A closer look at new California gun law discussion with San Francisco Sheriff Paul Miyamoto

  • There’s been growing confusion about the new California law that bans people from carrying firearms in most public places.
    Under the law, guns are banned in 26 places -- including playgrounds, public transit, stadiums, amusement parks, etc.
    But it was blocked, reinstated, and then blocked again earlier this month --- and the ongoing legal battle continues.
    San Francisco Sheriff Paul Miyamoto spoke with ABC7’s Stephanie Sierra about what this means for the city and the state. bit.ly/42gbGDu

      ummm.. that's not how it works, bud. The Sheriff didn't legislate the law; the Anti-gun Senators and Assemblymen did, that made it to NewScum's desk who would be more than willing to sign it into law. The Sheriff only follows the laws enacted by the politicians by administering them. Shooting the messenger is what you're doing. 🤦‍♂️🙄
      I don't see anything wrong with what the Sheriff is doing. He's issuing the CCW according to Supreme Court order, but the nuance is that it's a tedious process. Nothing wrong with that.

      It's time as law abiding citizens we stand up for our gun rights. Why should we be penalized for the things criminals do, I have been a avid outdoorsman my entire life, I responsibly took the gun course at 16 years old when I bought my hunting license, we have always had loaded fire arms in our house, and they weren't locked up. I knew from a early age how to completey brake down a firearm from a early age and was taught to respect firearms. My great uncle was a California highway patrolman and taught gun safety in san diego for over 30 years...

This is another irresponsible law that was obviously not well thought through. Does this law also implement a higher volume of law enforcement in all of these locations where it is “illegal” to defend yourself?? Laws like this get innocent people hurt or killed just so that a politician can appear to be productive 🤔

    Terribly placed ghost gun question! Not sure why a journalist would ask about ghost guns when interviewing the Sheriff about law abiding CCW holders/applicants. In order to apply, the department checks with the DOJ making sure your firearm is serialized and legally owned by the applicant. Ghost guns are an important question, but way out of context here.

    He just admitted that he didn’t “traditionally issue” permits and in the past 20 years his city has only issued 4 permits. He’s definitely the problem. The sheriff is the issuing authority. Not the Governor, not the senators, not the courts. It has been widely known that many sheriffs have been engaging in a “pay to play” scheme, basically only endorsing those who give charitable donations.

  • @heh2k

    Interesting how journalism decides to show the B-Roll of AR-15’s and antique guns during the conversation of CCWs, which none are clearly CCW pistols. In addition, associating B-Roll of legal serialized AR-15’s during the ghost gun segment, could misled to thinking that’s how ghost guns are transacted. Kinda sloppy

  • @scootle74
    @scootle74 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think the point of all of this should be for the media to make the public aware that people applying for CCW permits in CA are essentially being put through the same psych and qual requirements that LE candidates face.... I am still unclear what people are "afraid" of with legally vetted CCW permit holders.
    It's also very very very expensive. $1000 (or more) in personal expenses are required to secure a permit in most jurisdictions at this point in CA.

  • @YTBEN1045
    @YTBEN1045 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Criminals aren't going be concerned with any of these requirements. They'll get guns and carry them wherever and whenever they want to. Law-abiding citizens on the other hand will have to go through the eye of the needle to get a permit. The 2nd ammendment doesn't exist in California at all and that's one of the many reasons why the state sucks!

    California was spot on when they identified the litany of problems the prohibition of cannabis. They knew that to keep it illegal was to criminalize good citizens and to support a black market where criminals run the show.
    The idea that firearms prohibition won’t criminalize regular people and create an illicit market is pure insanity. It’s infuriating.

    The fact of the matter on this political term “ghost guns” is that under the Gun Control Act of 1968, any citizen who has never been convicted of any crime, never been found to be mentally deficient by a judge or who is not currently under indictment, can manufacture a firearm for personal use without a license and that firearm doesn’t need a serial number.
