As an installer I'll never forget how happy this elderly couple was after 23 year without internet because other companies thought they were too far. I ran a 1,500 ft long fiber wire to their house without knowing it had beed the first time they had internet at heir particular home. They treated me like a god after I was done. It felt good.

I’d love to see a video of tech recommendations for people just getting fiber. My parents will be getting it soon and have been using satellite internet (literally the only option where they live) for years, so they don’t know anything about streaming, smart home items, what an Apple TV is, etc.

Getting fiber optic in July unfortunately it’s data limited or something and planning on just getting 300mb was wanted 500 package but I kinda unsure how much data cap is taken if I download or update a game that’s 50 to 100gb. Anyone know? Or can explain since I usually game most of the time.

Hey Chris - wasn’t there a longer video where you went more into detail? And talked about your Orbi setup? I was hoping to rewatch. I’m thinking about upgrading to gig internet and that video was pretty thorough.
Edit - I totally missed your beginning intro saying there was a longer video... LOL. I can’t seem to hit the link though?

Hi I have a question about upload speeds. My cable provider just upgraded their offerings and I have a couple of options. I live by my self but I love making videos. The two new options are up to 600 down/ 30 up or 940 down/ and 50 up. It's $5/month more to upgrade to the 600 plan or $15 more per month to upgrade to the 940 plan. So $85/ month for the fastest plan. I would like everyone's opinion if it's worth the top upgrade. Thank you!

Gigabit doesn't have to be Fiber it can be cable as well... The only down side with cable is that the download doesn't match the up load with most providers... I think only Verizon has it...
Although I've heard other providers like spectrum say they are working on it and should have matching up and down service by 2025... in all areas...

If people could see how they use the internet, they'd realize they were oversubscribing. As far as symmetrical cable, it is delayed for a few reasons. One is that the cable network has old frequency based equipment on it AND IP traffic. To flip the switch to pure IP would cut off all the old equipment, watched and used by older people who pay a lot of money.
$200 per home passed for 4/4 gig cable is cheap. $1200 to $1400 per home passed for a new fibre install. If the latency is the same, and you don't need 10gigabit, and the pricing is in line, then fibre brings nothing.
Before you naysayers pile on. I actually work on a near state of the art cable system and a state of the art XGSPON overbuild so the customer has choice. No mass stampede. Nobody cares. Maybe 2 out of every 100 people switch. Average download speed selected is 150mbs for cable. Those that switch to fiber use 500mbs/500mbs. No BS or hope, that is what is happening.

I have Spectrum. I get symmetrical speeds. WiFi is like around 550 down 800Mbps up (for whatever reason my upload speed is better than download and I am NOT complaining) When wired it goes to 950Mbps download and 950Mbps upload on an older Windows 10 PC running a ft Ethernet Cat6 cable. I think most people who get the 1Gig whether its Fiber or Spectrum don’t really understand that you probably won’t get that 1 GIG on WiFi and if you have older devices the chances are even less in your favor. But running wired on a 5-6 year old gaming PC will be insanely fast.
