Yes Cows are sacred here. They have feeded us during femines for thousands of years (they can even eat tree's barch and still be milkable) , we have been mixing their dung with mud for plastering for thousands of years. Villagers used to milk them in morning and let them go loose during daytime, when they grazed all day. And then they will return to home without needing any guidance from cowboys/ shepherds and be ready to milked again.
Male cows (Bullocks) used to be main source of farm cultivation as they made all our farms fertile by their sheer strength just after a kharif or rahi crop is cut.
We owe them a lot. Relationship between cows and humans is sacrosanct now.
Just coz we need them lesser now due to advent of modern tech doesn't mean that we will start killing them in reversible ways.
This species will always be reverred and worshiped here in land of Bharata till end of times. Period. We are'nt known for ditches.
For humans residing of India this is so complex and tough to understand.
Lord Krishna has also emphasized on this love for cows (and usefulness may differ from time to time) but it doesn't mean we will become disregardful of them at any point of time.
Hope this detail explanation is able to clarify atleast 1% of Indian Hindu's mindset.
    Om shanti. 🙏

After the Mughals period, the first to arrive were Portuguese who came as traders. The British, Dutch, Danes, and French followed.

Walking barefoot was very normal in ancient India. Most of our lifestyle habits are influenced by the environment we live in. The temperature in India is warm for a large region of the country.
    - India being in tropicals, it is easier to walk bare foot, if one wants to.
    - All the cultural and religious norms in India which require bare feet because of that also it is very common here.
    - Also, It is very important to walk barefoot. It energizes many vital organ systems.
So basically it comes naturally to those who're not really use to wear shoes in their daily lives.

Inside homes people walk barefoot or have a different pair of slippers that they do not take outside. It is to keep it clean. Also, you cannot wear slippers in temples. Same reason.

Walking barefoot concept of India is thousands of years old...
    - When you are walking around inside the house (we always keep it super clean). Our floors are usually made of marbles and in winter covered with rugs.
    - When we are performing pooja (prayers or rituals) to the gods/ goddess or visit a temple (to worship God)
    - Barefoot walking or exercising on clean grass is quite common as well and quote beneficial for one's health.
Everywhere else we wear the appropriate footwear.

But yes there are instances when we walk bare foot, at homes, while in temples, performing any rituals, during Navaratri festivals people do fast for 9 days where they give up footwears, also there is a temole in Mumbai where we go walking barefeet to the temple.

Cows are considered sentient and pious beings. They are considered sacred. Actually taking care of cows is even considered a type of sadhana. It also resolves some our minor bad karmas (performed unconsciously), evil eye, etc. Cow worship is essential for Krishna devotees. It is said like humans, cows also have all the Gods residing in them. So they are also like an idol in that way. Feeding cows is also helpful in resolving some horoscopic shortcomings. If I make cow happy, then God is also happy. So feeding them definitely brings good karma. Killing a cow is equivalent to killing a human. Reason - They are like our mother, also because they are emotional creatures. Thanks ❣

@@zuzanareactsactually ancient people involved good things into the religion like the Fasting, meditating, donating etc.
Cow are considered sacred because we drink cow milk after the mothers milk, when the farmers don't get the yield in farming, the cow will feed his whole family by giving milk, male cows helps in the farming,
Cow dung is a good fertilizer,a natural biofuel,India actually exports cow dung in large quantity.
Cow is like a pet similar to dog, actually cow understand and react if you call its name.
Do harming a cow is considered bad, in village cow is a part of family they have their name, even in family photo cow would be present.

If we ignore the trade that ancient India used to have with Egyptian, Greek and Roman empires, then we come to the middle ages when India was discovered for the first time by the Portuguese, particularly by Vasco Da Gama. Christopher Columbus would have had the honours had he not sailed the opposite way and landed in modern day America and labelling the natives as "Indians".

West disposes off all wild animals or unaccounted for animals if they come near roads or habitat and claims to be champion of animal rights, while in India we truly believe everyone including all types of animal truly have equal right, there be always be someone who will feed a animal, and noone will die out of hunger, and we just learn to live with each other peacefully, even if it becomes a inconvenience, like road blocked etc. Mother is most important and respected in Indian tradition, so even country and land becomes Mother India. A mother gives milk and nourishes us, since cows also provide milk for human consumption, they too are treated like mothers, since you cant eat your mother, hence cows/beef cant be consumed by those who believe in Sanata Dharma or Karma. Generally left over food or extra roti cooked are given to cows/dogs or any other animal which can be found nearby. In India you will rarely find animals behaving aggressively to humans, as their and humans experience is that off co-existence
