Wow, what a wild ride (along Fifth Avenue, of course) this one was! Thoroughly enjoyed scrutinizing the contents with you from my tiny 1 bedroom rental apartment, lol 🧐🎩💎🥂💵
admittedly, i've never flipped through a T&C magazine in my life, but i had no idea it revolved so much around the NYC elite just...flexing their wealth like that? the way this issue just repeatedly called me poor was crazy lol (but so much fun! extra points for that woman in the insane wizard hat and the villainous organ music playing over that Trump article 😂)
I'm familiar with the name and correct pronunciation of "Stuyvesant" (It's "STIE" like "tie" and "ves-sant" ) Because I lived in NY for many years and I know alot of New Yorkers from the Bed-Stuy neighborhood in Brooklyn! There's also a famous, elite, academic HS named Stuyvesant High School that I'm familiar with. Stuyvesant was a significant figure in NYC history, so....the name is plastered on important spaces and places. 😊
I can't get over what a hidden gem your channel is... your sense of humor and all the effort you put into editing (I know it's a lot) make your videos truly a treat! Town & Country and the New York Times Magazine were *the* aspirational rich people magazines of my middle class 80s-90s Connecticut childhood. I still kind of love that late 80s-early 90s aesthetic, the "American Psycho" kind of vibe, or the Whit Stillman film "Metropolitan" (you can find clips on youtube). It was like so modern and futuristic, while also hanging onto that stuffy and stodgy antique stuff. Power suits, pearls, harsh makeup, hairspray, black sheer pantyhose, "luxury" buildings that were like dark green marble with gold accents, dressing kids up in anachronistic outfits. It's all so tacky and camp in retrospect but at the time it was soooo chic. Love that you take the time to appreciate all the little details. This episode was great! p.s. maybe "Bachelor Ball" meant something besides unmarried straight men? It was 1989 after all... not exactly the world we're in today
Thank you, Lisa! I'm happy this one resonated with you. Such an alien world to me as a born and bred midwesterner, but wow is it fascinating. I watched the trailer for Metropolitan - it's like this magazine came to life!
the editing gets me every.single.time. XD 37:24 they r called pave diamonds i loooooved this magazine,so cool,so 80's,my fave era i wanna go back there XD
My Mom ordered Gevalia. They did offer tea once upon a time, too. I loved watching you slip through. I did have a canister from Gevalia! I am Gen X and turned 14 late in 1989. Before internet, folks had this. Clothes were made with better quality fabrics . Malls were better. Things really have changed. Parents made so much more money than I do. Times are so different.
Thank you for creating a moment of calm in this tumultous world 🤗 i check your subscriber count every time, and am still flabberghasted you dont have more viewers. 🤷🏼♀️
Your videos are curing my mental illness. Thank you.

Thanks for watching! TBH I think I'd rather have a cute, warm little apartment than a huge ugly penthouse.
Catching up on your videos, and you are definitely my favorite TH-cam channel ever ❤
Aw, thank you so much! :)

Ha! Yes, this publication really became something I was not expecting but I loved the peek into a completely different way of life. Seems exhausting!

@@Zanaaa50 Thank you - I knew there had to be a more elegant way to pronounce it.
@ColeChickering Oh, you're good and plenty "elegant" 😊

Pave diamonds - yes, that sounds familiar now!

Gevalia's unrelenting marketing strategy is fascinating to me. Did you ever drink it? Is it good?
I was gonna say the cover model looks like a Bob Mackie Barbie doll - and of course I can see on the contents page that she is in fact wearing BM ❤
Yes, she really does look like a real life Mackie doll! I should have clocked him as the designer, who else could be so over the top?
I think this channel is my version of ASMR
I love to hear that. I know how dear to me the ASMR channels I watch are, so that means a lot!
Even though our circumstances were very challenging, my Grandmother always made sure I had a subscription to Town and Country and Newsweek.
The essentials!
33:44 this music edit is 🤌🤌🤌
Ha! Glad someone noticed 🪄
T&C was always the best price magazine of this type.
More T&C to come in the new year, so stay tuned!

Thanks for watching and getting calm with me!

You got my attention when you said Peugeot! It’s pronounced a bit like PIHR-jo (in the UK at least)
Aha! Thank you. Sounds much nicer that way. 🚗
I mean, that squirrel wanted inside her hat so bad and was just polite enough to look at the camera before making his entrance…
A squirrel that loves fashion AND being professionally photographed? Sounds very Fifth Avenue.
