As the owner of a Black 2012 F-150 and as someone who has wanted a Raptor since seeing them years ago, I really appreciated this perspective. I don't worry about treating my truck like a truck, and I probably would if I owned a Raptor. Thanks for the perspective!
It's making sure that what you get YOU own and it doesn't OWN you. I had some motorbikes and cars that i'm like oh no what if it gets scratched? Oh I need to really find some spacious parking, etc, they owned me. Now I have a bike that i just get on, go wherever, do whatever, I own it.
I would say a '22 Lariat cost almost as much as that Raptor. If you won't treat a raptor like a truck I doubt you would treat a Lariat like one. About 2 years ago I was about to buy a 2020 Lariat. They had a 2018 Raptor on the lot with 15K miles on it. I chose the Raptor, Love that truck. I would not say I beat it as hard as my 2010 XLT but I definitely don't baby it. I bought it to drive it and enjoy it on and off road. It goes hunting and gets filthy. You gotta get over what it costs in your head. It's only money.
I hear ya. I owned a 2014 Raptor then a 2021 while in the Middle East Loved it, better than any sports car I've owned - apart from the interior trim being crappy. I dearly miss owning them, use to haul my boat no prob or take us out into the desert for an evening BBQ easily. I've love one in UK except they wouldn't fit being 2.2m wide and 6m long (makes a RR look small) and with the UK fuel prices... 10mpg is no fun on the wallet
I loved this! I remember asking a friend to help me move a couch one time because he had a truck and he said he couldn't because it might scratch his bed. I now own a 2004 F150 5.4 v8 that I bought for 2,500 bucks and fixed up and have moved many couches, rocks, bricks, brush, whatever and I admit it has gotten a bit scratched up, and I couldn't be happier. It is currently my favorite TOOL. Something happens to it, oh well, tools are made to be used.
Honestly, the driving around town thing checks out. I have a bright red Audi s5 and I get those same texts all the time. When I drive the other vehicle (Hyundai Elantra) I feel stealthy af. Great move Pete, enjoyed this one 👍🏼

100% relate, I’m in the UK so raptors aren’t really a thing. But I have a ranger, and man I love it. It’s my work horse, taking me to and from site loaded with gear, not a care in the world because it’s so solid. I had sporty cars in the past, I just spent all my time worrying about them and buying new tyres, it sucked! Everyone else enjoyed them more than I did. More people need to be honest with themselves, just like you in this video. Respect.

I have a Black Silverado. I love it and have customized a few things, but I use it as a truck. I could never spend $70k+ on a truck that I actually use as a truck.
I mean, don't feel too bad. Most people with Raptors and Tremors and Shelbys don't use them as trucks OR take them off-road. My 2011 F150 is an FX4 that's basically a Lariat, 6.5ft bed with tailgate step, max tow package, tow mirrors, etc and i use every bit of it. It was $21K 5 years ago. Don't even need to bother with a new truck. Enjoy your new truck!

You didn’t say what engine you got in the lariat. I’ve traded in many vehicles because of color. Just got my Gen3 after three Gen2, black, blue and leadfoot. Finally got the color I wanted. White. Life is short. Do what you want. But you’ll be back. Lol.
4:40 I know that feeling. I have a misty violet 2008 civic. Now civic is not a very common car in my area. There are 4 or 5 civics and there is only one violet civic in a 50km radius. So everyone who knows me, knows where I am. I get calls when I'm driving it "bro, you at the hospital? What happened?" Or something else. Now, I am happy that people care about me but privacy is something that I want. Mainly because I am not a very sedate driver. Any recklessness and people know that pretty much instantly in my circle. And being a teenager, that ain't a good thing.

Trucks are supposed to be trucks. Like what the heck is the deal with the 5' beds. You are supposed to be able to put a 4'x8' sheet of plywood in the back. This is my biggest issue with the 'new' trucks...that and the stupid price tags for a tool!

I have a 2nd gen super cab Raptor and I use it like a truck. Not like a contractor, mind you, but I haul stuff in it multiple times a week. I’m still careful and spend a little extra time making sure stuff isn’t going to scratch the paint and dent the bed, but I use it.
