2024 Toyota Corolla Cross XLE Review - A Better Value Than A RAV4?

  • The 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross redefines what a subcompact crossover is by truly being a utility vehicle rather than being a lifted hatchback like so many competitors in this market. In a segment where the Corolla Cross goes head to head with the Honda HR-V, Subaru Crosstrek, and Mazda CX-30, Toyota might have an appealing alternative.
Huge thank you to AutoFair Toyota in Tewksbury, MA for providing this Toyota Corolla Cross XLE for this review.

2 years with my Cross, XLE-AWD, it is an excellent daily driver for around town- for some light camping. Its not a RAV 4 thats a whole different level! Dont underestimate this vehicle for a single person or two person vehicle. Maybe its ok for a young family with one small child.
I take my on light off-road-works really well-you will go further in a RAV 4.

For me, the Corolla cross is the new matrix, and the Corolla hatchback is the new Yaris. To me, it makes sense because The Buick encore (GX) Is basically a modern interpretation of the Pontiac vibe, and the Chevy Trax is literally an evolved Saturn VUE.

I wanted a Rav 4. But when me and my fiance saw it, we said it was way to big. It wouldn't go in our garage...
So we then looked at Corolla Cross, test drove it and totally fell in love with the car. Now we gonna get our Corolla Cross Executive in october and i can't wait for it to be here😍😍😍

I'm 6'2" and have an extra few inches of leg and head room in the back seat, even with the front seat set for me. It's unbelievably spacious for such a small vehicle.

I'll have to disagree with the legroom behind the driver's seat, I'm 6ft tall and 5 footers complain about how tight the legroom is in My 2024 XLE. Moving the seat up a few inches for my passenger's convenience helps without affecting my driving position too much.

You failed to answer the question, is it better value than a rav4?

In my opinion. Get the Corolla Cross. Nobody wants them.they were European first.
      Great vehicle.

My 2024 Cross XLE AWD replaces the 2017 Toyota Sienna SE people hauler and It's quite a change but, I drive a lot less these days, and having a vehicle that offers great gas mileage, comfort, and adequate power is sufficient. A used Rav4 3 years old costs more than a new Toyota Cross which at least you don't have to guess how it was driven. If you're a Shade tree mechanic, The Cross is easy to service and maintain. People don't take Toyota's 2-year free maintenance as a given, Replace your oil every 6 months and not at one year or 10K miles as prescribed by the manufacturer. Obviously, Anyone who drives 10K in short periods should change their oil more often because oil is cheap, and engine repairs are costly.

Just test Drove the 2024 Kona. I hated the suspension and transmissions. But, it was feature packed and very roomy. You're saying this vehicle has more space then the new 2024 Kona?

This car is not sub compact. It's almost as big as a rav4. What's the point?

I'll have to disagree, I drove the 2024 Rav4 XLE AWD and It's a boxier vehicle with comfortable seating for 5. My 2024 Cross XLE AWD has a smaller rear seating area and 3 people in the back can get testy depending on the size of your passengers. As for ride and noise, The Rav4 2.5 engine droned aloud louder than my Crosses 2.0 engine and the ride was a bit better. The Cross is easy to maneuver and squeezes into many areas the Rav4 can't and for 34K the Cross is adequate versus 50k or more for the Rav4.

For my "exquisite tastes", I find the inside boring and cheap. I would only consider the XSE Hybrid -- but none of the dealers around a 50-mile radius have one available. All are pre-sold, with a 4-8 month delivery date. I don't need one until October, but would like to test drive one before deciding to shell out $36,000 for hybrid with convenience package. Oh, and the local dealers that do have them (again, pre-sold), all of them have a sticker price ABOVE MSRP, with such add on equipment as roof cross-rails, mudflaps, floor mats, and "dealer stuff". Sorry, but I will not play that game anymore!! Reliability is less a factor when leasing for only 3 years, so it's either a high-tech Hyundai Kona or KIA Niro PHEV. Plus, I'll be eligible for federal and state tax credits off MSRP for the EV or PHEV versions, so they will be cheaper than a Toyota! Finally, no dealer markups!

It's the base SUV-not a RAV4, it is a well made simple less expensive vehicle for basic needs with ample room. Don't know what you expect- but I prefer this vehicle for the price over all its direct competition at this price range. I test drove all of them- I liked the Forester the best but it was significantly much more expensive. If you have the cash get the Forester- the Subaru Cross Trek is nice but it has less room compared to the Cross- depends on your likes and needs.

It is made in a factory that produces both Mazdas and Toyotas. It is a joint venture. It is a Toyota using Toyota parts!
