Glad to see you released the fish. It was a Grass Carp, and people buy them to keep algae and other unwanted grasses from overtaking their ponds. It's "official" name is White Amur...if I spelled it correctly

I've cought some big carp out of golf course ponds, but never a grass carp. I've cought regular carp using corn or dough balls. Glad you had fun.

Yea grass carp don't really bite. At least I haven't found anything they bite on. Bout the Only way you get one is if you snag it. But regular carp yea dough balls corn and nightcrawler

Yes it's a carp but rare to catch on artificial lure. Yes they get bigger but still.cool to catch. Glad you released because they help to keep algae under control. This pond had an aerator and copper sulfate added to help reduce excess vegetation. Doing these will allow good environment for game fish to prosper.

BIG Grass Carp. They are usually put in ponds and lakes to control aquatic algae and weeds. Not good eating as they have little flavor and the meat is very oily. They are fun to catch on ultralight tackle and readily hit worms, corn or small jig flies.

Hey man nice video. Pond hoppin in Allen is great. Caught several large catfish and bass out of public fishing ponds. All catch and release . That's what these ponds are for. Allen is a great little fishing spot here in N Texas. The parks department keep the ponds stocked and keep the ponds nice.

I have seen carp easily twice that size in Evan's quarry. Got towed all over the lake one day by one that had scales on it's side 3-4 inches across fishing from a kayak that must have weighed 60 lbs and that is a conservative estimate.

It's a Chinese carp. They are used to reduce the vegetation on the bottom of lakes and ponds so that the plants can grow and produce oxygen. After the carp's have done their job, a fish killing chemical is put in the water to kill them (and other fish) and then remove them. They are way to bony to eat, don't taste very well and are more of a utility fish than anything else. I used to work with the county and we would do this 1 - 2 times a year in lakes around the area. What was bad was the stink from the rotting fish, and we had to remove the carcasses. YUCK!!

They are fighting little suckers huh, we have pay lakes where you pay 17 bucks for 24 hours that people camp at been going there all my life. On the weekends we have tournaments for the biggest carp some of the pots and get up to eight hundred bucks. The main ponds about as big as the one you're fishing in here there's 60 and 70 lb blue cat and Flathead in it as well if you're on Facebook look up Bob's fishing lake Savannah Missouri you'll be able to see some pictures.

Great way to catch that fish! You didn't panic, you kept firm pressure on the fish, & you let him gradually wear himself down. That's the way it's done! 2 questions: 1-How long was he? 2-How much did he weigh? (Just curious). Have a great day, and keep on fishin'!!!

Well there’s a small pond in the theme parks parking lot it looks to be about 1/3 to 1/4 that the size of the pond in your video it’s very small . Well I pulled out a 10 lb catfish and a 7 lb large mouth bass. On ultra light rod and 6 lb line.

If you haven't had carp for dinner you may not know that carp are the main fish used to make Gefilta fish. You'll find that in jars in the Kosher section of most grocery stores. It's really pretty good and Jewish people eat this on high holidays. Some of the brands are really good, others no so much. Mrs. Adlers, Old Jerusalem, Rockaech , try it you may be surprised how good it is.

I used to have about 20 grass carp in a pond of mine and I swear these things got absolutely massive. They would only eat bread. These things were close to if not over 100lbs. Unfortunately, we had a really dry, hot ass summer here in central Georgia that year and my damn pond turned over and killed every one of them at once. They were as wide as me and nearly as fat. That was the worst stink imaginable. I would never advise anyone to put carp in a bass pond because they prevent the bass from spawning properly by constantly rooting around the bank like damn pigs. Plus, they will sit really still out in the pond and make a gigantic disturbance when spooked ruining your fishing stealthiness and alerting every other fish in a hundred yard radius. I will never put them in any pond of mine again.
