    Do let me know if you have any question regarding the features and functionality of this watch, happy to answer them!
    Updates:
    1. Casio replied to my query. Watch does have 4GB internal storage, 2GB is reserved for system.
    2. They also did not comment on the SOC inside this watch.

    • @SkyForce6700
      @SkyForce6700 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think it is misleading to market 4GB of storage when in fact only half that amount 2GB is available to the user. In the US it is possible that might be grounds for a lawsuit? Is it not possible to keep the Wear OS watch face permanently lit? It seems by default the monochrome display comes back within mere seconds but I think on the original ProTrek model it is possible to change it so that the display is always on until the battery goes low. So is this possible on this G-Shock? In the initial info for this watch it was said this was going to come with a thermometer sensor but now it is missing? I have noticed this in general when it comes to Wear OS watches that no one seems to come with a working thermometer sensor, it is weird, why does it not appear to be possible to get a thermometer in a wear OS watch? The ProTrek smart watch models also have that function missing. I wonder how you are supposed to get an accurate barometer and altimeter with a thermo sensor missing? Temperature is a essential part in calculating the correct pressure and altitude. So this is a mystery to me? Have you tried downloading a thermometer app from the Google play store and installing it and see if that somehow works to bring out temperature data from this watch? Perhaps that could work if it turns out there is a hidden temperature sensor in the watch...

    • @Gsyoku
      @Gsyoku  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes it is possible to keep the Wear OS watch face permanent. You can also change the screen timeout to max 15 sec (default was 5 sec). I did do a ADB sensor/hardware dump, cant see any additional sensor. Will give it a go anyway & update

    Gotta say. I've had the WSDF30 for the last couple of years and I love it. What I love most is that at the end of the day when it dies it still functions as a watch. It switches over to the monochrome display and sips the last bit of the battery that way. As for the battery 9/10 when I go hiking I carry a battery pack with me for my phone, camera ect.. This watch has definitely peaked my interest and I'm excited to get my hands on it when it's available in Canada.

    No other Wear OS watch has 20 BAR/ATM water resistance rating. The 2016 Nixon Mission watch had 10 ATM, but afaik the best in today's market has a 5 ATM rating. That is really the stand out feature of this watch, unless one is shopping for this particular style. Nice initial review and walk through, particularly running the Device Info 360 specification app.

    Enjoy your videos very much. Got a MSG-1000 a couple days ago, loved it. Watches are tools, so if I want to get serious, I use my Garmin Fenix, long battery life, lots of ANT+ accessories and very nice looking. But I am a G-Shock fan too, so for that reason I bought this one, the G-Wagon of smart watches, not practical, has flaws, lacks things and expensive, but rugged as hell, plus that G-Shock look to the Nth. And as all smart watches, in 1-2 years something better comes along, so I know what I am getting into, but having fun on the mean time, and I think that is what watches are all about, enjoyment. Again, thank you for keeping us up to date with G-Shock news and products.

      @marfg12345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There's no way they can release a watch like this for such a low price because their regular g-shock watches are already too expensive for what they are. Casio is selling 80s technology for $100-400 with their regular g-shocks and all you get is a shitty LCD with a stopwatch function encased in a plastic body.
      A watch like the GSW-H1000 at $300 would make almost all of their other watches obsolete.
      It's so obvious what's going on when you consider this new g-shock smartwatch is made in Japan. It's just an excuse to make the watch expensive. If it was made in China/Thailand it would be half the cost, but they don't want that. Essentially, Casio locked themselves out of the smartwatch market due to their overpriced "dumb" watches. For a GSW-H1000 to exist at $300, all of their other g-shocks would have to cost under $100 and they can't do that.

    • @speedzero7478

    • @marfg12345
      @marfg12345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@speedzero7478 I'm talking about this particular g-shock watch. All Tag Heuer watches are very expensive so it's irrelevant to Casio. The g-shock smarthwatch would be half the cost if it said "made in China" on the back just like with all their other g-shock watches. Made in Japan easily doubles if not triples the price of g-shock watches. Casio did this on purpose so they can justify the crazy price tag.

      @robertm3951 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Suunto 7 ranges from $350 to $500.
      There are features in this watch that justify it to be a little more but not $700.
      The good thing is that prices usually do come down to reflect reality.

  • @DanRC69

    It's certainly not the most expensive G-Shock (or even close), but it STILL is too expensive, especially when it'll be outdated and useless in around 2 years (like ALL smartwatches).
    Smartwatches are 'throw away' items by design, so pricing it so high is just madness.

    • @Gsyoku
      @Gsyoku  3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      I agree. The battery is not user replaceable as well. One of the most important aspects of G-Shocks. I will be extremely honest here, if it wasn't for a review for the channel, i wouldn't buy this watch myself.

    • @SparketDog
      @SparketDog 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thats just not true. My first LG G Watch R is now 6 yrs old and still works without an issue, even the battery is still valid für a day and only slightly degraded. Even though my dog bite on it haha. Still getting updates for Wear OS. So u can use Wear OS devices for a long time not just 2 yrs.

    • @StopFear
      @StopFear 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. I think you are absolutely wrong. You are suggesting that expensive G-Shocks are too expensive give that they will be "outdated" and "useless" in 2 years. Really? According to what? If that were the case then it already would have happened to many watches which offer some "smart" functions.
      People who make these watches and people who buy them are fully aware that technology changes. The manufacturers were aware of it even before we got the first smart phones. Even after the first Apple Watch was released people didn't just put away their standard wrist watches to use the Apple watch. In reality many owners of watches do not care about whatever computer/internet functions a watch may or may not have. Actually I heard many times that when the Apple watch (and other brands later) released their "smartwatches" what actually happened is that general interest in watches in general had spiked. People still buy mechanical and quartz watches even if those watches do not offer any of the internet related "smart" features. Market for good watches is still very good.
      Watches that were made by Casio/G-Shock 2 years ago and further back are still popular and are still work and if they aren't scratched all over. What the owners care more about is some basic functions such as check time, date, timer, perhaps alarm, AND they care about what the watch looks like. For example some people like the look of a vintage watch so they buy and wear working vintage watches. Others simply want something that was popular at the time when they were younger. The color and how well it matches the clothes. Perhaps how comfortably the watch sits.
      Basically, watch owners do not care a lot about some tech feature of their watches, even if the feature becomes "outdated". Some watches did actually lose their appeal over time. Like when everyone listened to mp3s on their phone or mp3 player some watches offered a function to in some way help listen to the music. I am pretty sure Casio and G-Shock had watches that gave you some mp3 player controls like "Stop, Play, skip, next, previous". Some watches straight up played music and had an earphone jack. Yes, nobody needs those options anymore mainly because when a watch has a feature like that it meant they would be more expensive and had to be of slightly bigger size. So, those were negatives which created an incentive to stop making or wearing them.

I hope you know what I'm talking about. This plastic ring breaks after a number of years and then I can't find a replacement. I have one G shock in my room i can no longer use because that ring is broken. After pinning the band to the proper tightness, the end just flops around and then the watch falls off. I've tried ordering replacement bands but they can't be found. 3rd party bands are too big or too small. I've found i can use a rubber band but it's totally uncomfortable. Does anyone know how to solve that problem can get replacement plastic bands that fit before i get another one? Thanks!!!

    G-Shock watches look cool and all. That's good. But at some point their gimmick of being unbreakable stops being relevant. Even their cheaper models are pretty much safe from most common stresses, impact, water etc. Its like a pointless gimmick to make it "stronger" than the previous models. Most people likely get some scratches, or some damage on the case or the glass, or their strap breaks and they just buy another one since people don't like seeing cosmetic damage on the watch.

  • @marfg12345

    There's no way Casio can release a watch like this for under $400 because their regular g-shock watches are already too expensive for what they are. Casio is selling 80s technology for $100-400 with their regular g-shocks and all you get is a shitty LCD with a stopwatch function encased in a plastic body. Their regular "made in Japan" g-shocks go for $400 and some are closer to $1000.
    A watch like the GSW-H1000 at $300-$400 would make almost all of their other watches obsolete.
    It's so obvious what's going on when you consider this new g-shock smartwatch is made in Japan. It's just an excuse to make the watch expensive. If it was made in China/Thailand it would be half the cost, but they don't want that so they purposefully slapped "made in Japan" on the back of the watch.
    Essentially, Casio locked themselves out of the smartwatch market due to their overpriced "dumb" watches. For a GSW-H1000 to exist at $300, all of their other g-shocks would have to cost under $100 and their Japanese made g-shocks under $200. Obviously, they'll never do that because 90% of their revenue comes from selling traditional g-shocks.

      you are right. amazfit, huami, huawei, realmi, even samsung etc making a bunch of smart watch in 100-200dollar region in all shape. the one closest to a g-shock is amazfit t-rex pro at just 150dollar. its nothing high tech, and again japanese makers are losing out in smart watch era , just like how they did in smart phone era. slow to react and overpriced.

      @@charlesdegaulle2928 smart watch era? you think it will be an era? calls or mails or whatever can be just done with your phone in the pocket. 500 dollars to have what you already have? you have no brain. I'd say apple or your fitness watches are overpriced for what they offer. A person with life would buy a normal watch to keep time. These smart watches are for kids who have no work except for sitting in starbucks.

The watch spec is 2 years too late and too 2x too expensive. no NFC, no chance of using new wear OS, no solar, and very low GPS run time. Smartwatch is a tough arena to compete in, 1 year too late and your product is already a guaranteed failure antique
