      @@vintagedrumrestorationgara91 Bruce. Have you noticed the snares choking the bottom head? Mine did and I put a couple of wraps of tape around the bridges to lower the snares. Drum came alive! Remember the older models, the bridges were adjustable.

      Glad to have you aboard Ira! There should be some new vids up soon. I have been swamped with painting my house and other things before it gets TOO HOT here in Phoenix. Stay tuned friend. Cheers, Bruce

    Came out great! It’s funny cuz I used bees wax on the inside of one of my snares I transformed. Just got the urge to do it. I have it around for using on screws after drilling pilot holes. Ha!

    • @vintagedrumrestorationgara91
      @vintagedrumrestorationgara91  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the bees wax or floor wax gives the wood a little lubrication and hopefully keeps it from cracking. Cheers, Bruce

    Nice job! I thought that all the staining had to be done before applying the laquer.

    I admire your patience through all the steps to get a good finish. It definitely pays off, the drum looks awesome.. a far cry from the state it was in at the first video. In addition to all the work getting it back into round, and accepting of standard heads. Great job.

      Also Bruce, maybe a future video idea....really polar opposite beliefs out there about cleaning/not cleaning cymbals. I don't know how much of a cymbal afficianado you are, but if you do clean, what's your technique or product of choice? For general maintenance and especially those greenish tarnish stains. I do a lot of garage sale and flea market looking for cheap older or not so well taken care of drums and cymbals, so those green stains are common in my world!

      @@robertbyerley9727 Hi Robert.... All of my cymbals are dark green ( old 50s 60s Ks). I never clean my cymbals ( more of a jazzer) and when I did in the past, I always regretted it. The dirtier the better in my book. I know guys that actually used to bury their cymbals in the earth for months just you get them to turn green. Thanks friend. Bruce

    This snare shell is watching the best lawn Dart battle ever to come through a head.
    My own insanity aside… I am looking forward to seeing how this adventure culminates.
    I have recently used instant coffee as my wood dye with success. Also… I have employed wood hardener at the same time improving both the look and tone of shells needing mucho help in their quality of construction materials. End of self indulgent story.
    I have been enjoying this shells adventure!

      Nice to hear from you BC! I have used coffee to tone down the whiteness of WMP pearl to match more yellowed shells, so yes your method has proven usefull once again. Thank God for coffee! Cheers, Bruce

    Looks good Bruce! Originally I was thinking you were going to try to save the old dilapidated wrap. Good save!

    • @vintagedrumrestorationgara91
      @vintagedrumrestorationgara91  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Kevin.... Once the shell is shaved inward on the edges the wrap would not fit. Plus like I said in the previous video, there are countless WMP RKs in the world and this one is now up and running and fits any heads one desires. Cheers, Bruce

    A great series Bruce! It was quite an adventure. I wonder if in a future video, you could touch on original tension rods from the various manufacturers. It seems like every time I start to think I can identify one as a vintage Slingerland, Ludwig, etc. tension rod, I see an ad that claims originality but has different rods than I expect. Many thanks for sharing your expertise.

    • @vintagedrumrestorationgara91

      Good idea Duane. I have good knowledge of different Companies tension rods, not all but most. I will see what I can do on that. Cheers, Bruce

    do you have any experience buffing vistalites to make them less cloudy? either way thanks for all you do! your videos are very informative!

    • @vintagedrumrestorationgara91
      @vintagedrumrestorationgara91  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have buffed VLs but not with much luck. They look better but only the shine, not the cloudiness. Not saying there isnt a way. Its just not something I have really gone into. Thanks for being here. Cheers, Bruce

    What glue did you use and what grit paper did you final sand with?

    • @vintagedrumrestorationgara91
      @vintagedrumrestorationgara91  ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually use a quality Woodworkers glue which is aliphatic resin. Its water soluble and works well. You will have to watch the vids to get the grits. I always say what grit I am using at whatever stage I am in on the restoration. Thanks, Bruce
