Hi Lee, I'm almost 65, and my musical world completely changed in the early 70's when I heard Pink Floyd and Genesis. I also fell in love with this Supertramp album in 1974, every track is great. I hope you will one day react to "Rudy" which is my absolute favorite. Their next 2 albums ("Crisis? What Crisis?" and "Even In The Quietest Moments" also contain gems. Have a nice day.

Me too! I'm 63 and was introduced in '74 to Yes, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, among many others... and, of course, Supertramp. I agree with everything you say.

Hide in Your Shell and Asylum would be a 5-star doubleheader. Rudy - a chef's kiss! Same with Dreamer. I will say it again - this album contains the very best of Supertramp. There are other great Supertramp tunes but this album is outstanding from the drop of the needle to the dead wax.

This tour opened with Rick Davies playing this harmonica line behind a closed curtain. As the curtain slowly opened the guitar faded in and when Roger began singing they were full opened. The show finished with Crime Of The Century and as that harmonica line played the curtains closed…. Total class act Supertramp.

Lee, you commented on just how good these guys sound together. But they had the good fortune of hiring two of the best engineers/producers in the business. Ken Scott worked on 'Crime of the Century' and Geoff Emerick did 'Even in the Quietest Moments'. Both men worked under George Martin at Abbey Road, contributing to The Beatles music dating back to the beginning around 1963-64, and Geoff Emerick was the primary engineer on 'Revolver' and 'Sgt. Pepper', for which he won a Grammy in 1968. I believe that was the first time the Grammy's included the engineer category in their annual awards show. Just another example of what a landmark album 'Sgt. Pepper' really was and how it changed the music industry from the inside out...

This is a fantastic album! It's not a concept album, but you get the feelings of conditioning and insecurities at the different stages of life through the songs. Two things... first... now take this song straight into Bloody Well Right with no pause... makes Bloody Well that much better. Secondly, and more importantly, hearing one Supertramp song from their earlier albums makes you need to hear more. If you want to hear them at early prog, listen to their first two albums, Supertramp and Indelibly Stamped... yet 2 more albums with different sounds for the same band. Love your reactions and your honest feelings on the songs you react to.

'School' segues neatly into 'Bloody Well Right.' Back then bands crafted the order of their tracks on albums to convey moods or tell a story, so you should listen to them together even if you don't share.
This track is all about conformity in the state school system in England (see also Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick in the Wall'). Things loosened up in the 1990s, but in the last decade they've put it all back and are turning out depressed and angry students again.
