Thanks so much. I have used several of your drills for my daughter who plays outfield on her fast pitch team. This video was especially (obviously) helpful. The idea of the drop step leading you straight back can seem counter intuitive, her first instinct is to head for the ball. After watching the video with her, and doing the drills in the field, the improvement is AMAZING!! As a former baseball catcher, I cant offer to much help on my own to her, so thanks again for the videos!
Thanks man! I played Fall Ball for my first ever season last october and I wasn't very good, but my arm developed over time which was good. This is a great video, thanks
Coach, great instruction. Myself and my assistant always use your videos to ensure we are teaching our LL (select) team in the correct way. Keep up the good work.
from my experience with baseball, the best glove to use....is the one that feels the most comfortable. I used a small glove, like a 2nd basemans glove for years, played infield at 3rd and 1st, played outfield, other people would always like to use my glove,Try it out in practice, if it doesnt feel like an extension of your arm/hand, get another one. When i would wear mine, i used to forget it was on. When it comes to catching the ball, a glove can only help so much. good luck, pick a winner!
Mike, thanks for the comment, and I think I can help. The key to really gaining velocity and distance on your throws is have a long toss program. You should only do this a few times a week. Start with our Top Gun Throwing Series video, and continue to stretch your throws out until your about 60 yards away from your target. Don't try to throw the ball on a line, but instead stretch it out and throw it in the air. (Like a rainbow) Mechanics are key. Message me for more details! -Coach Matty
This is a great video. I used it with my son to help him learn to play outfield. He has always played infield and had to make an adjustment to a new position in a hurry.
Video Ideas: 1) Cutting off a hit in an outfield gap. 2) Infield movements towards gaps (Example- Between third and short: third goes after the ball since he has more momentum towards first, while the shortstop moves behind the third basemen.) 3) Hits down the first base and third base lines. 4) Cut-off positioning
Thanks xJoshSkatesx, we have one more outfielder video you can find on our page, and we WILL be doing more. I'll let you know when new ones come out! If you don't mind me asking, where are you from? -Coach Matty
Hey Banana! The place is ProSwing of Port Chester, located in New York! So you're saying you are catching the ball but then it falls out? First and foremost, I'm going to tell you to use both hands when catching. That way, if it does pop out your other hand can keep it in there. Second, check your glove! Is it too loose?! NEW GLOVE TIME. The hardest part of playing the outfield is getting to the spot, the catching is the easy part! Practice, practice, practice. -Coach Matty
i hope these tips work. i have been busting my behind to make my baseball team for the past 3 months and im not sure if ill make it. thanks for the video btw
thanks best vid for me because im an outfielder and i was really looking for some good tips im signing up for a middle school summer leauge this weekend i am a beginner i got cut last year due to too many people signing up and ive been really looking for good vids like this one. i can start practiceing very soon as soon as it gets warmer but i cant really afford the clinics and camps so all i really have is training vids the batting cage and my local park. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
What I am still struggling with is how to make propper ground ball saves - especially when the ball drops just before the glove. That's still difficult for me! Greetings from Germany!
These rules apply for ALL outfield positions. Generally Center-fielders are faster, but if you take great angles to the ball, you can make up for a lack of speed. Good luck this summer! -Coach Matty
hey matty if there is a pop up and its also like a line drive and zooms right past you is it ok if you don't catch it and also where should I start in the outfield as soon as I get on the field
Okay Ive been playing baseball sense I was little I'm 13 now and I don't really use these techniques when you play you usually learn as you play or your coach will help don't watch videos trust me when you learn from your mistakes it helps a lot more also I play centerfield but I can help anyone if you need advice and stuff :)
Hello, my name is Daniel and I'm 18, this is going to be my first time playing baseball and I bought a 14 in glove for outfielder position, any advice you can provide? Is the size OK or should it be smaller?
Hey Matty, I´ve got a problem I´m an outfielder and although I´m trained and i´ve got a really powerful throwing arm, i am not able to throw big distances. Hope you can help me =D
Hey My Name Is Darwin And I Just started playing baseball is it wierd if some players catch pop-ups if there gloves sideways instead of the right way your doing it in the video ?
It will definitely help... but only if you practice it! Once it becomes muscle memory...it will become more natural. Let me know how your progress goes! -Coach Matty
Hey Matty. I love the videos as they're very helpful. Could you maybe do a video on how to position yourself as a cutoff man and the different situations and how to play in them. Thanks.
Hey bud, first off what's your name? Your work ethic sounds GREAT and it seems like you're willing to sacrifice and put in the work. Go through our playlists and help build your game based on the areas you're weaker in. When the weather gets better, make sure you get outside and go through a throwing program to get your arm "game-ready." If you're looking for drills in particular, message me! -Coach Matty
THIS A GOOD PROGRAM FOR COACHES PARENTS AND PLAYERS WHO WANT TO LEARN AND TEACH THE GAME. WE ASSIGNMENT IT FOR HOME WORK FOR OUR YOUNG PLAYERS AND THEIR PARENTS.
I got mine at Sports Authority, but you can find them in other places as well. Dicks and Sports Authority are the two best in my opinion. I hope you find a good glove man.
Wilma, let me know if these tips have been helping you, I know a lot of baseball seasons have started already! (At least in NY they have!) Where are you from? -Coach Matty
wow You are amazing my friend. i hope found vids like this in spanish for share this with my team , a big huge from Argentina, thanks a lot for all your tips!
I suck at baseball I just can't do anything for some reason. I am forced to join every year cause the team never has a full team. I throw terible and I can't catch, when it is hit to me I get hit instead of the glove. I think I'm done.
Same problem here. Because that comment is posted almost a year ago i have a question. Did you get better by now somehow and if yes do you have some tips for me?
MrTims5220 I know everyone says more practice is key and stuff. But I used to hate catching and such. I got my dad to throw everyday with me. you get used to it after a while.

Excellent series, especially for younger players, LL through HS.
thank you for the awesome vid I will be using this
This is a great video. I used it with my son to help him learn to play outfield. He has always played infield and had to make an adjustment to a new position in a hurry.
I believe it was a two-tone WORTH glove with an "H" webbing... a pretty good feel!
-Coach Matty
this is very useful
Great videos, new subscriber. You are the most thorough tip channel on YT. Thanks!
