As somebody who lives as authentically as possible, I love all of this. I do feel though that being authentic doesn’t necessarily mean speaking your heart & mind freely. Being authentic also means being aware if your words are formed from fear or love and how those words may impact those around you. Knowing when to speak your heart & mind is part of being authentic.

When I was going through my divorce, I was strongly moved to take back my "birth name". Many expressed, "Oh, you mean your maiden name." With kindness, I corrected them, by saying I am taking my identity and my truth back, which is my birth name. Once legally changed, I felt empowered again, by standing in my authentic truth. That was the 1st step, which was very liberating❤.

Good topic!!! As a former "weird" child and now a (as adults politely call it) "artsy" adult, I keep noticing that even if people have an initial negative reaction or comment to your authentic presentation of yourself or your taste/style, 90% of the time they adjust and accept it pretty quickly especially if you are matter of fact about it and not defensive.

Totally and theres nothing weirder than if you try to pretend to be normal. Like an alien in a humann skin lol! Doesnt work just makes it weirder. Best to be honest and then if people dont like you youre not stuck with them for too long pretending to be a normal😂

Truth! It took me 34 years to realize just being my weird self is easy for a reason, because it’s me! Trying to appease others’ ideas of me was exhausting and not very fulfilling- plus none of those people are around. All the folks that have known the real me throughout my life are still here anddd I have WAY better connections with the folks I let to get to know my artsy, hardworking, science/spiritual-brained, goofy, loving, REAL self 😊😊

0:11: 😌 Becoming your most authentic self is about not censoring yourself and choosing to be true to who you are.
5:58: 🔑 Authenticity is about accepting and embracing yourself for who you are, and giving yourself permission to be that authentic version of yourself in the world.
12:39: 💪 Standing in your power and embracing authenticity and belonging is a journey that requires self-reflection and self-awareness.
19:30: 💡 Belonging is the feeling of being honored and accepted for who you are, while fitting in involves suppressing authenticity to avoid judgment and bias.
24:56: 🔑 Belonging is characterized by a sense of calm and absence of anxiety or activation.
30:52: 💡 When we feel judged, our body goes into activation mode, generating energy that needs to be released.
36:43: 💪 To navigate difficult conversations or situations, it is important to script out what you will say in advance, choose affirmations or self-coaching statements, practice calming techniques like deep breathing, and visualize yourself using these tools.
41:46: ✨ By rehearsing and visualizing different scenarios, we can stand in our power and express our truth authentically.
48:43: ✨ There are three versions of ourselves: the authentic self, the performing self, and the adapted self.
54:37: ✨ Adapting behavior is a choice that can be empowering and realistic, but it should feel good and meet the needs of both oneself and others.
1:00:39: ❤ Mel expresses gratitude and excitement for supporting X's book and shares love and belief in X's abilities.

I believe the reason why this is so difficult for so many people is because starting at a very young age, we are taught to be "the best", instead of "be your best self" or "do your best". The behaviors that are modeled for us and the messaging we get from our caregivers, from our teachers, from our community, from social media, etc., actually sends us away from our true selves rather than toward it. If we can't figure out how to be the best then we end up feeling like we aren't enough. The truth is we are enough. We always were enough. It's not our job to fit in. It's not our job to live up to other people's expectations. We just have to be our best selves. That's it. If we can embrace that truth and truly be our best selves, the world is better for it. Thank you, Mel!!! 🖐💪❤❤❤

I have been listening to you for almost a year after a traumatic year. Without being too personal I had to make life choices that I didn't want to do. MEL you have become the voice for me to go to work, be a mom, wife, professional and find confidence. I keep digging deeper every time I Listen to your podcasts and TH-cam's!
I have never commented on a You tube or followed a person. But, if my family knew where all the positive changes came from they would say Thank you ! Listening has changed trauma and gaining my identity back. The confidence has really formed and I cannot wait every day for each day to listen to your voice. I have more to tell , but I don't know where to go to be more personal so it feeds more ideas or topics for show. You make me want to grow in all areas of my life!!! I loved your walk in autumn and seasons we go through!

Broken is the road we all travel. Some will veer towards healing and some will stay in their personal hell.
Deciding to heal and reach for more can be a difficult and challenging decision to make because it's hard and it's gonna hurt there's no escaping that. You'll be dragged thru painful memories of the past and visit places that you had long buried because all you wanted to do was forget and not hurt anymore. The ups and downs of healing will make you sick, some days forward and some days back. Some days angry, but some days complete peace, but in the end the pain of healing far outweighs continuing to live in your own personal hell and sacrifice all that you can be simply because your scared.
You see, fear can make you believe some really messed up stuff. That your not enough or not smart enough or talented enough or pretty enough, that your person is all wrong for you when in reality, that person is exactly who you've been looking for all your life, but we throw it all away because of fear. A four letter word just brings us to our knees and causes us to sacrifice it all. Taking us an imprisoning us in lies.
For me, I choose healing no matter how long it takes, no matter what it drags me thru because I deserve to heal and I'm reaching for it and I'm not letting go. I'm gripping on tight with ever ounce of tenacity in my mortal body because for me the sky's the limit and I'm going for it. The time for me has come.
A brighter future awaits us all and we're all worth it and we all deserve it. Let NO ONE tell your otherwise. We are all beautiful, strong and amazing people and it's time for all of us to let go of oue shatted past ....and heal.

Guess who else just got diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 46? Me. Suddenly, all the false beliefs are at the forefront of my mind because there are no cluttered thoughts to stop them. The message is loud and clear and I see the work I must do. The real work begins now I've always been seen as authentic but I've also always hidden behind humor and didn't speak up on things I really care about. I don't know what the next year's going to look like Mel but I know I won't be the same person that I am today

Authenticity is not something you can learn from others in podcasts or books etc because it’s all about the unique YOU. The great spiritual teachings all advise looking within (the hardest thing to do). We always find distractions to waylay us from that most important goal and purpose of existence. Self-help gurus like Mel are legion, and are all there in this modern age for purposes not necessarily to benefit the genuine seeker. Then again we are so accustomed to the quick fix from someone else to our personal issues, that Mel’s profession has boomed with the new technology. Start your authentic journey NOW, by following the shortest direct path to yourSELF, not the long looping tourist drive via the advice of others who are also on their own path. Good luck!❤️

I am glad you had this lady, Ritu on the podcast and helped her feel welcomed with understanding and compassion. I have Indian friends here in England and they said she is American trying to find her identity, starting with the pronunciation of her Indian name (Albeit not the 'correct' pronunciation according to them, can't win)!. I hope she feels comfortable in her identity and knows she is loved and accepted for who she is. England is a beautiful place for all nationalities, especially here in London. Ritu - keep strong!

I've watched 45 minutes. I will finish the episode. The application of this process is so promising and inspiring. I can already imagine infinite possibilities to coach myself into my power. I believe I will be successful even coaching my responses when doing chores I hate. One chore being balancing our my monthly finances. I dread doing it, and find myself talking negatively which sparks a whole train of negativity that won't stop and drains me. By coaching myself to be in my body I can heal my nervous system gradually. I am not being delusional and not faces my finances, but I'm also not creating worst negativity, and I still honestly & earnestly acknowledge my feelings towards my finances. speaker rocked.

Her topic is simple, not everyone is street smart to over come all situations. Some are innocent and sensitive , sudden discussion on new topic which you never know, some one might insult on street or get together. How to prepare for that situation. In order to not panic, hate others, become introvert. Just prepare for possible awkward situation based on your intelligence, before stepping out. Relatives/ friends/ manager /collegue/ stranger/ kids/ parents. Anyone you are going to meet on that day. So, you will be hero to yourself all the time ❤️

Good topic but I don't think more buzz words and phrases could have been used! I made it until the last 15 minutes and then I couldn't take it any longer. Basically, what the guest said is, be yourself, be confident in yourself, know your audience, stand up for yourself, and say what is on your mind. "Stand in your power"....."speak your truth".....When someone says these kinds of things, I have come to tune them out. I noticed the guest's message what tinged with anger. I guess that is her truth. Admittedly, I am irritated so it takes one irritated person to call out another. LOL! Mel, I love your podcasts and your books. Thanks for being you and the work you do.

The racism in America still surprises me. This lady looks like she can be from anywhere, French, Latin, Italian, Indian. The ISA is made up of immigrants yet she got bullied??? I had to leave the country. I can’t live among that.

I know it probably isn't the most important but I was hoping to hear the script when not invited or last minute.
Mine ironically is a group of friends I have (Canadians who have lived here for 50+ years) who frequently say I don't think like "them" (from different parts of India) and it would be easier for me if I did. Even when I try to explain my reasons.
I feel it's time to back away from this group?

Love Mel and listened to several of her podcasts, but didnt like this one, good topic but hard to understand and a bit boring, nothing like others that engage you right away.

10:12 but Ritu cannot pronounce her name the Indian way herself... I live in India, and she pronounces it like American trying to pronounce in Indian. So Ritu, you don't speak Indian such as Hindi, Marathi or Bengali? Do you only demand white people pronounce it properly? Because in India, everyone accepts other nations accents and appreciates them trying with no animosity. They say "Indian who are born or raised in America become righteous and want power over people" Now I see for myself for the first time. I learned a valuble lesson from you Ritu. Please visit India, it will humble you. Bless you, sister.

You told me that you are helping me but I don't see anything except you talk bad about me and you and your friends make fun of me by telling people that I am a perverted.

Great topic, I really learned a lot and enjoyed this conversation. My heart also goes out to @RituBhasin and her mother who has Alzheimer's Disease. It is something that has impacted my family as well
