Arturo has amazing flexibility! He's the only one I know who can play the pedal tones so musically. I remember him and Dizzy playing Night in Tunisia and I saw the video in 7th grade. That made me decide that I'm going to be serious with the trumpet. Now a freshman, I still have that desire thanks to him.
To play at this level much skill and talent is required. Thousands of trumpets players with varying levels of determination cant come close to this level of playing. Most individuals don't have enough of an ear to play professionally and that is pure talent. The ability to improvise is another TALENT that is necessary...without it you can't progress!! Desire is only ONE facet of what is needed, not all that is needed.
I recently read Arturo's biography, I did not regret it AT ALL! it's an extremely interesting read and shows that this man was a man like any other who's first lesson was a disaster, but he didn't give up (thank God). he plays 100% from the heart. I don't believe he's ever played a note that's not musical
@JAZZOLOGIST1 I sincerely believe that skill has NOTHING to do with it directly. When you want to be a certain way (or sound a certain way) the skills will happen naturally. It's all about desire... Arturo has desire to be great, so he is
Meu Professor é o Geovanne Desidério Ele Toca Bastante bem em Geral... Agudos- Graves- Longas- Medias...
Lovely performance, great feeling, how I admire you/.
Wow. Nice to hear him play rather than just scretch. Very nice.

@tpstrat14 Cheating the government of Castro, is a movie about his escape from Cuba, Gillespie helped him when they played on tour in Europe.

I could so hear the changes during his trumpet solo cadenza.
@sydpotter i totally agree that his ego is elephant-sized.... however his music is honest so I love him...

Playing trumpet increases the lung capacity of the player
