There's about 1,000 other reasons why people stop playing this game. And they're all mainly because the game is so buggy. But the majority of the people get used to that & fall in love with the game regardless.
The truly sad thing about all of this is that the developers simple just don't care enough to do anything about it. Idk what version of BattlEye they're using, but it is COMPLETELY OBSOLETE. They don't have an anti-cheat department or anything of the sort. They essentially have some form of contract with BattlEye. Their policy literally states that they're not in ANY WAY involved with the detection of cheats, issueing bans on cheaters, or revoking them. They simply don't & won't do anything about it.
I mean, seriously... It's not like it's a huge ask. Every detail is in the game logs already. Who shot who, with what weapon, from what distance, etc. How hard can it be to add a little button on the "You are dead." screen that says: "Notice anything suspicious? Report player here." Maybe even add a little box for us to type in why we think this player is cheating. And then BattlEye can do whatever the f**k it is they do. Wether it's to have AI automatically process it, or better yet, manually review each report.
Which might sound a bit unrealistic, but I'm sure that a player who's been reported multiple times will raise a flag & make it easier for them. I bet I could find someone on Fiverr that can code that in a couple of minutes... Seriously.
This leaves everyone asking the same question: WHY? Why aren't they doing anything about it? Well, just like any decision ever made by any company, you just gotta follow the money. For some mysterious reason, it just doesn't benefit the devs economically to introduce a better anti-cheat software or update their current one. I guess no one will ever understand why, but there are people who go as far as saying that there are rogue developers who profit more from selling the cheats than they would ever profit from the game itself.
I don't know what to believe, but this doesn't seem too far outside the realm of possibility. It could also explain why the game is almost 10 years old and still struggles with this. What do you think?

Just like in life, games imitate the doctrine of order out of chaos and it is very profitable. It is also a efficient training ground for future inspiring monsters to place boot on neck of their fellow human. Dad said life isn't fair and he was correct, but it should be fair.

Completely agree with everything. I don't understand why they don't update their anti-chat. It would 100% bring in more revenue. Cheaters have to buy copies of the game to cheat on it, and cheats are updated sometimes daily depending on the game. I only say this because my friend used to cheat on tarkov which can cost up to $140 for a single account. He wasted about $500 on accounts and hacks in total lol

    • @birdsteak9267

I met 3 players today, I shot the first one because as I clearly showed i had no interest in shooting him, he actually started to rush, looking for weapons to possible kill me, so I shot him in the foot, lost him for like 4 minutes, met him again and he fainted, though he had nothing, I killed him.
The second was jump scare, I walked into him and he was as armed as I was, I shot him, missed a couple of shots, he wasn't able to pull up his rifle in his panic, I killed him. The third ran down a hill, saw me, I showed zero interest in killing him, he seem AFK, so I shot at him from the distance, hit his foot.
I walked down, patched him up and walked into the Woods to hunt.
My reactions is exactly because previous games i tried to befriend people and though it would work qith like 4 people, the 5 thor 6th person would try to kill us, even if we haven't looted everything in a 100x loot server, just to turn it into a COD game, making it hard to actually cooperate which is the best way to progress in the game, because it can develope into clans and clan warfare which changes the dynamic of the game.
Seemingly people are too busy just having a small petty experience, lurking or camping, but we are all kind of pushed in that direction because of that.
I did feel bad for the 2 persons though, but I am 100% sure the first guy rushed for a weapon, I didn't aim my rifle, I didn't show interest, I tried to just move on away from the area as I saw him. If he found a gun he would take me, cuz I was packed and he was not.

Third one was a curiosity because he froze up and went AFK, I actually stod there for like 10 seconds, I walked up the hill, looked down, he was still standing there, I shot around his feets, still no reaction, then I shot his arm, I think it was his arm, I went down, patched it and moved into the Woods, my character is still alive. DayZ for most is a game where you don't want to shoot anyone but 80 out of 100 times, if you don't they will kill you. 2 days ago, I met someone and we chatted, told me about a Humvee and we agreed to find a battery and plugs, 4 minutes later he shot me, because I got a Magnum. Just hours before that as a fresh spawn, I met another fresh spawn, I chatted with him, he attacked me with his fist while I defended myself and asked why (unessessary as neither got shit we need) and I won the fight, he passed out, I found rope in shed next to us, tied him up, took his clothes and told him when he woke up that I hope the fight was worth it, I kept him alive. I knocked him out again so that I could get some distance, short time after that guy shot me, what did I learn? There is no gratitude towards you for being a sporty winner. At spawns, if you have good loot, it's you against everyone who have everything to win, they see you as a shortcut.

It's not the playerbase it's because the developers has made CoD... DayZ doesn't have enough depth to incentivize any of those things. The base building system is awful, there's very little interesting items/gear, there's no real benefit to cooperation because zombies are not a threat and because guns are so lethal one person can easily kill an entire group of other people if they get the drop on them, the survival features are barebones. Overall there just isn't enough content and PVE challenge in the game for that kind of playstyle to happen naturally.

I remember when I first started and none of my friends were into the game yet.. I'd roam around and find barely enough to survive only to be killed by zombies or get shot by someone who managed to find a gun just before me. Eventually I met a couple of guys who didn't kill me outright and we decided to group up, we had good runs into the military locations and looted up plenty of gear.. then our group started growing and we eventually had around 12 guys in our group, and that's when stuff starts disappearing randomly, we're catching randoms in our camp, there's friendly fire incidents, and trust starts to become tested.
I eventually packed up my tent with my gear and set up in the woods nowhere near our base and didn't tell anyone where it was for about a week. Then accusations started flying in my direction, like stealing someone's gun, taking someone's food, swiping someone's plate carrier.. I had several witnesses that defended me because they saw exactly what I packed up. Of course I make the mistake of sharing my location with our leader.. he drags the entire group to my location and everyone pitches a tent, literally and metaphorically, which gets under my nerves.
Guess what happened? More stuff went missing and more randoms started showing up.. then my friend who I've known for years gets online and sees part of the group plus a few randoms emptying my tent, they accuse him and me of stealing stuff in front of the group leader, then gun down my friend. He filled me in and I messaged our leader grilling him for letting that happen only to be messaged back that over half the group turned on all of us and had been stealing stuff and taking it to another server for their own clan. I gave it a few days before getting back on and when I loaded in everything but a single medium tent with some fire wood in it was left. I cut all ties with everyone from that group except my friend, now him and I just try to avoid most players but kill on sight anyone geared up.

And once you’re up North food is so hard to come by. I’ve starved to death while running through every house, in multiple towns/villages trying to find a single piece of food. It’s like they went from one extreme to the other. I remember barely having to eat in the mod, and food was everywhere.

I think the only reason why I'm so attached to this game is the fact that it's has looting and the encounters with people are adrenaline rush. Every shot you hear freaks you out, every person you meet could possibly betray you. If you're a new player on Dayz my tip is don't trust anyone. Everyone on Dayz is out to get you and they will kill on site. You have to think you spend hours looting and getting guns, you want to use them against others so you set out to find people. Now personally for me I go out and hunt people who are fully kitted. But I've meet people who are actually nice and I've spared their lives. Idk Dayz is a shoot now and ask questions later type of game. You can decide to try and be nice or you can risk all the loot you gathered. It's definitely a high risk high reward situation.

Does it tho? I’ve been playing DayZ for several years and probably can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve logged out thinking “man that was fun.” For the most part unless you’re playing with people you know, the game is too much of a grind with very little pay off. None of my IRL friends play so I’m mostly lone wolfing it and I feel like DayZ is the sort of game, at least at this point in its history, is built around the concept that you won’t truly have any sort of sustainable fun unless you’re playing with others. Frankly the game has turned into a sandbox CoD with a bit of Rust and H1Z1 sprinkled in. It just isn’t the game it used to be and appears to just be getting worse and worse with each update. But then again that’s just my opinion so it should be taken with a grain of salt I suppose.

I'm done because even if I hide one tent in the middle of nowhere, with a camo net, and hidden in trees so you can't see it untill you're almost right on it, someone always finds it within a couple weeks and takes everything. If I find a tent that's obviously in use, I usually take nothing, and if I do, it's only if it means the difference between life and death. Most of the time I'll add a couple items. One time, I had five stick shelters, and two big tents full of loot. I left for a few hours and came back to the place ransacked. They took all my best loot, which was about 60% of it, and left most of the remains on the friggin ground. They couldn't even put it back, so it wouldn't despawn. That was literally two weeks of my spare time, and they just raped it. They couldn't have just taken a few things? They had to totally pillage my shit? Wtf?! Is there no respect anymore? People justify their shit behavior by saying, "it's just a game," but it's not. It's real people, and real time and effort.

The main thing that people tend to REALLY forget is that DayZ's current "development" team is just a couple of guys in a broom closet at BI's office.
A literal skeleton crew, maybe 10 people at most, are all that keeps the game alive with the updates, bugfixes and occasional small drips of fresh new content.
They shut down the studio that WAS working on DayZ full time back in 2018 or so, right when BI's upper management decided to push the game out of Alpha, and did one last big hurrah and get Workshop integration working, which is basically all that keeps DayZ alive today.
Sumrak (the creator of the wildly popular Namalsk map), bless his heart, has taken over as Creative Lead of the game now and he is definitely pushing it in the right direction with the updates that his team are still cranking out, even after Bohemia's decision to put the game on permanent life support now.
We'll more than likely never see any major or substantial engine upgrades or changes since BI cut DayZ's funding down to almost nothing compared to what the game pulled in back in it's heyday, but with the vehicle rework incoming in the next update I don't see how else the game could be improved any further apart from radical changes to the 'DayZ Recipie' that was what the Arma 2 mod had.
Oh yeah, and the BattlEye version BI uses hasn't been updated since the Arma 2 days, and as such it's only basically about as effective as VAC at keeping cheaters out. Which is to say, putting a sponge in the ocean and expecting it to soak everything up.

After that day I always thought, Imagine being so bad at the game that you get killed by a fresh spawn using cheats, while geared. There’s a few major issues with DayZ, especially official servers. Remember official servers have no rules and players will use every possible way of surviving and taking advantage on any situation. Trusting people is more of a gut feeling but no matter how nice a person can sound remember this is DayZ, some players instinct when they become hungry is to kill there buddy who they met 10 minutes ago.
Official servers are fun, and it’s the core survival of the game. Everything is on default, there no rules. I’m a console player the only cheats we gotta worry about it’s glitches that players abuse. One particular server is always popular on Xbox but the major issue is how geared players have ventured to fresh spawns and build bases that early players couldn’t raid. As soon as they hear the slight gunshot they’ll hunt you down, and these bases are scattered in major city spawns. Oh and seeing you go on a rampage with the shotgun is a good example why people quit as I’ve stopped playing multiple times from spawning near a town and two players horde the police station shooting any fresh spawn they want and this happens 80% of the spawns you get as some players just enjoy staying around areas that are simple to them.
Community servers will always be better, but some of there rules can be damn right crazy.
It is annoying surviving for long period of hours looking for base stuff to only die and you get that feeling to why should I bother and many of times I’ve come off for a few days purely because DayZ will show you why it’s a brutal unfair survival game.

im old enough to remember when killing on sight branded you a bandit, and now that killing on sight is the norm/meta (why in the hell should a survival game have a kill/death counter) the social aspect of the sandbox survival genre is completely gone, ruining the appeal entirely to new players.
survival games are much more social than competitive, and as long as dayz and rust are the only successful options, virtually nobody is going to be getting into them. like, the entire reason the game was popular to get into 12 years ago is gone now. why expect the games to still get players?
