kept the damage doublers/triplers/the X+1 damage cards in there to increase the chances of flipping Ojer back out from under the land 2) End the Festivities would deal Ojer's power in non-combat damage to each player and it would only deal 1 damage to each creature and planeswalker. Hence, why I keep the damage doublers. Although, as you have pointed out, this card alone can bring Ojer back out from under the land. 3) Flame Fusillade can turn my entire board into player pingers, if i have no other options available. There are several creatures in the deck that do not have "tap to ping" abilities. 4) Don't know why i didn't think about Lightning Greaves though. I can always move the greaves off Ojer to put an Aura on it then move the greaves back. Appreciate the feedback in the comments as well! Ok finally got around to the second listen through so here's my more in depth reply! Cleansing Nova-is mostly a meta call as both artifacts and enchantments are very common in my meta. I just really like the flexibility of the card overall although it could be more efficient. The Indomitable-is in to provide diversity for my "coastal piracy" effects however it will be getting replaced by Enduring Curiosity from duskmorn. But I will agree artifacts are more susceptible to removal. (And Enduring Curiosity is on a creature so that's nice like you said.) The Troll and Eagle were tested and I just couldn't get them going the way I wanted. However that was before I upgraded the mana base so I'm gonna put them back in the consider pile to test out. Selfless Samurai- definitely agree on cutting this, if I can track down a frog this will be the swap for sure. Guardian of Faith- is just a Meta call, winds of abandon, Farewell, cyc Rift etc.. are all fairly popular at my lgs so its a way for me to save my stuff from them. Selfless Glyphweaver- is kinda a pet card that I also thought was iffy at first but it's actually been surprisingly clutch. The secret of the card is its a board wipe to recur with Ravos which is inefficient but has actually come up a few times. Serra's Emissary- like you said in your analysis is I literally just plan to play it fairly lol Its kinda my "Craterhoof" effect where I slam it and will either win or be able to kill at least 2 players. (And ngl funny to clone) Frog- I for sure want to try that's a great shout now just gotta find someone to trade with. Invasion- has been on my consider list as well just haven't pulled the trigger glad to have you reaffirm that it deserves a try! Oversold- is another one I tried but never quite worked out which is bummer because I've been trying to make it work for a while. Like it feels like it should be really good but it was just a dud for me in testing. Ripples- kinda slipped past me ngl so thanks for bringing that one up will be picking up a copy to test out! Tortured Existence- ANOTHER pet card of mine own like 5 copies (TE is my favorite pauper deck even tho it's kinda fallen out of favor last few years) basically like you said the only thing that really keeps it out of the deck is the heavy black mana requirement. I've played this in the past in my Meren Dredge deck and it's an absolute house. It's also funny you chose Victimize because that card sits in the deck box for this to remind me I should probably be playing it lol And Mockingbird will 1000% be going in I just thought it was more expensive than it was thank you for the reminder on that one excellent suggestion! The deck is for sure a blast to play! And it's definitely deceptively strong ya it only has 1 gameplan to attack it is very good at protecting that gameplan (also why I don't mind playing the higher power interaction which both actually saved my butt today lol) also just another small note on an experiment I'm trying with this deck that's worked well so far is I just ended up cutting all the mana rocks in favor of getting on the board faster with cheap dudes and it's worked pretty well actually. Overall great review my friend thank you for being awesome.

Gotta love commanders like this where how you wanna build the deck is not obvious! Have you done any of your own deck reveals on your channel? Btw I ended up cutting Shelob and Slimefoot from my Hazel of the rootbloom deck, idk if you wanna make a note on the submission but I think I said I wanted them in my requirements and shelob at least is not gonna happen. Too cute :/ too dead in hand! I’ll just get my shelob fix in brawl!

Love the idea of elesh norn and life and limb combo, but a far more efficient land lock that is only 2 pieces is Elesh Norn and Nature's Revolt, no yavimaya required

So, as with always with this, I have a lot of other cards to talk about. All of these are in the Ultrabudget realm, and I have divided them into a couple categories that group together well Common Spell effects randomly on artifacts in this set, so artifacts decks should remember they exist Saheeli's Lattice - It's a Tormenting Voice that's an artifact Visage of Dread - Hand attack in general is a little expensive so this is a cheap bit of hand attack that is also an artifact Spring-Loaded Sawblades - an white damage spell that is also a random artifact. Also the backside is a solid Vehicle for Vehicle decks Unstable Glyphbridge - Wrath everything but a single 2 power or less creature for each player on an artifact is a solid option. The Craft side is also a real annoying stax piece on the other side. How is this card only 20 cents Dusk Rose Reliquary - This one is a little less obviously equitable than some of the others, but I like this as a removal option in artifact decks Other interesting Artifacts, cause this set is full of them Altar of the Wretched (C) - This is just a really interesting effect in general, and the fact it is in an artifact, a deck that may want to convert some of it giant scaling threats into card advantage since they don't have evasion The Grim Captain's Locker (C) - consistent Surveil as well as the reanimation mode is super interesting. Dowsing Device - A haste enabler on an artifact that turns into a land is real interesting, this card can go off. Braided Net - A good control tool that also stops activated abilities, the front side is already interesting, but if you have a good density of artifacts, the back side can be a massive draw in the later game Tarrian's Journal - This is held back by the sorcery speed restriction, but it turning into a land that can allow you to play creatures from the graveyard is such a tool lategame along with being an interesting card advantage engine in an aristocrats shell. Fabrication Foundry - This is a 2 mana color rock for artifacts. That alone is real interesting in any deck that has an artifact commander, but the activated ability to reborn key artifacts is real solid. Tetzin, Gnome Champion - I like this a whole lot as a double faced focused commander, and they are super super cheap. Think this is the coolest commander option you didn't mention Caves Discover Caves - There is enough stuff that cares about you casting not from your hand, that these end up being interesting options for cheaper landbase that still does stuff Promising Vein - An Evolving Wilds variant that is also produces colorless if that is either important to your gameplan or in the lategame where color doesn't matter as much. It's an interesting option Pit of Offerings - Selective graveyard hate that also allows you to get out of identity color production for not much money is interesting, especially if you are playing a theft deck and wants to activate some activated abilities. Even without that utility, I think this as a graveyard hate land in non-black decks has some legs

Proxy before you commit to buying anything. Nobody will want to play with a Tiny Bones deck, unless your pod has silly "cancer deck" games, like mine does.

ngl I got most of these cards, just need some fetchlands and obv manacrypt. I might not proxy manacrypt so I dont get side eyes in casual tables. But after doing most of these changes, The deck runs like a dream, I had alot more high cost vampires, but you were so right about lowering the mana curve. Can I ask your thoughts on Bolas citadel in this deck?

One-shot overrun effects are wasted in this deck. So is Elesh Norn. One-trick pony, casting cost is too high. Most important: establish board, create asymmetry, drop Kudo. Every time. That's his gig. Protect him, protect the boardstate.

Nice tier list ! My problem is prossh... This guy is a insane aristocrat commander ! Yes the combo version is better, but creating 6 token and beig able to sac it right away is insane. Combine this with a Mirkwood bat and you have one of the best aristocrat in the game. You should also look at Sauron, an other pretty powerfull aristocrat commander. Cheers !

I play with this commander a lot so I figured I’d give some comments. I think Arid Archway or any other bounce land is another good way of bringing back Ojer when he transforms. If you tap him for red mana then play the arid archway, you’ll have gotten the red mana from his land and then returned him back to your hand at which point you can cast him for his regular cost. I also would disagree with the presence of Cinder Pyromancer, Unruly Catapult, Guttersnipe, and Arcane teachings. I think at 3 mana they’r just a worse rate for effects you can get off of 2 mana creatures like firebrand archer, Thermo alchemist, kessig flamebreather, etc. For that reason I would actually reccomend Coruscation Mage from Bloomburrow which is a considerably better effect for less mana and you have the option of paying for its offspring cost. Idr if this was touched on in the video but I think Tunneling Geopede and Impact Tremors are also not great here. They’re just too fair. You aren’t playing so many creatures or lands in a turn that you’ll consistently get several triggers off of these for them to be like very consistent pieces in every game. I think the most you’ll get off of them is like 1 or 2 in a turn which is just not enough even with Ojer out. I also disagree with Solphim and Torbran here. Yes, they are decent alternatives to Ojer, but they do not combo with Ojer because your opponent can decide the order in which their effects apply. So when things are going well, they are dead cards in hand which mono red really doesn’t want, but then if you’re playing against opponents who will bully Ojer out of the game, they’ll also likely just remove torbran and solphim too so in either case I really don’t see them working here. Last thing is that I don’t think I really like immolation shaman and harsh mentor in this deck. There are considerably better and more applicable stax pieces that this deck can get much more frequent and consistent triggers off of and depending on the pod you’re in I’ve had this card come down and be totally dead on the board because the most common activated abilities that you run into in commander in my experience are mana abilities. There are a lot of common decklists for this commander out there so I won’t give suggestions but one card that I think is kind of fun and spicy is ghost fire slice. When this card isn’t turned on it’s like actually really bad because it’s 3 mana for an effect you can get for 1, but when its cost reduction effect is available, it basically becomes lightning bolt that does 4 instead of 3 which is relevant because Ojer doesn’t buff damage dealt to anything other than players so if somebody has a really annoying creature or planeswalker on the board having cards that do more than just 1 damage is relevant and important. I also think in commander where the format is warped around multicolored permanents its cost reduction effect is active more often than not.

Thank you for the episode, I am satisfied with the review. This is exactly why I sent it to you, I knew there was mechanics and cards that would be super good that I just missed because there is just so much this deck could be with the restriction. Evoke was an entire mechanic I missed that I will have to dig through. Now to specific card discussions. Hex is in there cause it's a meme in my playgroup. I understand it's bad, but it's a thing that get the entire table laughing when it's cast, so it's in here for that value. The bounce spells I like in there as much as protection for my commander as interaction. I wanted ways to keep my commander alive, and these seemed like solid options since most of the normal protection stuff are really cheap for obvious reasons, so there aren't many conventional options at high mana value. I def think I will go with the battle, but with how low on basic my current landbase is, I don't want too many effects that search just basics cause they will rapidly run out of targets. I would have to rejigger the entire landbase if I wanted to have more of those. I completely missed the Saga which is a great shout, and that reminded me, I could probably play Culling Ritual in this deck and it would be pretty dang good. Overall great review, got what I was looking for out of it so thank you.

I really like the punishing enchantments aspect, or basically anything other than the typical eldrazi+reanimator. Feels a lot more on-brand for a villainous weasel to put people in binds with Painful Quandry than just killing them outright. I'm always looking to pack the surveil lands these days, in addition to your Temples in deck that care about the top of the library. The Rowan backup plan is interesting because I expect Cruelclaw will be killed pretty frequently, so the double-commander aspect is neat. Though with Rowan in particular, I'd be interested to see how long it takes her on average to find, set up and profit off of, at least compared to a dedicated Rowan deck. Lots of cool ideas in this one, I hope it finds the sweet spot in power level, and hopefully doesn't get aggro'd out because of his reputation

This video is really interesting to me because I have also been building a very different Cruelclaw deck (I've been working on a Madness version) and I think there are a lot of really interesting choices that you went for, some of which I have brought over to my deck. That said, there were a couple of cards that I think are really really good in Cruleclaw you didn't touch. 1. Insatiable Avarice - I know this is kind of a terrible Cruelclaw hit, but it's another top of deck tutor that can also function as a tripple black draw 3. I like the flexibility, especially when the top of the deck matters so much 2. Valki - This is very much in the realm of virtue of persistence where if you hit if off of Cruelclaw you can cast the big side for free (I still think this work, and I found no ruling disproving it, but this is the interaction I am least sure on right now). If you draw it though, it can be hand attack which is a nice balance. 3. Discard value engines - This is a class of card you didn't touch at all, but with how consistently you should be able to discard a card, things like Veronica, Dissident Scribe, Inti, Seneschal of the Sun, Hostile Investigator and especially Bone Miser become real solid includes. 4. Emrakul, the World Anew - getting this free of the top of your library with the cast trigger cause Cruelclaw casts, or madnessing it out, this card can be scary. I honestly think there might be an Eldrazi version of this deck since you do get all the on cast triggers. I will admit that Emrakul requires some landbase consessions that this deck might not want to be making to be able to have 6 colorless, but it's a real powerful option

Thank you so much for covering my deck I didn't realize you covered it! The advice is greatly appreciated and I'm still tinkering with it. I started a different idea using food tokens as a storage system for life and can pop them to get some beefy things from the grave. When I get it tidied up I'll post an updated link in the comments. Noticed in the lands that hammerheim(Redoras, capital of Rohan) was not in there would be a nice addition to the legendary lands and a nice legendary artifact might be worth including is bident of thassa whenever your creatures deal damage you may draw a card

One of the reasons I love magic is that I just built a Muldrotha deck and it is completely different than how this one works.

This deck has gotten a lot of help from the new commander cards in MH3. I’ve started piloting a build of the deck today and it’s pretty feasible to copy basilisk gate and go in for a kill with keene alone. The deck does seem to struggle early so the no mercy/propaganda package may be a necessity.

This commander is not hard to make an 8-9. Iv seen it done a bunch, but everyone basically runs the same list

I like the cuts that were made. I've been trying to crack this deck for a wee while now. Aristocrats is definitely the one that gets Orah over the line. The life gain theme is nice, but how often are we going to aetherflux bomb a player, then children of korlis the 50 life back and bomb someone else out.

The only rock you really need in every single deck is Sol Ring 😀

Honestly the fact that you said Life Insurance isn't a good card in Orah tells me that you've never played the deck. Life Insurance is straight up a wincon in Orah and if you'd ever played it you'd know that. Do you not goldfish with a deck before you start suggesting things to cut?

I agree that my curve is very 4 heavy and the nev disk is only good with avacyn and teferis protection and otherwise not that good. I would have loved if you noticed the doubkestrike synergies more like Malcolm/medomai/the key to the vault double trigges or commander damage wincon with Excalibur But maybe that is not good enough to keep it around. What do you think? And yes helm is pretty clunky when played for 9 mana. Thank you so much for your time. And i highly recommended everyone else to send you lists too!

I am very satisfied! Thank you again! I love the time you take to just talk through your thought process. 12 mins in right now and yeah I think the “best”(optimized) version of this deck lies with temur. Either with clara or susan foreman. Upkeep cards are generally really expensive. So having ramp to enable them is huge. Also just a lot of good upkeep payoffs compared to white. But I really like Assemble the Legion :p 23 mins: yeah this deck turned into a mess through multiple iterations which led to things like cancel over counterspell. The tutor and swan song were definitely added with the thoughts you had in mind and yeah overall this decks powerlevel just seems hard to nail down. I think the fundamental strategy in the way I was doing it was far too unstable and that led me to believe shutting down the board or major game enders until I could do something would be the play. But generally that just makes people want to immediately target the big stuff you play. Also one of the first games I played with it I got cathars crusade, impact tremors, and court of vantress out and thought it was too highpowered so think i just took them out to early! Also idk how Outlaws Merriment wasnt in the deck lol dont remember taking it out! Im surprised at these upkeep cards because I feel like I scoured “ci:WUR o:upkeep” lmfao! Overall, definitely planning to make these changes! I already followed your advice for my 2nd doctor deck and while it was a sample size of one the game it actually felt how I imagined the deck going. Still some changes I think I need to make(I end up actually not having many cards in hand most games, which seems antithetical) also need to add back stuff like viseling, because forced fruition kind of lost me the game versus my friends new ezio deck. I think I will focus much more on a realistic build of this deck rather than IMO what was a bit glass cannony. A larger focus on enchantments and less but more impactful bridge creatures to get me to the later stages? Some questions! Should I throw in that talismans and maybe wayfarers bauble? Was a little unclear if you thought I should add more or if current amount was good enough. I think the Generous Plunderer makes me want to go in a more treasure focused direction to support the big costs too. No dockside I promise 😂 Also curious what you would do companion wise personally? I saw one person ran Vislor Turlough for black, susan foreman for green is common, or just clara for any. Tegan Jovanka is an option for white! Also do you think there is a way to make The Fifth Doctor + Susan Foreman interesting? Thats one combo Im looking at but I think it will just end up being mana dork spam and kind of functionality act like elfball? I’ll probably think of more later, but for now getting ready to play some more magic tonight with friends! Once again thank you so much for all of your insight and knowledge, Ive learned a ton!
