      which one did you get?

    • @PerfectRumble
      @PerfectRumble 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got a regular size Marella (not XL as I wanted it to be more compact; gotta refill more often though). Was also considering Brita Style which had a bit more modern design imho, but went for the Marella as it had a small cap for the filtered water whereas the Style model didn't.

    I agree whole heartedly. I only drink filtered water. Here in the UK chlorine and fluoride is added routinely to our water supply. Only by filtering the drinking water can you remove these and all the other heavy metals present.
    The taste and smell of filtered water is much better as well! Win win :)

    On the new plastic one you've bought it has two separate plastics for the water so it doesn't matter how much you fill it up because it's already been filtered

    I'm thinking of buying one of these. I've been told by my doc to drink lots of water (I keep having sudden low blood pressure) and I hate the taste of the tap water where I live now, it's very chlorine-ish. A water filter is called for. I'll need one that is easy to use and can hold at least 1.5 litres below the filter. Which would you recommend? The Elemaris or the Marella? Should I get the XL? I would prefer if it would go in the (small) fridge door. Thanks.

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      muskndusk if the filter is just for one. Yes, the smaller one that fits in a fridge door is perfect. These are great at removing the chlorine and its taste from the water. We only drink and cook with filtered water and feel much better for it.

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can filter as much as you want each month, the filters are not susceptible to use only time and the fact that once in use there is a time limit when the filters work and clean effectively.

    No - it should not leak. You have to make sure you get the two small lugs in place correctly and push very firmly (until it clicks) down the inside top water holding reservoir area.

    do you just rinse the jug out 3 times before use or do you have to leave the water sitting a while each time?

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +CeeDiamondUK It is just to rinse water through the catridge.
      So once its run through, you can pour it away.

  • @justme7920
    @justme7920 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The filter doesn’t go all the way down, a few millimeters remain between bottom of filter and plastic bottom of the jug insert. Water collects there, is this normal?

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the filtered water actually goes through the filter and then up inside an internal funnel within the filter and then down into the reservoir below.

  • @TiagoEspinha
    @TiagoEspinha 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question for you: do they also have this deal where you live that you get 1 jug + 12 capsules for the same price as the 12 capsules? I just got myself one of these jugs and I got this deal... which means I can get a new jug for free every year if they keep this up.

  • @TomStrong
    @TomStrong  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is the only issue if you overfill the jugs. That water moves freely both ways between the 'drinking chamber' and the 'filter' chamber. They are both designed to limit this, but if the user overfills them; then it becomes possible.

  • @TomStrong
    @TomStrong  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    What you are telling me is slightly different to Brita in Europe. Here the cartridges last only 1 month. There is a 30 day countdown timer and after that you have to replace the cartridge.
    The reason you need to change them after 30 days and give your unit a good wash is that over time there is also a risk that microorganisms could start to grow or flourish in the water cartridge. To completely avoid that risk, changing it and washing the unit is necessary periodically.

  • @TomStrong
    @TomStrong  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Certainly you need to make sure that the water is not 'sitting' in the filter.
    But my main gripe if I had one was the difference between the handles. One superb. One 'awkward' for such a heavy weight.

  • @ChazWyvern
    @ChazWyvern 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a question we recently purchased a Marella I am a little concerned as the inner jug where the filter sits has a very small build of water in it? is this normal and should I be concerned?

  • @sugarlessrealness
    @sugarlessrealness 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just ordered other way around - had Marella and now want to try the Elemaris. But I don’t get how the water can be filled? Marella had the entry you can open but the Elemaris this thing is not opening and staying open when I want to fill it with water. How do I fill it? Open all container all the time?

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lid has a ‘stays shut trap door’ so you just pour water into the middle and that gets pushed down by the water you are adding and when you stop the water, the trap door shuts itself.
      you only take the lid off when washing and replacing the filter.

  • @TomStrong
    @TomStrong  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am not exactly sure where you mean. If you are referring to the space under the filter. Then this 'pool' is part of the design. The important thing to remember is to strip down and give the whole unit a thorough wash every month.

  • @TomStrong
    @TomStrong  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The XL is not designed to fit in fridge doors. So unless you have a very large 'American Styled' Fridge - I would say no. When we wanted cold water and used these we just placed it on a shelf. (We had one tall one for stand up bottle etc.
    Brita do make a full range that are designed to fit in a fridge door. (Same width as a Milk Carton)

  • @TomStrong
    @TomStrong  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That doesn't sound right. It should be a slow and steady trickle..
    I would try removing the filter - check that the edges are not damaged at all and then re-insert until it clicks down firmly and won't go down anymore.. If the edge is damaged at all - I would change the filter.
    Hope that helps.

      The XL wont fit in a regular door. If you have one of the larger American Style fridges, it might... But when I did want to keep our Brita XL in the fridge, I poped it on a shelf.

    Brita do not make any claim as to the acidity or alkalinity of the water after filtration.
    It all depends on the original water and what was in it that the Brita filter can then filter out.
    E.g - It filters out many heavy metals such as Magnesium. This could then reduce the Alkalinity of water.
    You need to look at the water you have in your area / taps and look at what Brita can filter out. And buy some pH paper testers. Far easier to measure pH than to try to estimate or calculate any change!

  • @TomStrong
    @TomStrong  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Drat! Just went to double check on the Brita site.. You are right sir! Do not remove Fluoride. I will need to look into that some more. and to confirm, the MAXTRA ones you can buy in the UK only last 30 days...

    I really want to buy water jugs. Just a question, does it filter bacteria and stuff? does it remove maybe metals or rust from the pipe?

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** hello, Brita, like many 'home' filter systems are for just that. Turning your tap drinking water into better drinking water by filtering out heavy metals and particulates. But it will not filter out bacteria. for that you would need an entirely different type of system. Either Chemical (iodine etc) or UV lights etc.
      If you believe you have Bacteria in your water. You must treat the water before putting it through your Brita.
      As an example. Boil it. Treat it with iodine tablets (or similar) and then when cool, filter it.
      But this is not an 'emergency' or 'camping' water purification system. For that you need to look elsewhere.
      (Note - most water companies will add chlorine or something similar to keep bacteria levels under control. All depends on your country and water supplier.)

  • @jbooks888
    @jbooks888 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The instruction manual says to replace the filter every 2 months, but also says the filter will do 150 litres of water. If you don;t use the 150 litres in two months, why should you replace it? And if it's ok to keep it longer than 2 months, then the timer unit is a useless gimmick.

    Something is wrong with my newly purchased Marbella. First of all, the water is flowing straight thorugh the Maxtra cartridge. Second, it says I'm supposed to hold the start button for 6 secons until the displays shows "OK", which it never does. Please help.

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try two things:
      1). Remove the cartridge and make sure that the top white upper lip rim is not folded over or damaged. If it is; alas you will need a new one. If not, when you re-insert it, push it much more firmly down into the socket resess until it 'clunks' into place and really will not go down any more.
      2). When you press the Start Button. Watch the display and press it, not for 6 seconds, but until the display is fully shaded in and when at 100% then release the button. (You may need to play with that once or twice more with SLIGHTLY longer or shorter pauses once you see the 100% fill in, but you will get it soon enough.
      I hope that helps.

    • @Vilagunro
      @Vilagunro 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom Strong Reviews
      Thank you Tom for your answer!
      I'm still a bit confused though over the fact that the water flows so relativly quick through the cartridge, I was expecting it to take longer (or maybe it's just my water not beeing that hard) and that the hole process of filtering perhaps would make some sounds e tc.
      I've tried what you said with the pressing of the start button, it still doesn't show "OK", but I guess that's really not that important.
      Anyways, I have ran water from the marella through my steam water destiller and I notice less gunk on the bottom of the destiller, and slightly better taste, so I guess it's working after all, but I find it hard to tell the difference, taste wise, from normal tap water and tap water run through the Marella.

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regarding the count down - yup, thats it! As long as the 4 boxes are filled in and you get unto 100% you are good.
      Regarding the filtering - The water should not 'fall through' but yes - it flows through at a steady trickle.
      Taste is not the main reason I filter. I filter to remove all the heavy metals and chemicals.
      Have you as an example notice a reduced 'chlorine' smell ? Just get a big glass of freshly filtered water and a big glass of fresh tap water and smell them both. Where I live there is a noticeable reduction in smell.

    Hello. I bought the Marcella XL about 7 weeks ago and couldn’t be happier with it. However the new cartridges I bought, Maxtra, are completely different to the first one that came with the jug, which didn’t have the ring pull thing on the top. It had two press in things that needed to be pressed in to remove it. With the original one the water filtered through very slowly, but it seems much quicker with this new Maxtra. I thought I had bought the wrong cartridge, but when I looked on the Brita website there isn’t one like the one I got with the jug.
    Do I have the wrong cartridge?

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Britt have changed the filter tech recently and with that the shape of the cartridge top.
      As you say, away from ring pull, now two side finger grip spaces.
      As per Brita web site:

      Afeef Mirza That means that I won't be able to use the full 'filtered' capacity as advertised?

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Afeef Mirza I personally do not like the idea of having the water level so high that there is water 'sitting' in the filter all the time. I find you can have about one full and a half of water and it comes just under where the top of the filter entry and exit pipe sits. You get plenty of water. Honestly it gets very heavy once you have more than just one full fill inside.

    I don't understand a point. Filter lifespan is measured by weeks. How can this be possible. I think the lifespan is related to liters filtered.

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. It really is a timer. Overtime the risk is that the filter is no longer effective. (It is also a matter of freshness in that if left unchanged and unwashed that there is a risk of microbial build up)

    is this jug water filter turn to alkaline water?

  • @tassie7325
    @tassie7325 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    We have only just got a (latest model) Brita Water Filter Jug. I know that the instructions are a little vague but but I think that your explanation (concerns) about the water level are unfounded.
    It wouldn't matter if the water level is above the filter because all of the water that is pored out of the spout must have first passed through the filter (when used properly), as you stated..
    As for the notion that it may be "crazy on the cartridge", as far as I can see the cartridge simply absorbs the trace elements from the water. It doesn't matter how many times the water goes through the cartridge, it can only absorb the elements that exist.

    In your video, if at the end you filled the unfiltered water reservoir again, would it have remained full until you poured out some of the filtered water, or would it have risen the level of filtered water?
    What is the maximum amount of filtered water this can hold?

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do try to explain. this in my video, As the filter sits on a spike that all water filters through, when you overfill the jug you have backwash with water going both ways through the filter.
      personally I don’t like the water sitting in the filter so I don’t overfill.

    @SyedElCid Certainly there had been times when we had left a cartridge in for more than 1 month. Maybe 5 to 6 weeks maximum. After this it will not taste as good and you have to be mindful that the exchange is also so that you deep clean the whole unit. To keep the costs down, buy the 6 / 10 / 12 packs of cartridges when they are on offer.

      ***** (updated) the rate of pour once the water is filtered can be as fast as the opening allows. However, the filter takes time to filter the water. Make sure it is clicked down firmly. Make sure when you change a filter you do the shake and rinse through before drinking to make sure the insides are ready to perform a full filter.

  • @TomStrong
    @TomStrong  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have never had that happen with a Brita filter... I suggest you remove the current cartridge, give the unit a deep clean & pop a brand new brita cartridge in.

    Hey, does this work for softening the hard water I thought it will be good for my hair? 💕

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The BRITA water filter cartridge only partially removes the hardness from drinking water. This part is temporary hardness, which causes scale deposits during cooking. It does not remove all of the minerals from the water.

    Hi Tom, I almost bought the Elamaris but after seeing your view I ordered the Marella instead. Your video was incredibly useful for our family :o)
    I have recently been suffering sickness when drinking tap water (possible sensitivity to bacteria or metal contaminants) and I finallly considered ordering a water filter jug. Buying bottled water is both expensive and inconvenient at the best of times. I can't wait to get it.
    What were your reasons for using a water filter jug?

    You should have done a PH test before and after on the jug just to see if its better...

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Fiezy Tomas interesting point, however, both these jugs use the same Brita Maxtra filter technology. With the same flow rate and in principle same weight of water falling the same height.
      I would not expect There to be any difference in the outcome nor quality of the water/s.

      Alas not the case. Many Water Authorities ADD Flouride into drinking water.
      I am not willing to consume added Flouride and hence filter it out using my BIBO water filtration system. (I also avoid Flouride in toothpaste)

    I use the Brita Jug not for better tasting water, but because it reduces heavy metals. I was born with a genetic illness, in which I retain copper. It depends on what you want the filter for

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. We all need to ingest less heavy metals, mercury etc.
      Oddly I need to re-add both Magnesium (citrate) and (chelated) Copper to my diet / vitamins to maintain good heart rhythm.

    FFS How do you remove the brita meter??????????

    • @TomStrong
      @TomStrong  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      AAD MBP It is really well stuck in there. There is no 'user changeable' battery option either.
      If you do manage to pry it out (Very small thin screwdrivers etc) then you will need to get a new timer from eBay or elsewhere. Also worth going to Brita web site. They sell / replace salty lids...
      I find the batteries last circa 5 years.

  • @TomStrong
    @TomStrong  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can't!
    You need to wash the lid by hand...
    However - I put them in our dishwasher & all still works!
