I was googling this game because I was curious if anyone still knows about it, but to see a video in 2018 about it is WILD. Parys Technografx is my dad's company, actually; it's still going even now, although he makes apps for the iPhone these days. I grew up playing it and we still have lots of promo material for it hidden away around our house, haha. It kinda sucks seeing it listed as a Worst Game Ever, though: he's still hoping to one day create a new, updated version! Still, gotta give you credit it for getting it to even run. Last time my dad and I got it working was on an old laptop of his that still runs Windows 95.
Zapp the Alien was the most annoying pet, though. Loads of the keybindings aren't explained, and when I told my dad that f4 lets you see outside of the spaceship (via pressing every button to see what happened), he went "really? I've forgotten all the little extras we added." so most have been lost to time.
I had Koi-Koi when I was kid and loved it! So I'd like to say thanks to your Dad for making these games and giving me a great childhood memory!

I am a massive fan of the games as they were one of my childhood favourites. I have been trying to find out more about them and it would be a DREAM to speak with someone that was there when they were made

I think it was never a secret that the music sting when the Star Destroyer appears overhead in Episode IV was inspired by Holst, but was it actually stolen completely?

btw, I bet you couldn't save because the game tried to create files where it couldn't write them, launching it with admin privileges could have helped
As for modding I think the BMPs wouldn't load because they were 24-bit color, where the original ones were probably 16 or lower, and the WAVs were 44,1kHz stereo instead of 22kHz mono. Old games were extremely picky about the supported formats.

I LOVED these games! Granted, I was only about 8 and back then it was amazing. Splat and KoiKoi were my favourites. Zap the Alien really was the worst - you thought these were difficult to work out? Zap was worse! It was a simpler time in the 90s 🤣

I clicked away from the video and pulled up Holst's The Planets and got lost down a classical music rabbit hole for an hour and a half... funny thing is I've heard Holst's Mars before and I just wanted to listen to be sure. I always thought this was a great game back in the day! And then soon realized that actually, its quite limited and shit (especially when compared to other PC games of the same era such as Roller Coaster Tycoon, Half Life and Age Of Empires). If you neglect the pet, it turns green and dies.
