    So much respect for your way of keeping it up all these years! Learning with the new poker gen, analyzing results, finding leaks, and most important: deep diving in what seems to be the correct way of playing/living poker after that analysis. Keep things rolling to make 2024 a nice and happy year!

    A question for your good self. But first, excellent work on the videos, as usual. Always such great insights.
    So..... what size bet from Bonomo would you get to a point where you would call there? Not as high as 50%, still a fold, right? 33%, is that more like it? Or is that still even too much for a call, considering how the hand went, and what we're putting him on....?

      I really don't understand the logic behind the "results oriented" comment. He was ahead, he knew he was ahead, the pot was 800k and his stack was under a mill, he can basically just double his stack while shoving the flop. No reason to give two players a free miracle card to beat you, I just don't get the logic at all.

  • @alicwkd

  • @johnepps5830
    @johnepps5830 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    That was so much info but it was so well explained. Damn. Thanks Daniel. Great folds and calls are everything.
    I wish I could better understand the lack of aggression after the flop.... I'm trying to think of what hands you'd be worried about being called by at that point. I guess a better ace is still a serious issue, and you made it clear a random 2 pair with a king could be a concern. I think a bet there would have won you the pot BUT as you said that's not optimal. Look. I'm an idiot 😂😂 I'm by zero means trying to say that you're wrong here. I'm trying to think out loud and hope to understand.
    If I understand it right, there's just too many hands that will call you that will beat you if you don't hit the flush so ultimately the odds aren't in your favor to bet? That has to be it.
    If there were less hands that could beat you without the flush then you would bet or conjure up a trap.
    Thinking about that is confusing as well... One of the big benefits to betting is securing the hand but if you for sure have it then you want people in. I know I'm taking about some bare basic shit right now but damn poker is complex

    honestly, i think not check/raising flop is being results oriented. if you take it down then, great. if you don't you wanna build the pot if you hit your flush while simultaneously semi-disguising that you're on a draw.

    • @dnegspoker
      @dnegspoker  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Nah you are wrong bud. If you ask me how you should play top pair and a flush draw in a spot like this I'm going to tell you to put it in your calling range rather than if you play for stacks on the flop, needing to get lucky to win the pot

    • @wfchannel4673
      @wfchannel4673 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@dnegspoker i think if you're not willing to play for stacks when you get that flop holding a6s, you should just fold pre. you can obviously release your hand if you get raised. real question is if oka stays in and does he bet river. if the answer to both is yes, then i guess the play is fine, but i still feel checkraise or fold pre are how to play this hand.

    • @moeduh
      @moeduh 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @wfchannel4673 the ego and level of ignorance to sit here and argue with one of the best pros who's been winning at the game for over 30 years at the highest levels is amazing... not only are you wrong but you're doubling down on your comments instead of talking the opportunity to learn something and be grateful to receive advice from a crusher of the game...
      listen, my friend, you don't know what you're talking about. your logic is unsound and any winning NLHE pro understands this scenario fully well. you're saying "if you played the hand preflop then you might as well get it all in when you flop a draw this good" is very poor, old school poker thinking. Daniel would be check/jamming into a board that heavily favors the range of the preflop aggressor, therefore it's theoretically suboptimal to start raising and risk your stack here. remember Dan just called pre in the BB after the open and SB call, he's going to be 3betting all the premiums that would have smashed this flop, such as AA, AK, and KK. the pre flop raiser retains all those in his range. if the flop texture was different and more favorable to the BBs preflop calling range, then you certainly can consider raising/jamming. your way of thinking is going to ensure that when Daniel shoves he always gets called by hands that have him beat, and gets instant folds from hands that were bluff c-betting. so you accomplish nothing by raising and risking your stack. which importantly was about 30bb to start the hand...
      imagine Oya has AK for example, and Daniel takes your advice and jams, Oya is going to snap call and Dan is a mathematical underdog to win the hand.. so you think that you can win long term at the game by trying to win pots all in as an underdog? this is poker, not roulette. there is nuance to the game and you're showing your lack of experience by making comments like that. this spot is a slam dunk call - low stakes losing players like yourself (I'm going to assume without asking, it's pretty obvious) see flops like this and just play their own hand instead of considering the situation and their opponents range....
      you also said Dan can check/raise and then fold if reraised all in? seriously?? he's gonna commit what, over a 1/3rd of his stack on the flop check/raising TP+NFD and then FOLD?! what the hell are you smoking. if you c/r a value hand on this flop and get jammed on you're always calling at ~30bb... that's why on this specific flop texture, as the BB caller pre, the theory would advocate for almost zero raises against a bet. you simply cannot play suboptimal, theoretically unsound poker against top professionals and expect to win long term. i can go on and on about the nuance of these spots and why your logic is losing thinking in modern hold em, but I'll call it a day and just remind you in the future to be humble, realize that you're a losing player (winning at play money on Facebook or 5 dollar home games with friends doesn't count), and that there's much, much to this game that you don't understand... if you allow yourself to learn by admitting the things that you don't know or understand, then you'll be able to gain and implement valuable logic into your game. then every time in the future you sit down to play, you'll have new plays, tricks, and ways of thinking that will help you to win more, or in a spot like this, save your stack from ruin by not overplaying a clear check/call spot. next time you flop a draw in the blinds against the preflop aggressor and you just get it all in and lose without ever considering the ranges or the flop texture, you'll day "gah damn I should have stopped arguing with a man who's won tens of millions of dollars in poker and taken his advice, he knows a thing or two that i don't!"
      good luck, you're gonna need it!!

    • @wfchannel4673
      @wfchannel4673 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@moeduh i didn't say checkjam. i said checkraise. daniel says he started the hand with 32 bigs, he never commits more than a third of his stack here unless he hits his flush (which should be the nuts), which i still think is right (if he calls, i actually strongly believe this is a fold pre once bonomo enters the pot). oya has a super wide range here that includes way more bluffs than made hands and bonomo can't have much either because the location of the ace of clubs is known. both players should fold the majority of the time, especially oya, which leaves daniel with position on bonomo, and if they don't fold you're still very likely getting a free turn and river with the opportunity to play for stacks if your flush hits rather than your opponents just folding if it comes in.
      if you do lose 10 bigs, there's not a huge difference between 22 bigs and 32 bigs at this stage of the tournament (or really any stage). daniel slides from 5th in chips to 6th in chips, and there's still a wide gap between him and last place who's the real reason to fold here pre because he's so much lower than everyone else. meanwhile daniel's about even with haxton and peters and going need to win spots to get ahead of them. half-assing a spot doesn't do that, which is why this should be a preflop fold since top pair with the nut flush draw isn't a good enough of a flop for the hand so you need to be able to turn it into bluffs sometimes if you're gonna play it and daniel shows he's not willing to do that (again why this is a fold once bonomo enters because it's such a bad bluff candidate 3-handed).
      i'm calling daniel out because i think he very specifically and intentionally gives bad advice in his vlogs in an effort to confuse players that play against him and weaken the field to his benefit. meanwhile, i did quite well in tournament poker last year. daniel cannot say the same.

    • @moeduh
      @moeduh 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wfchannel4673oh so now A6s is a pre fold from the BB 30+ bigs deep against a button (or cutoff) open and SB call?! you did well in tournaments, you say? what's your hendon mob? Dan is nowhere near the best MTT player in the world but he's 1000x better than you are and i can't believe that you are still seriously arguing your point in such a trivial and standard spot. you. are. wrong. your logic is garbage and you will never win at anything above $5 buyins long term having such poor fundamentals and a lack of basic thought processes in modern NL.
      any random fish can have a good year in MTTs, and you're obviously not a pro based on the way you're trying to talk through this spot... Daniel played enormous buyins and ended up down over a year, running poorly and playing against the absolute toughest competition on the planet. do you really think you have this spot figured out better than the guys who regularly play 100k MTTs? are you that deluded?
      look I'll offer you 10:1 on as much as you want that if any of the top MTT players in the world were presented this spot they would play it either exactly as Daniel did: call pre against the BTN/CO open and SB flat, then check/call flop given the action and proceed with turns ...OR, a small % may occasionally choose to low frequency 3bet pre (and fold facing 4bet from Oya or back raise from bonomo, but this is unlikely still given that we much prefer A2-A5 or anything better than A6). HOWEVER I can guaran-fucking-tee zero will advocate for check/raise/fold lol, to think we're going to c/r TP+NFD for, what, apparent value, and then fold???? or just flat out fold pre completing the action from the BB with such a great price? A6s, really? this is way better than plenty of other hands we'd also be defending with here, how the hell can we ever fold....brother you need to go hit the books.
      we simply cannot c/r this flop texture as the pre flop caller from the BB against the open and SB call. we have a range that simply is not strong enough to credibly rep any of the best value hands possible on this flop. without even putting it in i can bet the solver does almost zero c/r in this spot, if not absolutely 0. and if we are going to, it's going to be with bottom set for value and nothing else. you realize you'd be turning top pair and the NFD into a bluff if you were to check/raise this flop? and then we're going to stick in 12bb total out of our 32 and FOLD?
      you're the reason i love poker. there are just an endless amount of people who are so delusional and egotistical that think they have the entire game figured out, and will even sit and argue with players who have won tens of millions (no Daniel is not nearly the best player of all time but he's a competent, strong HSMTT player) and will double down when presented with irrefutable logic.
      the great thing about the game, you need to realize fast, is that there's always something new to learn. i already knew how to play this spot (as would 95%+ of winning pros) but every week i learn something new from places like this channel, to the pokergo MTT regulars, to galfond or jnandez on PLO, etc etc. i wouldn't hear galfond explain a standard spot in PLO that i might have played differently and then argue against him in the comments, he's simply way more studied than i am in PLO and if he's certain of a spot and is telling you so, say thanks for the advice and commit it to your game. you wouldn't tell Magnus carlsen he made a blunder when he moved his queen out, would you??? ya lunatic

    Seems a bit of a loose call on the flop by the SB with 2nd pair on a board that heavily favours the pre-flop raiser, no backdoors, little chance to improve and the BB behind him?

      Opener is literally cbetting close to 100% here with many hands bonomo is even in great shape against. With 2nd pair and the backdoor nut flush draw, folding getting like 5 to 1 pot odds to a smallish cbet would be absolutely criminal here. He wouldn't even flat pre if he planned to just fold to a small cbet here even 3 ways

    I probably would have jammed the flop, I imagine Bonomo would have folded the King with the ace out there and Oya would either call or fold, either way I still take down the pot but that's me I can't resist a flush draw.

    I probably would have played it exactly the same, After that flop the reality is that in most scenarios you are behind, and you need to hit your kicker or preferably hit the draw. After the king best case scenario everyone has an ace and your six isn't good. Betting on the turn gives anyone slow playing a king a chance to reraise and extract more from your flush draw.

    • @BowmanHawk
      @BowmanHawk 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I dont get the thinking. Top pair AA on flop with 2 other players. One raising lite. "extract more from your flush draw" i guess but its a draw. He has so little behind.... flops the world and slow plays it ?

    • @frederickdaroza4963
      @frederickdaroza4963 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      After the flop are you willing play for stacks with just a draw? That is what you are doing if you re-raise the flop and at this stage of the tournament the ICM implication is costly. Calling gives you a chance to hit the flush without risking everything with you as a 2 to 1 underdog. Now after the turn you are almost guaranteed behind because someone has a better ace kicker or has 3 of a kind. Bonomo isn't calling the flop without a pair or a flush draw and Daniel has a draw which makes it more likely Bonomo has trips or a better ace. Should Bonomo have raised the turn? I think he should have because an ace and a draw would probably call unless the bet was for your tournament life, but Daniel definitely can't raise with what he knows is just a draw at this point.
      Just FYI if you are playing online you might want to play it differently. Those who say the runouts online aren't ridiculous aren't being honest. You just have to look at your hand histories. And then there is the cheating.

    Respect your play, however with the money in pot and your stack... i dont see how you dont push off flop. You really want king rag to get there for 2 pair, or hit trips like this ? Another heart peels off. I feel like kings easy fold the flop on a push here. Seems like a super risky helmuth slow play move.
