  • When I was practicing this song the other night, I decided it would be good to film it to spot areas of improvement. I still have some tightening up to do, but hopefully you enjoy the play through!

    This is honestly insanely skilled work. Instead of sacrificing the groove for speed, he actually balances both, and it’s expression emphasized with technical skill.

      Thank you so much! I didn’t work on a ton of new content with them, but I’m happy to have collaborated on this one. Sometimes it’s nice to just settle into a groove, which is why the hi hat count is only quarter notes underneath instead of eighth notes in the first verse. It’s a fun song to play with a good mix of parts!

    Sophisticated simplicity, intertwined. The end really really nails it, with Courtney's vocs. My favorite song - maybe best 100!

      @ryanloerke981  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      joshua it’s an 17” AA Holy China over top of a 18” AAX Aero Crash. I like using the hi-hat adapter since it gets me a little better control of what tension I want. I also like having one brilliant cymbal and one natural. If I want a little more articulation, I put the Aero crash on top. If I want the stack to be “softer”, I put the Holy China on top. Hope that helps!

    Hi Ryan. Hope you're well. What specific Yamaha kit are you playing, and what do you use the effects unit on the left for? I've been playing around with drum samples for years and lately I find myself gravitating more towards Yamaha kits for whatever reason. And are those hhx click hats?

    • @ryanloerke981

      Aaron Loves Gear hi Aaron! In this video I’m using my Yamaha Recording Custom kit, 12/13/16/22. The snare is a 14x6.5 Yamaha Mike Bordin Signature. I’ve recording through a Yamaha EAD10 and using the Arena Reverb setting, with no sampling. And correct, they are HHX click hats! Let me know if you have any other questions!

    So, I'm a total novice. When you said you "still have some tightening up to do" - what specifically were you looking for? I've started recording my own practice sessions, but I don't have any formal teaching, so I don't really know what I should be looking for to improve on =[

    • @ryanloerke981
      @ryanloerke981  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      matt good for you Matt! Honestly it’s a great way to go back and check on timing, consistency and technique - especially if you are playing to a metronome. For me, I’d like to improve on a few of the fills, consistency/accuracy of my hi hat counting in that off time stack part in the first verse, and just overall fluidity. I like being picky with my playing so I don’t get complacent!

    • @ryanloerke981
      @ryanloerke981  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      p00p5utt this was a joint effort! Michael presented the original off stack idea, and I changed how it repeats, tweaked the kick pattern, and added in the hi hat count. Aside from that, I just modified parts so it was a little more “me” sounding. It’s great having him show me what he’s thinking since he’s a great drummer, as it allows me to have a starting point to work off of!
