Wow, what an incredible video. It was perfect. Not only it’s about the food but it’s also a part of New York history. Arthur describes everything so well
Thanks for the review. I was there with a large group of people a few months ago. We tried quite a few dishes, but I can't remember much about the meal, so it must not have been very memorable.
The lunch specials are a good deal. I often get the steamed fish (described as "Buffalo" fish in the menu). I have not seen it offered as a lunch special elsewhere. Steamed perfectly every time. Flavours are simple but hard to alway right like all Cantonese cooking. Glad this old school restaurant is around.
It's good to hear that the chow fun has wok hei. I was there for a repast after a funeral and the food was delicious. It's the only time I see mushroom spring rolls. A Cantonese repast is a banquet.
I knew this place was familiar, an old friend used to love this place. But she moved away like 20 years ago. So i havent been there since. It was good back then and i am glad they are still around. I used to also go to the chinatown fair to play the arcade games back in the day.
🤔😂...you ordered 3 of my fav dishes...the beef chow fun, walnut shrimp snd fried oysters...the walnut shrimp for $23 is a little steep for 8 shrimps, the beef chow fun looked good and them oysters were crunchy...I know why people say it taste bland, their palates are not used to AUTHENTIC chinese food, simplicity is the best, it lets the food shine instead of it covered in a sauce 😊
doesnt SUN mean new? so this is NEW HOP LEE which probably means it might not be the original location but a second location have you tried capitol(peking) spare ribs? i see most places just use roasted spare ribs but the authentic places use battered spare ribs so the sauce and flavouring is absorbed into the batter of the spare ribs more efficiently, this can also be applied to salt and pepper spare ribs, my guess is not alot of places do this is because it takes extra work to batter and deep fry
It's is the original location. For some reason, many Chinese restaurants add a "new'" or some variant of the original name. There must be a reason for that. Yes Peking ribs are one of the best dishes and is ubiquitous in the restaurants I go to in New York.
Thanks for introducing this Cantonese restaurant. Will visit it when get a chance to visit NYC .
Arthur,
good job on your video. I like the way you talk. You are slow and deliberate and not over acting. I wish you well.
Thanks watching! And to be honest, I am ad libbing. I know it shows but I try not to "dial it in" when I do these. I hope these are helpful too!

Thanks! My age shows!
Walnut shrimp also sold as grand marnier shrimp. Another favorite
I did not know that! Grand Marnier sounds bougie.
I will have to come here. Beef chow fun is one of my favorites..

The buffalo fish is awesome. So light and flaky. I was truly amazed at the lunch special prices! Also, thanks for watching!
IMO old school Chinese American is the best. I'd like to see more dishes from there like the dim sum.
You have to try the salt and pepper pork chops.
Love Hop Lee

Exactly. the subtleness of Cantonese dishes don't get the credit they deserve!

Sun Hop Lee, so this is the overflow restaurant from Wo Hop and Hop Kee😂😂
can you please review Ping's sometime?
Most definitely. It's on the list!
You generally talk too long about a menu item before you taste it. It’s overkill. Talk briefly about an item then taste it already. Love the channel!
Thanks for your comment. I must restrain myself! :)
