shepherds herd sheep not cows lol so yeah sorry but you guys have been calling it the wrong name this whole time lol. like the other guy said shepherds pie minced lamb cottage pie minced beef
As a chef I know the difference most people it's not common knowledge but even as someone who grew up in Toronto a Sheppards pie here or anywhere in Canada means beef, but in the U.K it's quite different.
Had I of known that you were doing that challenge at Cattlemans, I would have come to watch you as I live just 300 yards away from there. Too much pie for me to eat though and well done! Great effort 👏
I really feel like we missed out on “cowboy pie” here in the states given that… here cottage-core has nothing to do with slaughtering meat, but rather cute pastels and dried flowers…. I’m also surprised the differces wasn’t continued since Christianity loves shepherds… 🤷♂️but yeah, we make shepherds pie with corn and beef with mash on top, just the three layers, anything else is boujee.
First off, congratulations. That being said, I’m sure you know how dangerous/deadly this was so I won’t carry on about it, aside to say that was scary towards the end and I’m happy you’re okay. 10 kilos is just insane, truly pushing the limits of the human body. It blows my mind how some people can push through the mental queues of eating way too much let alone the physical struggle, truly impressive.
@SecurePasta you don' call fries cooked potato sliced and fried in oil, and you definitely do not call lasagne, beef, tomatoes, bechemel sauce with pasta and herbs... I'm bored. It's a recipe.
Wow!!!!! Joel you killed this dude, I didn't think you were going to be able to finish that 2nd pan. You're going to be punishing the porcelain for days
If I was making my version, the mince wouldn't have so much gravy - I'd use corn starch to thicken it up before adding the mash on top and then cooking in the oven. A bit drier hits the spot perfectly.
Google says “the term cottage pie originated in England in the 18th Century to refer to a peasant food dish. It was a meal usually eaten by poorer people living in small cottages because the ingredients were affordable. Over time, it became more popular and was crowned cottage pie.” Both are awesome, very tasty!
Joel it was a amazing experience to have you at Forgotten Angels again. 2nd time meeting you and I loved it even more. This challenge puts you in a different atmosphere of greatness. 🏆
Does fisherman's pie have chicken in it? Since every seems to be so confused by the difference between beef and lamb, we might as well confuse fish pie!
Joel you’ve done phenomenally! It’d be great to see Leah, Beard, Randy, & Katina accomplish the same thing as you! I believe all of them can achieve this along with Max vs Food.
Welcome again to Paignton , one of my boy’s favourite meals is cottage pie . I make mine slightly different but I always serve with gravy. Honestly well done as cottage pie is super filling !
I respect you Joel. I respect you also say ,do not do what I do. This is training. This is stretching your stomach as many 600 pound people can. But it is not healthy and Joel, as an educated nutritionist can tell you the same. I weighed 400 pounds for various reasons in my youth. I have been a healthy 150 for many years but I do see the effort. The work. It takes a beast to eat that much and maintain their weight. It is not for the sedentary. Much respect Joel !!
Shepherds Pie is made with lamb and only lamb hence 'Shepherd' Cottage Pie is beef. Not many people would put brown sauce on it. In the UK you don't need to show kids to eat veggies. Most kids happily eat vegetables
I was always told the shepherd's pie is made with sheep or goat because shepherd's shepherd sheep or goats. Cottage pie could be made with any animal meat other than lamb, goat. That cottage pie has more gravy than I've ever seen.
I've seen it all now. He finished 2 x 10kg cottage pies plus sides and bread in just over half the time allowed for 1. Honestly, how can anyone put that volume of food away? Gobsmacked!
It was 10kg total, each one was 5kg. It was confusing because he mixed in pounds at one point, he either said one was 10 pounds or it was all together 20 pounds at one point. If you go back to the beginning he puts on screen that each is 5kg. That’s still incredible and getting on with the upper limits, of course some have done more but it gets dangerous/deadly even under 10kg.
Wow wow wow, totaly amazing. 🎉 I must say I was gritting me teeth, I felt your pain and was thinking you was going throw up at the table 🙈 That was rough but again totaly amazing 👏 🤩 Have you ever been sick at the table during a challenge? I know you said "you've never crapped your pants" but have come very close a few times🙈 You must have to stay at the restaurant for quite a while after? I couldn't imagine trying to drive home immediately after all that 🙈🫣
That’s efin incredible!!!! I grew up with shepherds pie not cottage pie and shepherds pie is a wonderful comfort food but you totally killed this!!! Hat’s off literally to you my friend ❤
I'd look like Joel at the 40min mark after eating two regular portions of that, chewing and chewing but your body refusing to swallow. Insane victory Joel well done.
Good job Joe. I was clapping and rooting for you man. You be putting away some food. They should be paying you $1000 per episode per challenge. You deserve it the way you put away food OMG.
How have I only just come across this guy. Just watching this is insane. Shorely that's got to be a record . New subscriber. I'm from the UK and just eating that much English mustard is a challenge in it self 😂... smashed it.
Damn. Keep the two tins and recreate the meal in the bathroom 😂. Grats on 20! That's 4x the scientific capacity lol. Ur the man! I thought the 10-12 lb roast was crazy
I’ve watched you eat some insane foods from all over the world & can’t help but find it hilarious that your biggest ever challenge what is in the uk & something as British as cottage pie 🤣
That is just absolutely unbelievable. Never ever ever ever seen anything like that if I’m correct would I say that would be 24 portions, large portions? Well done
I’m in so Canada and that almost exactly how I make my shepherds pie:) I add some mushroom soup and Montreal steak spice to my gravy. Much less gravy and more potatoes. Love your videos:)
I am Canadian, if that matters? LOL But growing up my mom would make Sheppard's pie out of leftovers. Beef, Lamb, Pork, Venison and what ever vegetable was leftover in the fridge. Sheppard's pie was a way to use up leftovers and feed a large family, Every one was different and delicious ...I am a chef now and I still use my moms recipes.
Those potatoes hit like a freight train. Tapatio hot sauce is a great taste bud changer. Thank you by the way of helping me know the logic of name and history of the two different pies. Sounds like you were the one spoken of in a book titled "Heading For The Outhouse" by Willy Makeit and Betty Dont. God's blessings
You could have a Star Trek nickname because you go boldly where no man has gone before. You are the human version of Nibbler from Futurama. Incredible and fascinating to watch.

Competitive eating should be an Olympic event. Joel would take the gold 🥇
Sheppard's Pie, Cottage Pie, or a Sloppy Mess 🤣?
What do you call this dish? 🤔
Shepherds Pie is with lamb, Cottage Pie is with beef.
That's just how it is 👍🏻👌🏻
shepherds herd sheep not cows lol so yeah sorry but you guys have been calling it the wrong name this whole time lol. like the other guy said shepherds pie minced lamb cottage pie minced beef
I've always called it shepherds pie when it's supposed to be cottage pie and I will still call it that because I like the name better 🤣
That was a sloppy mess 😂
As a chef I know the difference most people it's not common knowledge but even as someone who grew up in Toronto a Sheppards pie here or anywhere in Canada means beef, but in the U.K it's quite different.
The difference between shepherds pie and cottage pie is that shepherds (sheep herders) is made with lamb wherreas the cottage pie is beef.
When you included the part about the shepherds pie an
When in doubt, just do what Joel did with the title lol. Beef pie/ Lamb pie.
I’ve never had actual shepherds pie but we always called it that anyway
Exactly both exist in uk shepherd's pie cottage pie they both look the same but not the same 😅😂
20LBS?! Brother how was this even physically possible???
Unreal...it's actually looks 20 lbs, too!
With tray included
this is totaly incredible. or maybe " insane " should be the right word
I believe Joel has eaten quite close to 20 pounds in the past
Joel's body weight before eating 81kg after eating 90kg😅
Dude.. You pushed yourself to the absolute limit there! Much respect for keeping it all together, that was mental.
He must be spending 3hrs In the Toilet 🚽😮😮😂😂
Had I of known that you were doing that challenge at Cattlemans, I would have come to watch you as I live just 300 yards away from there. Too much pie for me to eat though and well done! Great effort 👏
I've never seen Joel struggle like this! He still isn't human tho😅
He's so greedy it's unbelievable 😂😂😂
Watch the one where he’s full and then tries a Ruben sandwich challenge. He almost shits himself
I live in Canada but family roots are from the UK. If it's made with hamburg, it's Cottage Pie, if made with lamb, it's Shepherd's Pie
It's always been that way, just most people don't know the difference and call both ways Shepherd's Pie.
Shepherd's pie makes more sense. A Shepherd looks after sheep.
In the UK, shepherds pie is made with lamb.. cottage pie is made with beef.
❤ lol my whole life I’ve got it wrong ! Thanks man !
I would already be very uncomfortable with what he ate after 4 minutes.
Joel is a magician.
I'd like to actually see anyone else even try to attempt this challenge....yeah this for sure defies physiology...off the chain bro!!
my bp will burst my head if i ever did this much cholestrol rich adventure.
When I tuned in and saw the intro I legit thought: "wow Joel finally uploaded a challenge he knows he can't finish"... unreal.
Huge respect, Joel. That was really crazy. Love ya ♥
20 lbs is crazy work.
Be careful Joel
OMG 😳 WTF, that is insanity where does it all fit????? You truly are something else! Awesome, amazing !!!!!
Hey Joel wow looks so delicious! From Detroit Michigan
That was the most impressive challenge I've seen you do ever. Watched you for years.
Absolute Fkin MADMAN. I would take a hard stance on this being impossible if I didn't see you do it. Wild AF and a huge win.
First off, congratulations. That being said, I’m sure you know how dangerous/deadly this was so I won’t carry on about it, aside to say that was scary towards the end and I’m happy you’re okay. 10 kilos is just insane, truly pushing the limits of the human body. Sheppard's Pie has lamb mince, Cottage Pie has beef mince
Yes, in the UK...NOT The USA! Thanks for the info.
@@BuffaloNickel9 It should be called what it is. You don't call a chicken burger a beer burger.
@@BuffaloNickel9 no that is everywhere.... it's not different in the US
Yip! 😊
@SecurePasta you don' call fries cooked potato sliced and fried in oil, and you definitely do not call lasagne, beef, tomatoes, bechemel sauce with pasta and herbs... I'm bored.
It's a recipe.
So close to 1 million! Been here since 70k! Congrats Joel, you deserve it! I can't believe you just ate all that! Insane!
It looks tinned
Same in Ireland… Shepards pie has Lamb in it. (Shepherd’s look after lambs not cows!) and cottage pies have beef in them. Good video
Obviously. Everybody knows cows live in Cottages
Google says “the term cottage pie originated in England in the 18th Century to refer to a peasant food dish. Joel….you’re a competitive eating LEGEND!!!! Amazing job!!!!! 💯
It looks amazing! But two of those trays could feed for families at least. Good on ya Joel!
I always thought cottage and shepherds pie were different
The man has the vocabulary limit of a 7 year old.
Fisherman's pie is also satisfying 😌
Does fisherman's pie have chicken in it?
Since every seems to be so confused by the difference between beef and lamb, we might as well confuse fish pie!
@cwa😂rd1811
That was crazy! Those carrots looked so good!
From one Canadian to another, you did amazing! The English mustard looked good too. 👍
I respect you Joel. I respect you also say ,do not do what I do. This is training. This is stretching your stomach as many 600 pound people can. I was always told the shepherd's pie is made with sheep or goat because shepherd's shepherd sheep or goats. Cottage pie could be made with any animal meat other than lamb, goat. That cottage pie has more gravy than I've ever seen.
JUST...! HOW>>>!?!? I've had casseroles and things this size and one of those would last me almost a week! WOW! 🤯🤯🤯🤯
I've seen it all now. He finished 2 x 10kg cottage pies plus sides and bread in just over half the time allowed for 1. Honestly, how can anyone put that volume of food away? Gobsmacked!

Splashing some Worcestershire sauce on cottage pie is actually fire. Brown sauce with it seems slightly odd. That’s more of a breakfast condiment.
I’ve been saying it for years this man has no limit lol 😂
Insane amount of food your ability to eat that much is truly remarkable. Love your content keep it coming ❤😊❤
Absolutely incredible my friend
Just finished watching you doing this, I don't know how you do it but you always manage to do it...congrats Joel

In Joel style: No way I will finish, 10 minutes later, I need dessert.
Looks amazing! I'd try that place. Not a contest, just the food. Thanks for the video Joel.
I make Shepherds Pie, but I make it with left over Roast Beef instead of ground or minced beef. Family favorite after a Sunday Roast dinner. 😊
Wow!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Massive accomplishment! Such a big challenge!! You're a beast!
Damn. Keep the two tins and recreate the meal in the bathroom 😂. Grats on 20! That's 4x the scientific capacity lol. Ur the man! I thought the 10-12 lb roast was crazy

Hi Joel I live in N.IRELAND, I love brown sauce on my cottage pie, and a tip to get rid in your tummy is to rub and pat your tummy it works a treat x
You cleared the first one so quickly you made it look easy
Difference between cottage pie and shepherds pie is tge meat..lamb and beef, love your vids keep grinding love uou.
Ik u got this Joel
I’ve never seen Sheppards pie so soupy
this isn't a good example they might make it big but not good lol, its supposed to have gravy through it but no where near this much
...and with ww2 rations of mashed potato on top.
Oh my God Joel that's so crazy I just had shepherds pie, a.k.a. cottage pie for leftovers today.
