    Greetings. I'm Tim of Govberg, and I'll be your guide to the proper usage and care for the TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 11 Automatic Chronograph.
    It's important to note that although this is an automatic winding timepiece, it can nevertheless be manually wound should you be cycling through your collection and want to keep the watch topped off or should it run down in the course of disuse. Simply turn the crown until you see the advance of the constant seconds indicator at 3 o'clock. Now you know the watch's balance is taken over and the automatic winding system, energized by the rotor on the case back, will continue to wind the watch up to its capacity of 40 hours in the course of natural action on the wrist.
    Now should you wish to wind the watch to capacity, continue to wind it as you can not over-wind this automatic winding timepiece. The bridal mainstream will slip and relieve any excess tension. Now there are 2 special functions of the crown for precisely setting the watch. In the second position, you can use the quick set date function of the time piece. To rapidly correct the date of the watch, in the window at 6 o'clock. This is useful should you encounter an irregular length month or should the watch run down. Now, when you pull the crown to extremity, you hack the balance, stopping the second's hand at 3 o'clock. Now, you can match the watch precisely to known accurate reference time, such as an atomic clock and match it to the second.
    It's also important to note that there is a restriction on the use of the quick set date function. It should never be actuated between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. as this is the period which the watch's own automatic date change function is engaged. Attempting to manually set the date using the quick set during that period can crash the movement and severely damage it. Always return the crown to its position flush with the case after using its functions. This is essential to maintaining the rated 100 meter water-tight integrity of the watch as advertised from the factory.
    TAG Heuer advises that functions of the watch, such as the chronograph pushers as well as the crown and all of its setting functions, should never be engaged when the watch is wet or submerged, as this can bypass the seals and undermine the water-tight integrity, introducing water to the interior of the water.
    TAG Heuer also advises that leather straps, such as this calf skin on the Monaco Calibre 11 are not water-resistant in any fashion and should never be exposed to moisture, as this will rapidly age and degrade this porous, natural material. Seals age, lubricants dry up. TAG represents that the watch should be serviced yearly, with respect to water-resistance, checked or corrected at an authorized retailer. This is important, because water-resistance degrades far faster than the running, mechanical condition of the movement. Check annually and replace or relubricate the seals, if necessary, at an authorized retailer.
    Now, TAG Heuer also advises that certain extreme conditions should be avoided, including high temperatures and low temperatures outside the bounds of 0 degrees Celsius and 50 degrees Celsius. That's roughly 32 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The watch is not designed to be used outside this range and those extremes should be avoided at all costs. Moreover, magnetism is a significant concern to a mechanical watch as the hair spring on the balance can become magnetized, resulting in deviant performance, take the watch to an authorized TAG Heuer retailer where specialized equipment is available to de-magnetize the hair spring of the watch and restore it's chronometric performance.
    Finally, with respect to service beyond water-testing, TAG Heuer recommends every 4 to 6 years, depending on the performance and usage of your watch, taking the watch to an authorized factory boutique or independent retailer where specialized equipment, trained personnel, and original factory replacement parts are available to preserve the chronometric performance of your watch as well as it's investment value. Moreover, only these agencies are authorized to provide a TAG Heuer replacement part and service warranty.
    Finally, with respect to the use of the chronograph of the watch, it's important to note that it must be actuated in a certain sequence. The pusher at 2 o'clock starts and stops the watch. Now, the watch can be started, stopped, and re-started with no hazard, but it must always be stopped for actuating the restart trigger at 4 o'clock. It's important to always start, stop, and reset in that order as attempting to reset a moving chronograph function can severely damage the watch.

      Don't worry, it's not too delicate, but the proper usage and care will help maintain the watch for many years to come.

      You make it sound like every mechanical watch isn't extremely delicate. A watch consists of dozens of mechanical parts that have to precisely work together, of course it's going to be delicate. It's like owning a Ferrari and being surprised that it needs to be serviced more frequently than a Land Rover Defender.

    It really sounds like you are trying to dissuade anyone from buying this watch, camouflaging it like “proper maintenance” concern. Don’t get me wrong, I take what you say with the authority your firm musters, but, for the benefit of us who are considering to part with 5k on a watch we would appreciate your true thoughts. It simply gives you more credibility

    Hi, because the crown is on the left so should winding be the other way round?

    • @marcusnns
      @marcusnns 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The crown is to the left to remind the wearer of the watch that it's not needed to rewind, because it's an automatic.

    This isn't a review; it's a rant...about all the bad things that will happen to this Monaco if a highly disciplined (and potentially costly) system of maintenance, care, and operational do's 'n don'ts isn't strictly observed. Anything positive about this timepiece?

  • @Olumin37
    @Olumin37 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The problem I have with this piece at the price they are demanding is that the movement is not in house and isn't COSC certified, At a price of 5 something grand that's not too much to ask. I know that they use a top grade movement which is adjusted to COSC standard but its not certified, not every individual piece, so there is NO guarantee for its accuracy.

    I used to really like Tag....not sure why lol.
    I had an aquaracer and was not impressed, although it was pretty.
    Then I sold it and bought a Stowa and I think it's much nicer in terms of quality and fit and finish.
    Of course, taste and opinion varies, and to each their own.

      For this model, Tag Heuer actually recommends servicing every 4-6 years. The one year you are referring to lines up with water resistance testing. Gaskets can dry out and chemicals or salt water can damage them. This testing ensures that the watch continues to stay water resistant to it's 100m rating.
