I loved the Tengen version of Ms. Pac-Man because you can play the game in a variety of different ways. In other words, you can play the original arcade mazes, strange mazes, mini mazes, big mazes, you can play as both Ms. Pac-Man and Mr. Pac-Man (The original Pac-Man), you can play with or without the Pac-Booster option and so much more. Back when I had a Sega Genesis and a copy of this classic Genesis version masterpiece, my mother and I would play in 2-player mode for days on end. She would play as Ms. Pac-Man and I would play as Pac-Man and we would gobble up all the dots, fruits and ghosts for days on end.
If anyone want to Play Pac-Man on the Genesis get the game Pac-man 2 the new adventures then when you get to the main menu go to the password screen and enter PCMN0RG and it will take you to the original Pac-Man game. For the Super Nintendo version enter PCMNDPW.
The local pizza parlor near where I live has a Ms Pac Man stand up arcade, spent 1 dollar, had a blast. Pizza, beer, and Ms Pac Man is an amazing combo
Great game! in the early to mid 90's when the old seaside arcades were closing down they couldn't give these old cabinets away! it would have been great to have had a white van and the foresight to gather them all up at that time!
Mark, I swear you and I are one-in-the-same haha... Ms. Pac-Man is my favorite game of all time I think, Mario Bros. a close 2nd. There's nothing like it... and there never will be again. When you can just pick up a game like this... 35 years later, have it still be JUST as fun, and yet... we don't have to commit the kind of time we do to "modern" games.... I dunno. These arcade originals are priceless and brilliant and classy!
Everything said in this review is 100% spot on truth. I'm tweeting it. At 01:24 I totally remember that. The 90s had some good things (music, movies, entertainment) but that decade also tried to screw with everything original too much. "We need this to be something new, something fresh!" .. "Um, no you don't leave it alone.." The 90s were the LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT US decade where cynicism and narcissism exploded. It was also the decade where unoriginality started to take shape around the mid 90s.
One improvement that I always loved about Ms. Pac-man over the original is being able to hear the duration of the power pellets. In the original, you would have no idea how many times when I'm about to eat a ghost, and the second Pac-Man's mouth chomps at it, the effect wears off. Sure they blink, but the sound speeds up and really assists in eating ghosts in the amount of time you are given. It's all so much more efficient.
CGR got me back into my childhood memories. I've never been so excited the last couple years to collect all the old games from my childhood and pull out all my systems. There is just something about classic retro games. They are bloody charming.
When I was like 5 or 6, my dad and I played Ms. Pac-Man on the Sega Genesis almost every single night. It's where my obsession for Pac-Man kicked in lol.
In my opinion, the coolest part of this version is the two player simultaneous co-op. It's a shame he didn't get to it in this video, though I suppose I understand that he probably didn't have the time to look for someone to play it with. Still think it would have been worth a mention.
I think this is the first version of Ms. Pacman I ever played. I rented it one weekend as a kid. I had PacMan for my Game Gear, and this game just blew me away.
I love this channel and this video so much! I have just got a NES and i love your NES videos. Do you know if you can get Pac Man on NES? That might be a n00b question lol. Thanks again for the video. Curtis
This was actually one of my first games. The speed boost was an available option on the arcade machines (which is why they included it on this game). It truly is the best console release of Ms. Pac-Man. You should try the "Arrangements" found in the Namco Museum games. Pac-Mania & Pac-Attack are also amazing games!
my mom loves this version. i remember her playing it when i was little, and i remember her playing just the other day...she loves it....along with mario brothers the original
Mark, you NEED to go to MAGFest some day. They have free arcade games, usually including a Ms. Pac-Man table machine. You'd have to fight me for it, tho =P
We have a Ms. Pac Man machine at our local laundromat! It's great to be able to play them on the original machines, but this Genesis version seems like a good home port. I'll check it out.
Mark, to make the 6 button arcade stick (and controllers) work with this game, hold down the mode button as it starts up. This and a few other games have a problem with 6 button controllers
I have a complete copy of this one, and the cartridge-only on SNES. Ms. Pac-Man is good for friendly competition. This version even has cooperative mode. I think this is one of the games that if you try to play with the 6-button gamepad, you have to hold the "Mode" button before powering the system on.
I got it yesterday at a store called 'The Exchange," that sells games ranging from newer consoles (Wii, 360) to the very old consoles (Genesis, and even TurboGrafx 16).
I was wondering when Mark was going to review this version of Ms.PacMan I figured he'd really like it, and whattayaknow, he does. I might have to put this in my buddy's genesis later... too bad I only have RF out!
@Catlin11 How old are you? This game has been around and has stood the test of time for 30 years! If you weren't in the arcades playing this game back in the 80's, then you were sleeping under a rock.
I know what you're talking about, in reference to the cocktail arcade games. I got an original space invaders arcade game cocktail table from a rummage sale for $10. Still works.
To play with a 6 button controller, you have to hold down the mode button as you power up the game, then release it after the "Licenced by Sega Enterprise, blah blah blah" screen is gone Great review btw!
great review Mark. i know you feel emulators to be a bit of a sin, However, i must admit- short of having the actual ms. pac-man machine in my home... i emulate the original ms pac man arcade game with macMame, and use a 'stelladaptor' so i can control the game with an original atari 2600 joystick. next step would be building a MAME cabinet conversion of course, for the actual arcade feel. great video anyways, thanks for posting.
Come on guys. Who cares if you make a first comment. If you are going to do so, then make the comment worth reading! I have not played this game. I do have Ms. Pac-Man on Namco Museum. The games stay true to the arcade versions. I have played a stand up arcade of Ms. Pac-Man. I like the fast paced game play in the original. Great review Mark.
Mark, there's an issue with the 6-button controllers in this game. It's a known issue with this and some other games. Unless you're using the 6-button Arcade Power Stick, your best bet is to hold down the controller's "MODE" button as you turn the system on. If you have aforementioned joystick, switch the stick to 3-button mode and you're good to go.
i remember playing the late 90s DOS version of pacman and i played itj up to the point of addiction. I remember i could actually loop through all 10 levels 4 times without dying once and it was much more complicated since it included extra lives and bombs too.
This was a nice Mrs Pacman port. Even if it wasn't Arcade code. They rebuilt the game from the ground up. It was well made though and it played like it's Arcade counterpart. So it's nice, but if you're looking for an Arcade replica. You won't find it here.
got it and love it and makes me feel like a kid again was one of my favorites back in the day also note to self ad soda-beer can holder to PC mame just aint that right feel yet
Speaking of Pac-man Jr.(or Jr. Pac-man, as Midway seemed to prefer calling it), will you ever do a review of its Atari 2600 port? I actually own a copy of it, and it's really quite good, though much harder than the 2600 version of Ms. Pac-man. A pity Namco doesn't recognize it as an official Pac-man game, though.
I loved Ms. Pac Man back in the day, and got very good at it (close to 300,000 on a normal speed machine at my peak). However, the two best Pac Man games, in my opinion, are the two most under-represented ones, namely Pac Man Jr. and Super Pac Man. Atari 2600 is about the only console with Pac Man Jr. and Super Pac Man is FINALLY out on XBox 360, but the standard 360 controller blows for any Pac Man style game. Thank God for MAME at least.
Swear me too

You can say that again.
I just got this game today for my sega genesis and I love it!!!
Drummergamer45 Lol I just bought my copy today as well :D
I still play mine
Best version of Ms. Pac-Man there is. I used to play through this in co-op mode with my mom all the time as a kid. Good times!
Some may complain about the graphical changes, but IMO this is the best looking version, even better than the coin op
The local pizza parlor near where I live has a Ms Pac Man stand up arcade, spent 1 dollar, had a blast. Pizza, beer, and Ms Pac Man is an amazing combo
"Everybody thought Pac-man jr was Pac-mans son"
Best comment I have heard all day.
Great game! in the early to mid 90's when the old seaside arcades were closing down they couldn't give these old cabinets away! it would have been great to have had a white van and the foresight to gather them all up at that time!

I am becoming a huge fan of clasic game room, ton of vids a week and very honest reviews, that is what will keep me a subscriber. Thank you.
You think the turbo option is strange? I grew up with fast Ms Pacman. I cannot play the slow version for the life of me.
Same here. For the longest time I thought it was the standard feature. Then I saw one with slow speed and it didn't feel right.
Yeah the cabinet at my daycare had a dipswitch for fast mode
Will I ever tire of Mark's reviews? Probably not. It's as if his voice is charmed so that hearing it is outrageously addictive.
Everything said in this review is 100% spot on truth. I'm tweeting it. At 01:24 I totally remember that. I love that you can google "Pac Man" and play Pac Man right on your screen instantly.
Google created that as part of pac-man's 30th anniversary

2:00 Pac-man World was awesome!
Best version ever!
Hold down the mode button on the 6 button controller when you turn the console on and it will work.
Maybe I should get this one : )
It looks pretty cool for a port
When I was like 5 or 6, my dad and I played Ms. Pac-Man on the Sega Genesis almost every single night. It's where my obsession for Pac-Man kicked in lol.

Setting turbo always on was the only way I played this on the Genesis! Much closer to the speed I remember from the arcades.
I saw the review. 5 minutes later, ordered the game.... 0 regret XD
I love you. Your comment made my day. xD
Tony Vane same here, even 3 years later I ordered the game after seeing this
My copy doesn't have the Sega label on it. Is it an earlier version?
I love this channel and this video so much!
I have just got a NES and i love your NES videos.
Do you know if you can get Pac Man on NES? That might be a n00b question lol.
Thanks again for the video.
Curtis
I just got this game for Christmas along with a Retron 3 and a few more old games. Hell of a Christmas.
Would just like to let Classic Game Room know, I know the cocktail experience that Mark is talking about. It is truly beyond cool.
Played this at the chinese place by my house when I was a kid. Great machine. I should go back to the neighborhood and see if they still got it.
my mom loves this version. i remember her playing it when i was little, and i remember her playing just the other day...she loves it....along with mario brothers the original
Mark, you NEED to go to MAGFest some day. They have free arcade games, usually including a Ms. Pac-Man table machine. You'd have to fight me for it, tho =P
What's that hammering sound towards the end?
We have a Ms. Pac Man machine at our local laundromat! It's great to be able to play them on the original machines, but this Genesis version seems like a good home port. I'll check it out.
Does she speed up when not chewing? She tends to slow down when chewing on the pellets. Your thoughts?
one of the games i got when i got my genesis. such a fun game! :)
i do remember the good old flat top arcade machine my friend use to have one lol so much fun
i really love this game. is there a way to play as pacman in one player though?
absolutely love this for the Genesis!
Mark, to make the 6 button arcade stick (and controllers) work with this game, hold down the mode button as it starts up. This and a few other games have a problem with 6 button controllers
Frogger 3D is actually good IMO, and i enjoyed Swampys revenge.
I had this version as a kid.
this games is on the top 5 of the best games ever!!!!!!!!!! i love this game!!
Yes! My local bowling alley has a sit down Pac Man arcade machine =D
I remember playing this version of ms. pac-man when I was young, that and what I think was gunstar heroes
I have never seen an original arcade machine with just MS PAC MAN on it. I always see the MS PAC MAN/Galaga reunion Machines.
This is the most incredible port of Ms. Pac Man ever.
You're damn good at this!
I have a complete copy of this one, and the cartridge-only on SNES. Ms. Pac-Man is good for friendly competition. This version even has cooperative mode.
I think this is one of the games that if you try to play with the 6-button gamepad, you have to hold the "Mode" button before powering the system on.

I am going to check this out. Thank you for the info.
nice review, this should be in hd
I've actually seen a resurgence in those cocktail arcade machines at pubs and clubs in recent years.
my version wont let me go in certain directions. is that with all Ms. pac man games or just my copy.
Ms. Pac-Man + Sega Genesis? Well, except the arcade, this must be Mr. Mark's favorite game!
This is a great game, i love playing it on my ipod touch.
I was wondering when Mark was going to review this version of Ms.PacMan I figured he'd really like it, and whattayaknow, he does.
I might have to put this in my buddy's genesis later... too bad I only have RF out!
@Catlin11

I still have this game :D
It would be so nice to see these mazes on Xbox live
Great sound effects... Like the arcade version.
did u make to the kill screen
i love the table version too i tried it once at a diner when i was 7
The.Sega.Genesis.clutch.is.awesome.with.this.Plays.like.arcade.
I bought this game along with a sega genesis model 1
cool story, broly
'Dude in a dark room popping pills, I can relate'. Hilarious, that is classic. :D

I think his reviews are all entertaining, but hey,to each his own.
I fucking loved this game.
Mark what about geometry wars HD? that game clearly makes a great use of 3d effects on the back ground.
how can i download youtube videos and watch them in HD ?
i remember playing the late 90s DOS version of pacman and i played itj up to the point of addiction. I remember i could actually loop through all 10 levels 4 times without dying once and it was much more complicated since it included extra lives and bombs too.

is that one any good? becasue my local game store has it for a buck.
i remember seeing a galica Ms Pacman arcade machine at the movies theaters here
got it and love it and makes me feel like a kid again
was one of my favorites back in the day also
note to self ad soda-beer can holder to PC
mame just aint that right feel yet
ahhh memories... the good old days when you could actually find an arcade cabinet : /
Love the sound the bouncing fruit makes
I used to have this game. I remember I got to like level 29 or something when I was 6.
I have no problems playing this with my 6 button sega joystick controller.....perhaps mark didn't switch it to 3 button mode???
But one has to remember to hold the Mode button upon powering up the Genesis, or that 6 button pad was a no go, same with Forgotten Worlds.
The 1998 version of Battlezone was one of those rare 3-D reboots/remakes that actually got everything right. Actually surpassing the original.
@GirafaCalorifer If you are talking about the video, it will be in a couple of minutes, when the video is done processing.
lol I dunno why, but I could watch someone play PacMan All day! xD
Speaking of Pac-man Jr.(or Jr. Pac-man, as Midway seemed to prefer calling it), will you ever do a review of its Atari 2600 port? I actually own a copy of it, and it's really quite good, though much harder than the 2600 version of Ms. Pac-man. A pity Namco doesn't recognize it as an official Pac-man game, though.
one of my friends has a Burger Time/Ms. Pac Man/Donkey Kong/Frogger/Galaga cocktail machine. best thing ever.
Mark, they sell the arcade machines on Ebay. You got $500-2,000?
@DiabloArcade Their is a switch on the back of the 6 button controller to change it too 3 button mode.
Did you know? It might fix that.
I loved Ms. Pac Man back in the day, and got very good at it (close to 300,000 on a normal speed machine at my peak). However, the two best Pac Man games, in my opinion, are the two most under-represented ones, namely Pac Man Jr. and Super Pac Man.

great review
yeah, co-op was the best!
i believe the snes\genesis version were ported after the excellent nes version. that's the one i used to play.
Pacman World 2 is great.
Can you do a review of MS. PAC MAN for the Sony PlayStation 1? That was my favorite MS. PAC MAN ever...
