Woodland Birdking III is my favorite and what I use at the start of each battle. It has Lunar Lunge (Polearm attack all, as well as party bonus speed up, physical attack up, physical defense up for 2-3 turns). It’s amazing! Can find it in Southern Timberain Trail. You can also get multiple turns before the boss acts when used and stacked in boss fights.
There is also Peakaboo found in Merry Hills Area at Night. This monster deals Staff Damage and a chance to reduce Physical Defense as well as ELemental Defense. Really great when setting up a Big Damage Turn as this is one of the best sources of Elemental Defense Down when you want to boost Oswald or Temenos' Damage.
Great video! Early game I really prioritized the double-hit monsters for shield breaking, until I was able to capture Light Revenant, Devourer of Dreams, etc. Now I'm near the end game and the 9,999 damage limit is making them less useful since Ochette can out-damage them. I'm going to pick up some of these late game shield breaking monsters, thanks!
Yeah its the main reason why I dont like running them. I'm currently only using Dreadwolf, because with some BP shenanigans its rly handy to grind exp with the damage it does for basically free. Aside from that though, I dont rly use any boss monsters, because you dont need that amount of damage for most random encounters, and for any boss or longer battle I'd much rather have something I can use multiple times.
If you have multiple level 10 monsters and use the shark first to boost you BP you can get 2 level 10 monster attacks in a very short time and take out a big chunk of a bosses health I usually use 3 bosses shark scourge and the other one is whatever I want and the rest is rare spawn enemies like octopuffs to buff me or debuff the enemy
@@CoatTee It's true. The monster mechanic in this game really was a pleasant surprise. Ochette's whole character was a surprise. I'm usually really annoyed by the cat-girl in JRPGs, but Ochette is so good. Hers was the first story I finished. I love monster catching and converting to different food. It's so satisfying. I also liked that early on, she was a nice double hitter to break, and now her monsters carry me through bosses with buffs and healing.
Great video! I would love a video on the best NPCs to guide/hire/(etc) with Temenos, Agnea, Partitio, and Ochette if you have some tips! You could break it down by money saving tips for Partitio, as well as their usefulness in battle?
Basically, what you're looking for, mid to end game, is "-kin King". Aviankin, lizardkin, ratkin, froggen, etc. The animal people with weapons. Kin Kings level II will generally do a double weapon attack on all, while Kin King III will usually do a single target double weapon attack, with a buff or debuff to go with it. III seems like a downgrade, random mobs can be taken out better with Battle-worn Shark, and the debuffs are better on bosses, with their adds gone. Boss adds are the reason you'd have Kin King II's in your party at all, and only if they had weaknesses in common.
My Top Monsters all found by myself are: Headless Horseman(just Cool + offensive Buffs ), Chubby Cait(OP If lucky), Frogking2(prefer the Double Axe Slash vs ALL to double slash vs ONE with only 50% chance of debuff lol), Ancient LizardmanV(very efficient), Ancient Stone "Giant" lol forgot Name(Mighty Light attack plus Multiple Party Buffs but only summonable with 4 BP's like Bosses) and Storm Eagle/Bird 2(2 spear Thrusts vs ALL) Ps. Gonna check out the Shark Boss soon xD Pps. Ochette is AMAZING
light ravenant really shine early to mid game but u can start dropping that after u get the shark then focusing on capturing shield breaker and buffer/debuffer monsters..
Dreadwing… not very strong attack but 20% insta death and hits all targets. Edit- I’m using it to clear the first stage pf the secret boss… still working on why am failing with second part
I'm not exactly involved with the fanbase, so I don't have a pulse on what's truly good or not (if something like that exists anyway), but there's something I've been wondering. Personally I prioritize breaking shields and, since you can't aim who the monsters target by default, I always thought the most versatile option was having a full team of captured monsters that could Double-Hit all enemies with different weapons (Sword all the way through to Staff), so I find it curious how the regular, non-rare enemies pointed out in the video tend to be single target, even though I understand enfeebling and enhancing effects can be beneficial. Would it be worthwhile to go for options like that in comparison? So far I've set up Ochette with: Vagrant Birdking II (Double Slash on All)... Ancient Froggen V (Double Thrust on All)... Ancient Birdian V (Double Stab on All)... Ancient Frogking II (Double Cleave on All)... Ancient Birdking II (Double Shot on All)... ...and Frost Moleking II (Double Bash on All). Admittedly this last one is a good tier or two lower in power than the rest, so I've been looking for a better option. Unfortunately I've been remaining fruitless so far-- been trying to look for an... Ancient? Lizardking II that can give me Double Bash (All) but no luck (I noticed Ancient/Vagrant variations tend to be in very similar power tiers).
There are a lot of good monsters. The ones I picked are mostly based on being good overall, but are all great for the end game bosses. It was a hard choice on what to show without making the video super long, so that was how I decided in the end
Mhm, the way I see it is all the monsters can be good, it just on your preference. From what I noticed the monsters that hit more than once focus on shield break while the others focus on status effects. The ones I have hit the whole group one while providing decent stat boosts
Bro I am so far behind in this game. I didn’t play Octopath 1, and I decided I’d do everyone’s first chapter first… and maybe because I’d never played the series before but I’m 20 hours in and just finished all of the first chapters. Any time I watch videos I realize how much more time I get to sink into this game. But I feel super far behind. Does anyone have/know of any good beginner/early-mid game videos or wikis or anything? There is a lot to the game, and the best way to play is to just play and explore and use the videos as helpful guides when you need or want to know about certain tropics. I was late to playing these games myself, and enjoying the experience and finding my own play style ia what makes so fun

Can't find gengar lol
For big damage ,you can just nuke most bosses in turn 1
Spiny Eel, dagger (All) and party SP regen (provoke beasts is costly)
Headless Horseman, sword (All) party P.ATK and CRIT up
Headless horseman sets up Hikari to absolutely melt enemies especially when they have a defense break.

I really wish lvl 10 monsters weren't so restricted. Either have them cost max boost or be once per fight but not both.
Yeah, I agree, especially since their damage is capped as they don't get a boost from more damage delt skill
There is a glitch where you can use them all without expending it but I know a lot of people aren’t comfortable with using this glitch.

light ravenant really shine early to mid game but u can start dropping that after u get the shark then focusing on capturing shield breaker and buffer/debuffer monsters..
i only have light revenant its not a boss monster but still requires max boost.good light damage + def buffs
Light revenant is a good early game but falls off a lot mid - and late game, especially for a one-time use
the shark is so busted, especially for random encounters
One best captures you can get! Dose alot in a lot of different situations
Another sick video dude!
Gotta catch em all😂
Another highly recommendation : Headless Horseman, found in Ku sand. It has 9/10 rate and attack with sword + boost your attack 2 turns
That was one of the ones I thought about putting, but i didn't want to show too many options
And on top of the attack buff it also grants a crit buff
I wasnt gonna play octopath traveler 2 until i saw that 1 of the characters can tame monsters

Capturing or killing should reward you with the same exp and JP but congrats on capturing one! I'm not sure why you wouldn't get any JP for it tho🤔
Revenants shouldnt be once per battle, they arent bosses and they are kinda meh for the tradeoff of being one per battle use.
