  • In this video, I show you how to install adjustable wire shelving. This third bedroom is going to be a new nursery for our twin boys so by using adjustable shelving, it was going to be easier for organizing as time goes by.

    I like wire shelves! They're not dust catchers and they provide ventilation for anything sitting on them. Especially in humid climates. They're neat, functional and versatile. Well done! ❤

    I actually like my wire shelves! Instead of installing a closet rod I use the little slots on the shelf to perfectly evenly space my hangers and it is soooo satisfying.

    I am a fan of this type shelving. To protect me from myself I cover cardboard with sticky-back shelf paper and create flat surface shelves. I find the best prices on Amazon. I have also spray painted cardboard in a pinch but eventually covered the paint with paper. The system is sturdy and widely accessible. TWINS!!! Congratulations! Your small home will be filled with laughter, love, fun and happiness.

    Again, congrats on the twins! I had 8 children, but only 1 at a time. I cannot imagine having double duty like that, though I know many have made it through. Make sure you take care of your wife and please ask for (and accept) lots of help from others. As for the video, those shelves are perfect for a child's closet! Loved your thorough (as always) explanation of what you were doing! Happily waiting for the next video you post!

    I designed and installed these shelves when they came out over30 years ago. As an interior designer myself, these are EXCELLENT space efficient storage. Much better quality than melamine covered fiberboard and better quality than most wood. Definitely more space efficient than any wood closet I'd ever seen. The ONLY time I would consider wood shelving is if I were converting a bedroom into a closet. Installed properly, these shelves are very sturdy. Most contractor type installations are NEVER done properly. My shelves have been up for 27 years, fully loaded, not a single failure and I rarely concentrate on finding a stud, I simply install properly. Big tip #1 - do not use a 1/4" drill bit for installing the back clips with the attached 1/4" anchors. Use a 15/64" bit - it gives a slightly tighter fit.
    I've never used the adjustable brackets, they do look tacky and they limit design options.

    Absolutely did not think you were joking about the dippers. I did have this same wire shelf system fall off the wall and I vowed I would never install them again but you did it better than I did. Also clear plastic mats on top of the shelves will help smaller things from falling over because of, or down between, the spaces in the wire structure.

    This video was great! Wish I saw it before I installed this same system in my closet haha. I also thought it would be "ugly" but to be honest, once you put stuff on the shelves and hang stuff on the rods, you can barely see the wire racks anyway! Way worth sacrificing "style" for functionality.

    I use this setup as well but I replace the wire shelf itself with a laminated white board so there's no gaps and it doesn't have that cheap/ugly look everyone worries about. Can get them for around the same price as wire shelves and is still adjustable.

    Very nice statement at the beginning of the video. Where I live, the Netherlands, ithere's no difference. So many people have an opinion about everything, even when they have no knowledge. Anyway, I like your video's, because watching them is relaxing. The big difference is that you live in a wooden house. Here in Holland nearly every house is made of stone. Keep up the good work and keep filming!

    Nice job on the shelves- just what i need for my closet. stock up on them diapers while they are still affordable. Gosh- I vaguely remember wearing the white cotton cloth diapers held together with two large safety pins on either side...early 70s....they were re-usable. Wonder if the "modern" parents could have handled washing out various viscosities of baby poop from the cotton diapers with their hands and lye soap. this was a daily chore. Thank goodness for disposable diapers.

    I dont know why people hate this stuff so much. You have so many ways to do a closet and there are so many accessories. And, they are in a closet. Maybe they arent 'pretty' but it is functional. Besides, Im not going to be showing my guests my closets.

  • @bnasty267
    @bnasty267 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's hard to beat those wire shelves for smaller closets for all the reasons you mentioned and also, the shelving hardware doesn't take up lots of space itself. I only tend to have issues with wire shelving when you hang/store too much weight on it. We have wire shelving in our large walk-in, and I've had to reenforce the upper clips and the support arms with backing plywood furring strips when (overloaded) bars crashed to the ground. Most of the supports used drywall anchors, so that didn't help.

    How do you ensure that the spaces within the wire shelf align with standards so the shelf brackets fit in the middle of the spaces? What happens if a wire within the shelf lands between the two slots of a standard? Do you just move the standard or do a dry-fit first? I hope I have clearly conveyed my question.

    Wire shelving is just one of those facts of life you have to live with. Yeah, there's nothing attractive about it, but it's cheap and effective and it's actually better than what we all grew up in previous generations. Besides, you can't see the shelving when you have all your stuff in the closet.

    I mean is wire shelving really that bad? I don’t think it is…I have it in every closet in my house and hey I’m glad it’s there because the alternative is way more expensive and I could only justify a fancy closet system in maybe a master bedroom, anyway. If your house isn’t a mansion who cares, wire shelving is good enough for my neighborhood!
