My foster son, who passed away in Melbourne, Australia in 1993, before his twenty-third birthday, would play this song on repeat until he would fall asleep. The lead singer, Alex Smith, put so much emotion into this song. Each time I hear it, I am close to tears. He seems to speak for TJ who, at the time, knew that he was terminally ill. Thank you so much for sharing this piece of Australian magic with the rest of the world.
❤️❤️❤️ this song. My daughter and I would wind the windows down in the car and she would play the guitar and we would sing this song at the tops of our lungs while we drove around … which funnily enough just about anyone can sing and sound great 👏👏👏
I love this song…….. Remember it well as a teenager. The song was written by Garry Frost (guitarist for Moving Pictures) and Frances Swan also known as Frances Frost. I’ve read that Frost wrote the song about an autistic boy who was trying to get some lunch from a local store. Whilst the boy was waiting at the counter, no one was taking notice of him. I always felt that the lyrics were powerful, but knowing this story makes it more so, as I have a child with ASD. ❤
One of my all time favourite songs, Alex Smith's vocals always give me shivers. As a very traumatised young teen when this was released this song was like coming home ❤🩹
What About me was the number 1 selling single in Australia in 1982. It spent more than half a year in the top 40 with a massive 10 straight weeks at number 1. A massive hit record with lyrics that resonate to all who hear it.
That employment line bit was exactly how it was back in 1982. I finished Year 11 end of 1981 and struggled to find work, Australia was in recession around that time and I must have applied to about 50 jobs until landing an apprenticeship. This is a great heartfelt song that is still relevant today.
Off the top of my head, this is the only track by two seperate Aussie artists that has gone number one twice by two different artists (Moving Pictures & Shannon Noll [cover]) in Australia.
When our second son was a toddler he used to whine ALL the time " What about me" and my hubby and I would quickly retort " it isn't fair, I've had enough now I want my share can't you see" and be all dramatic with it using pretend microphones 😆😂. Hubby and I thought it was hilarious. Toddler not so much. It was the running joke of the family for years 😂
I remember seeing them at the Gladesville inn when they were testing their second album on the crowd. They were under a different name for the gig. Great live
Not to my knowledge…. Alex has retired from the Biz …. Postponed Anniversary Tour never went ahead because of Covid…… Alex has an unreleased 2nd Album…. Moving Pictures have an unreleased New Single.
Heads up! Momoa is all yours, born in Hawaii but Chris & brothers are most definitely ours 😂 🇦🇺 Alex has a beautiful voice, this is an awesome song & great reaction! ✌🏼
FINALLY…. My all time favourite Australian Band… yes they should have been huge….but that’s a story for another time….. and here’s some more…..Bustin Loose ( favourite song)…. Where we Belong( featuring Nicole Kidman in the video), Back to the Streets, Sweet Cherie, Angel and the Madman, Travelers Tale, and check out NEVER…. ( from the Footloose Soundtrack)…. That’s Moving Pictures performing the song….. so glad you finally got to Moving Pictures…. Still performing today.
Next stop should be 1927. But before you do, look up 1927’s lead singer’s audition on Red Faces, a piss take talent show on Hey Hey it’s Saturday. His audition caught the eye of members of Moving Pictures and they formed 1927.
So guys I think you said-he was not just telling his story-who was telling the story of your life as well of everybody's life-so crazy the world has become-women can be men-men can be women-should you choose you can actually not identify as either one of us-I should use pronouns what the hell am I supposed to call you-this song is honest and decent it absolutely tells the truth and the way it is supposed to be-do your very best to play this song to the whole world I emplore u-$$$$$$$$$$$-4 Eva
OMG Calm down. When my grandkids ask to watch TH-cam I say ok but don’t play any SCREAMERS. They know I mean gamers and TH-camrs who constantly scream squeal and shout because it fries my brain. Just imagine their reaction when I hit play on your ridiculousness. You didn’t last long😂
Yes Liam and Chris Hemswoth are Australian. Jason Mammoa (Aquaman) is American from Hawaii but did live in Australia for a few years and was Engaged to an Australian once.
Bustin Loose… Angel and the Madman, Winners, Never ( Footloose)…. Back to the Streets , Where We Belong….. look up Travelers Tale….. and unreleased Trouble in Paradise.
Almost 5 minutes for these two idiots to get to Critique the song, And then the beginning when the pianos playing this guy bobbing his head like it’s live in La Vida Loca, I think these people should listen to the song in the lyrics instead of trying to be famous comes off very obnoxious
Their whole album Days of innocence was gold! Takes me back to my teenage years bigtime.. Great reaction!
For years when I worked nightshift John Doe at 2MMM played the whole album on my birthday at 3an
@SuzyTrippa Yes! Days of Innocence is a great album.
@@peterdubois65 That's Brilliant!
Totally agree, great album from a great aussie band
I used to play it over and over in room as a kid. Greatness!
Another brilliant Aussie band 💕
Every Aussie knows this song it’s the bomb 💣🎸🎸🎸

Alex Smith is still getting around off the back of this song. He can sing it well live too. This song was relevant 40 years ago, even more so today.
the Hemsworth brothers, Liam and Chris are Ozzy! really chill guys, still call Australia home for sure xx luv your channel, cheers guys xx
And there's Luke, who Chris said is the best actor of them all.
Mate - it's Aussie not Ozzy

Alex Smith had a great set of pipes on him!!
Moving Pictures/1927 - both were genius.
My mother had a photo of me being held by the lead singer here when i was a baby. I'm sure i have a signed cassette in my storage from him. 😊
One of my all time favourite songs, Alex Smith's vocals always give me shivers. As a very traumatised young teen when this was released this song was like coming home ❤🩹
Wow my favorite childhood song. Just epic!!
One of best 80s songs ever

Dolly must have had a cup of coffee before this reaction. She said the most in this reaction of all I've seen from Jon & her. Well done!
So well done Jon and Dolly - a whole bunch of fun plus an amazing song...awesome!🎶🎼😎
grew up with moving pictures great band
Yes, Chris Hemsworth is Australian.

Moving Pictures was my first concert in 1983. Shellharbour Workers Club. Good days.
Yep..Number 1 in Australia. So awesome!!
Incredible vocals, all my respects to this singer !!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
The live version I saw on MTV, and Alex says, "You Sing It," and the crowd just went off.....
Off the top of my head, this is the only track by two seperate Aussie artists that has gone number one twice by two different artists (Moving Pictures & Shannon Noll [cover]) in Australia.
Another great Aussie voice, Alex Smith
One of the best song around at the time everyone sang it. Love it 😀 ❤️🔥🇦🇺👍🎵
Alex Smith has a great voice
BEST EVER GUYS,...EPIC
Thanks for reacting to another Australian act. We have so much talent here down under
Classic Aussie song!!
"What about me,
It isn't fair,
I joined the army,
And they cut my hair."
😢

Great live
great great great 80s song!
You have heard the band if you ever watched footloose
I really miss old school Aussie music and vids. Always telling a story and the showing you Australian life. The best promotion videos.
Moving pictures had a song in the original "Footloose" movie called Never. Look it up.
Very privileged to see them live😊
7:52 Guy in black hat and white shirt = a young Jeffery Rush
Top 5 one of the biggest songs of the 80s.
Great band .. also Australian crawl .
Chris and Liam Hemsworth are both Australians...but there are plenty that we "claim" but actually were not born here in Oz.
Killer song, to let all the big wigs know that if it wasn't for their good workers they would have nothing, brilliant song.
They are playing in the UK in February 2023

You should check out spiderbate doing the cover of black Betty. Great Aussie band
I still have my vinyl copy of this, bought when I was 17. SO many great songs on this album.
I do, too. I was also 17.
@@leahgabrielle4255 saw them at the local pub a few months later, great night!
@@skwervin1 I'm just a teeny tiny little bit jealous.
Yes moving pictures are Australian
Love this group. You should check out "Bustin Loose" by them.
I googled Chris Hemsworth. He is from Australia. I guess evolution has given us Aussies some kind of look?

Now this is a pissed off song. I get it.
Aquaman raised in Iowa!!!
Finally someone reacts to this song. You need to do Zebra- who’s behind the door.
Yes Chris Hemsworth is Australian.🇦🇺 ❤
A mate saw the lead singer walking down Kings Cross off his face in the mid 80's.
My dad was a mate of the lead singer's cousin and he too (the cousin) was often off his face on the stuff you get from Kings Cross.
Was the 80s , who wasn’t?
My God,yap yap yap lol
Yes the Hemsworths are Aussie

Certain they played Shelly's
Before Moving Pictures, Andrew, the sax player, used to play in the Dave Nesbitt trio. Shadows. In Crows Nest. Loved. Not so keen on Moving Pictures.

A great song, excellent band and brilliant arrangement..... instant success but....... then they were gone.
WTF happened to them ?
Yes Liam and Chris Hemswoth are Australian. Jason Mammoa (Aquaman) is American from Hawaii but did live in Australia for a few years and was Engaged to an Australian once.
Huge hit, however, as far as I know it was a one-hit wonder. Have no recollection of any of their other songs.
Bustin Loose… Angel and the Madman, Winners, Never ( Footloose)…. Back to the Streets , Where We Belong….. look up Travelers Tale….. and unreleased Trouble in Paradise.
Nah, they had a bunch of amazing songs
