David Duckham was the Rolls-Royce of english rugby at the time -although his breathtaking acceleration at 3.31 was faster than a Ferrari. Such a shame he only ever played in mediocre english that never allowed him to blossom fully on the international stage.
I grew up in Wales watching local and provincial rugby. Actually played for my school and the local team. I was living in New Zealand when the game turned pro. That's when I saw Rugby players turn into real athletes. The game became so fast and so much more competitive. I can't speak for other major rugby nations , but if you want to see a high standard of rugby, go any where in New Zealand. Even from school boy level and up. I've never seen any thing like it. It is exciting stuff.
This try is considered by many to be the greatest try ever scored and they certainly were not athletes back then compared to players in the modern game. What I'm getting at is you need more than just physical fitness (if you are after that just go watch Rugby League) to produce magic like this try. I'm talking about guile, and a pure god given gift that cant be taught or learnt.
Yes. 2.15, 3.25, 7.50. Three times. Sublime running. He didn't score, but I thought he was man of the match. Haven't really seen a pure running performance like it since, apart maybe from Lomu (whose size was a factor). Maybe Andy Irvine or Serge Blanco. Or Liam Williams starting the first try in the Lions first test against the All Blacks in 2017.
espectacular. . no hay palabras para describir este añorado rugby. La forma de amacarse con natural plasticidad de los tres cuartos al pasar la pelota , ya no se vé mas
Thinking about it this team was the equivalent of the 1970 Brazilian football team just talented individuals put together to make a Harlem Globetrotters moment !!!
David duckham was without the key player in attack that day, his runs were mesmerising to say the least, most of them ended with a try being scored that day
jesus, I'm watching Wales x france and the brazilian comentator talked about this try... it seems wales was unbeatable for more than a decade, now I know why.
What a back line that was, they tore the Blacks apart, match sewn up by half-time. The Baa Baas pack had at least 3 players not even good enough for their countries. Just as well for the Blacks that Gerald Davies and Mervyn Davies weren't playing as well.
David Duckham in full flight - one of the greatest sights in the history of the game. RIP.
i was lucky enough to be at the game
Anybody get goosebumps at that try ? Love it

The most beautiful game.
Hell of a match..RIP Ducks, and all who have sadly passed..England 😥
David Duckham - legend. RIP
David was I believe England’s equivalent of Phil Bennett
each and every player on that field are legendary

Brilliant! Oh that's brilliant!
Apart from the feeble Haka, quite simply THE greatest Rugby Union matche EVER. JPR Williams must have the strongest neck ever
David Duckham Awsome
On this day we had the news of David’s death. RIP DAVID 🙏🙏
I could watch David Duckham run with the ball allday long; like watching Gale Sayers.
One of the all time greats of rugby a World Class winger , I just wished he was Welsh, I think we adopted him.

Fantastic!!!

This match should be compulsory viewing for all rugby schools!
Hats off to Dai Duckam.
Note the head high tackle by number 14 for New Zealand. A great first try saved by Quinell and finished off by Edwards hitting the line at pace.

Funny to see Mervyn Davies attempting to chip ahead like a center.
what a team full of billy slaters

i know the trys tack all the plaudits but David Duckham running at the all blacks threw a dummy that even had the camera man lost lol
the haka's not what it used to be, is it?
hahahah dang! that haka surely has come a loooooong way.
Duckham at about the 2:30 mark...wow
0:17 this is my favorite part
David Duckham was class. If only he been Welsh!!
Forward pass 1:09. Doesn't take away from the excellence of the match though!
shows lack of discipline under fire.
There was at least one forward pass.
The bench mark game, never equaled
Powderpuff haka!
The haka was just comical!
really makes this 'Superbowl' look like the complete nonsense it is. Even Rugby League is better.
