let's not forget the "wholesomeness" of God to change his mind in 1978. Yeah, in THAT year, "God" decided it was ok for a man to be black. Gooooood.

It’s not about “reasons.” It’s about the spiritual confirmation by revelation. The world may mock, but what the Lord hath spoken to us, he hath spoken.

What a noble man-better than some of the rest of us who take offense. Standing firm when you know something is true in spite of opposition is the sign of a nobility and strength. So grateful you shared your testimony.

I cried when that moment happened, because my mom was happy crying. I was eight. My best friend was a young African-American boy who was baptized when I was, but his mother was agonizing over having to tell him he couldn't hold the priesthood. That moment when the priesthood was extended to all worthy men was a really beautiful moment, even for a child.

I love you Elder Brother Thomas... even though I don't know you personally. What a light and blessing you are! You have no idea how much I needed to hear this! I was sealed in the SLC temple (in the background) 27 years ago and now go to the temple and church alone. My husband and son stopped going to the church in large part because of how blacks were denied the priesthood in earlier times.

This affected me deeply. Thank you for sharing and letting me and others see how are you trusted in the Lord. I'm 47 years old and received the Priesthood of God when I was 12. I've tried throughout my life to live worthy and exercise it frequently. It has been a tremendous blessing in my life that I've never taken for granted. Nevertheless, hearing your story and feeling the power of the Spirit while I watched made tears flow freely. I now cherish the privilege I have to be one of God's trusted Priesthood holders even more. Thank you so much for your tremendous example!!!

Brother Thomas, thank you so much for your extraordinary example of faith and courage! This video is likely at least a partial answer to prayer for me.
You have definitely been “True to the Faith” as you quoted from that hymn and, even though we don’t know each other, you are now one of my heroes! I am a lifelong White and Caucasian member, now in my late 50s, and as a teenager I struggled to understand and accept why Blacks could not hold the Priesthood. I still struggle with “why it was” but I believe that one day I (and everyone) will understand the answer to that and many other of the questions that are, at least to our mortal eyes and understanding, such injustices. In the meantime, I will try to follow your example of being true to your and my shared faith, however poor my attempts so often are.

Thanks for sharing your story! Incredible faith in such challenging times. I thought it was interesting Pres Kimball wrote to you about women needing to go to temple to serve missions. My parents and other relatives joined church in Argentina well before the SP Brazil temple was built. They served missions without receiving endowments.

    • @MrDJS444
      @MrDJS444 3 ปีที่แล้ว

And a number of missionaries, male and female, who began serving in the early days of the pandemic when the temples were closed also had not yet received their endowments. I imagine that many, maybe even most, have now been able to receive them while in the mission field, but likely not all because not every mission has a temple in its boundaries.

    1. They said he couldn't get the priesthood
    2. He couldn't go on a mission
    3. Have the same blessings
    4. And live on the periphery
    Because he is black...
That is so disturbing if you think about it!

I have always had in the back of my mind and heart as to how black people are viewed in the church...I am now coming back to the church after being inactive for over 20 years. This was one of the reasons that I initially stepped back and found out that I was considered a decendant of Cane because of my melinated skin. I thought this was so unfair. Our skin gets vilified so much and unfair biased are opposed. It is a choice to be prejudiced or bigoted and I know now the church is not like that and at least the principles they are teaching now and ended up embracing and conveying now are not that at all ok with any of that. I am so glad that all men of the church has the ability to equally and fairly have the preisthood. Those that carry that in their hearts are not followers of Jesus who is not a white man no matter how he gets painted and certainly not of the father our heavenly father who sent him which he is a carbon reflection of. Those that live like that already have their rewardI assure you. Hatred leaves a blemish on the soul and our heavenly father cannot be in the presence of any unclean thing.
My grandfather passed away a melchizedek preisthood holder. He is who ushered us into the church. All the times I had been moved from church to chruch as a kid he stayed true to his prayers and finally joined the church and was so faithful. I have to remember this is the man who helped raise us and had never and would never lead me astray. He set a path for my family and I today will gladly step back on it to the finish line.
Your testimony is beautiful and helped me make a decision today. Thank you and glory to God in the highest in the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen

Sooooo, God "changed his mind" in 1978? A new "revelation" rather than admitting that MEN, not God, had kept black people down until 1978? Then and only then--with the new revelation--it was OK to be black? Do I have that right? This man seems a good man, and I wish him well, but how he--as a black man--can accept this "church" teaching is way past me, I must say.
